RAAinNH reacted to jc4444 in Those of you thinking of the sleeve
Hello everyone, it's been a while since I've been in here, I was sleeved march 20th by Dr Stowers in Decatur TX. Life has been amazing since my surgery, no major complications, i feel healthy for once in my life, no more knee pain, blood pressure and cholesterol are great! I'm at my goal weight of 175, I'm 5'10".
I if your thinking about getting the sleeve, STOP THINKING AND DO IT! It helped me in so many ways and I am very happy with my decision. Yes some set backs, like not being able to eat a whole plate if food sucks for the first 2 months, but after your mind changes and you get comfortable eating small quantities, it gets better.
Now when I got out to eat with friends, and I have take home food that lasts 2 more meals. And, when I see them eat, I think? "How the hell can they eat all that?" Mind has changed for the better, seeing all that fat, sodium and other junk entering their bodies makes me even happier that I made a decision to change my life.
Yes it sucks not being able to eat ice cream, "more than one scoop", but I'm happy when I don't. You can eat more, but your stomach won't like it at all, you will be going to the RR to throw up and have an awful stomach ache for about 30 mins.
You can eat whatever food you want, just not nearly as much as you would have before.
•PAIN- never felt any major pain at all after the procedure, incision lines never hurt, and the only time when my stomach hurt was on the staple line when I sneezed, coughed or the 2 times I threw up after the surgery. <"2 weeks only". I had the HH repaired and drinking Water felt weird for 2 weeks afterwards, after that it went away. The gas pain I felt in my shoulders for about 2 weeks, nothing after that.
The only regret I have is not getting it done sooner. Yes I was scared, but it's human nature to be scared of such a major procedure. ***But, ID RATHER SOMEONE WORK ON MY STOMACH THAN MY HEART"***
If anyone has any questions Id love to hear from you, take care and God bless you.

I have been trying to get approved for weight loss surgery for quite some time. Now that I have a firm surgery date for 2 weeks away, I'm freaking out! I find myself crying and full of anxiety, but yet I KNOW I made the right decision. I guess I'm nervous about being the fact that I have hid behind the fat girl persona and jokes for the last 14 years and now I'm not going to be that girl. I promise, I am a very stable individual and have confidence in my future. But for now, I just might need a xanax...lol! Anybody else go through this?

For years I wanted to go to a Yoga class. Yesterday I attended my first class! I was able to hang for the whole class. So I was beyond thrilled! Afterwards my sister and I walked on the treadmill for a couple miles and spent some time on the stepper too. We finished up with a healthy fruit Protein smoothie from the gym's bar to celebrate! Can't wait to try Zumba and Pilates!!! Loving this sleeved life! Blessings!

After surgery folks lose varying amounts of weight and some even gain weight. The 8 pounds does not indicate anything bad, your body is adjusting. It will slow down, stop, resume, gain, and lose again on the course of your new journey.

I kept it a secret through the whole process (except to family and close friends) and on the day of my surgery, a few hours post op, high on morphine I outed myself to the world. I have no regrets, it was my plan all along. I couldn't believe the rush of support and ongoing support. I believe we have all earned the right to our privacy and if you want to keep it a secret do! I agree that the only way for things to truly remain a secret is if no one really knows. Even yesterday my dad had a phone call at work from a past employer who had a question and she said "your daughter and I were in the hospital at the same time and have the same surgeon" my dad was like how in the world did she know? Well my best friend had told her mom who went to visit her friend and mentioned their former bosses daughter was in the hospital and why. I don't care either way but things like that spread like fire.

I wanted to keep it pretty DL if I could. (Im pre op- just submitted to ins last wk.) Anywayyyy, close friends, close family and that's about it. BUT, last nite at dinner with a bunch of friends, on of my friends (innocently) outed me. One of the ppl there I wasn't planning on telling, at least until way after. So my advice so far, "a secret between 3 people is easy to keep, if 2 of the people are dead." It isn't too realistic, but that's just been my experience so far.
As far as work, that's much easier. you just tell them you're having surgery. they arent legally allowed to ask what kind, but if someone does, just say 'girl stuff'.

I was keeping my surgery a secret but I did tell some important people. I figure on my 1 year anniversary or when I get to my goal weight jus posting on Facebook before and after pictures. I was planning on keeping everything a secret but I figured screw it. I did this for me and my future no one else. My boyfriend and my parents support my decision and that's all that matters. People are going to talk no matter what, I just want to make sure they keep their stories straight.
As for work, I would tell the person that approves your time off the truth and to keep it on the down low but if that person is untrustworthy. Tell them you have a personal matter you need to tend to and your doctor should be able to write you a note
