Oh that's so great to hear! I have to say I really appreciate these people telling their stories in public. And not even telling their stories but letting us see so many private moments. It has to be hard to be so exposed like that. I hope that they are able to help a lot of people.

When it shows patients in the lobby, I wonder if any of them will be on the show.

No, it doesn't seem like anyone works. Even in tonight's episode no one worked. I don't understand how they lived off of fast food if no one works.

I love the show (My 600 Pound Life) -- it's one of the reasons I'm having surgery now -- I never want to let it get HALF that bad!
The Penny episode really p*#sed me off. That woman was living in a magical land far, far away from reality. I'm sure the doctor does the complete psych evals, etc., before the surgery, but from what I understand, this doctor is one of the few who will operate on someone of that size because of the risks. A couple of things that really chapped my hide:
    1) When the paramedics came to get her to take her for a follow-up visit (because she couldn't get in a car) she told one of them she thought she had lost about 230 pounds. How far out of this world are you if you think you lost over 200 when in reality you haven't lost a pound. How out of touch with reality are you???
    2) When she made the comment about being there more for her son than working mothers, I almost threw the remote through the TV. I've been a working mom to 3 kids for 23 years now and I've been there for my kids all that time. Attending school events and conferences, standing through hundreds of hours of sports events, attending band concerts and football games. How can she think she's being a great mom to her son when she can't get up and fix him a meal or attend his kindergarten graduation???
    3) Towards the end of the show, she made a comment that she is sure her son will be proud of how hard she's worked. Get real -- kids are basically self-centered and worry about how everything affects them personally. He'll get to the point that he will be completely embarrassed by his mother's size and how bedridden she is.
Anyway -- it's OBVIOUS I put too much emotional energy into this particular episode and need to focus on some real, important things in life. But, at least ranting about it burned a few calories with my fingers typing so fast and furious!!!

Since surgery on January 9th, I have lost 53 lbs. When I brush my hair after a shower, it looks like I lost enough hair to make a toupee. I keep forgetting to take my Vitamins, which I am trying to work on. But my clothes are falling off of me and I haven't felt so good about myself in decades. I might even buy a new outfit and treat myself to a day of getting my hair and nails done for my 10th wedding anniversary.

I know a chicken breast should be about a deck of cards or the palm of your hand for 3 oz . cheese should be the size of a domino for 1oz. 1/2 cup ice cream is the size of an ice cream scoop. 1 cup is the size of a tennis ball.
here is a link to a guide that should help you with portion sizes. I found i have to do the tedious job of measuring things out to before i eat them to make sure I get a pretty close to accurate count of calories. I use the app "MyFitnessPal" on my phone to help keep track of calories and Protein and it is helping.

    Good luck!!

Doing It 4 Them reacted to Escape_Pod in Does anyone eat pizza?
I'm going to go against the grain here and put a big huge question mark on the pizza. Yes, lots of folks find success with the "everything in moderation" approach, and if you're one of them, you have my admiration, and more than a bit of envy. I spent over a year in a losing battle with the scale, seeing my old binge eating habits take over my life again trying to convince myself I could eat certain foods in moderation. Turns out, I was lying to myself. chocolate and sugary carbs are my kryptonite. Once I start eating them, I crave them constantly. As in, bags of chocolate hidden in my desk drawer, sneaking downstairs after my husband's gone to bed to get my fix, polishing off a doughnut AND a sticky bun AND god knows what else for "breakfast", and gobbling sugar the rest of the day. It's awful, and it's humiliating, and I've spent the last 14 weeks losing 25 pounds of regain, and I've got a bit more to lose.
Now... do I eat pizza? Yes. Sometimes a healthier substitute (cauliflower crust, or on a low carb tortilla), sometimes the real honest to goodness thing. Can I have some, even too much, and then get right back on track the next day? Yes. So, pizza is something I can enjoy in moderation. Chocolate chip Cookies, not so much. For my "kryptonite" foods, I've found low-carb, sugar-free substitutes that I find enjoyable and satisfying, but that don't pull me down into a sugar spiral.
The only reason I'm waving this flag of warning is the way you described how you feel about pizza. I'm not suggesting you avoid it forever, but I AM suggesting that you be brutally honest with yourself about how you (and your body) handle pizza, or any food you can't imagine living without. Some foods honestly and truly are worth giving up for what you really want - a body you can live happily in, and the energy to do what you want with it.

So sad to see another great and funny guy die at such a young age because of complications and related issues from obesity. I lost my father by 54 because of obesity related issues too and it is so sad to see a talented life end before it is time..
We also lost Micky Rooney today.. I bet there is alot of joyful hugs and laughter in heaven today.

    NO NSAIDS/ SUG
I seen online that they recommend putting the no blind Ng tube on it. It's kind of hard getting everything on it lol. I'm not much of a jewelry person but I like this Bracelet. My only problem is my arm is skinny now and it slides up my arm. I haven't taken the time to try to take a link or 2 out.

I have much more energy! I can go without taking a nap throughout the whole day. I can walk a 2 mile trail without loosing breath and I can do 30 minutes on the elliptical without stopping. I can say that I have hit a stall but I know that my body mass is still shrinking. My wedding ring is falling off and a 18 inch chain sits in my cleavage now. lol. but I am so happy with my progress even with the complications that I have had. I have my 3 month check up today and I am down 67 pounds according to my scale. I am in a 16-18 pant from a 22-24 and a xl from a 2xl-3xl.

I have been averaging anywhere from 700-800 calories per day. I mostly concentrate on what I am putting in my mouth and how much. Trying not too worry about calories too much yet but I do wonder what is optimal. My small victory is that I haven't had any "stuck" episodes for a week or so which makes eating a little more enjoyable and not a game of Russian roulette of the tummy. But don't get me wrong, I don't plan on getting too adventurous quite yet. It has been a long couple of months, but well worth the results. My other small victory came in the mail today. My secondary insurance wasn't going to pick up the remainder of my hospital bill and I got a summary today showing that they just wrote a check and that I didn't owe anything. Maybe they decided losing weight was a good investment. Hoping everyone is enjoying little victories this week and feeling better. We all deserve it.

Just received notification that my Anthem insurance through Fedex has approved my Insure Nutrition prescription and I will be receiving the shakes this week! I decided to try the optisource Caramel flavor - crossing my fingers it works for me! I wish I could stomach Premier but no such luck - maybe I tried it too soon after surgery, but it just seems really sweet to me. I will probably doctor up the caramel shakes a bit if they don't taste as blissful as what I'm currently drinking: a combination of 10 oz Water, 1/2 scoop of Optimum Nutrition 100% Gold vanilla ice cream flavor, plus 1 teaspoon of Decaf instant coffee, 2 T of Walden Farms caramel Syrup, and 1/2 of a RTD Atkins Cafe Caramel shake. After mixing I microwave for 2 minutes. Tastes almost like Starbucks to me! If I splurged for Starbucks Via instant, it would probably be heaven on earth...mmmm.... The Atkins adds incredible creaminess due to higher fat content, so I always try to stick to a 1/2 bottle.
