Hey Tropicana, I'm Sierra Leonian but I'm sorry I can't help you with that. I don't eat fufu but I think if you take your time it should be ok - especially with the Soup you eat it with (okra?). What state are you in? I'm in New Jersey? Wow! Its cool to see an African on here..well, I think you are African?

Hey Family, I returned from a little weekend trip to Baltimore. For the most part, it was pretty good but there were quite a few mishaps along the way. I was good with my eating on the day of the barbeque. I didn't eat much at all to my surprise. However, I am at work now and we had decided to bring food in. I brought a nice fruit platter with dip. But I think...No, I know I over did it with the food today. I have been really good about it before. I'm not too worried though because I do some extra exerciswing at the gym tomorrow. Hello Boston, its nice to see you here. This thread is growing everyday and its great. I would love to have our very own website to go to!

Hello Marchies..... Oh Juli: Congratulations on your lost pounds. I am so happy for you! Denise: You go miss Thang!!! You'll start feeling more energetic once you get pass the sore muscle stage. Lol!!!!! I JUST HAVE TO TELL YOU GUYS ABOUT MY WEEKEND. I got home from work on saturday afternoon to find out that my central ac wasn't working. I called the maintenance office and was told that my nonworking ac was not an emergency. WHATT!!!!!! ARE YOU FREAKIN KIDDIN ME!!! It was almost 90 degrees in my apt. I was and still pissed. My friend from Baltimore called me and asked me to drive down. I would have said no but I was thinking about how damn hot it was - so I took the drive down from Jersey to B-more. The following day, my friend had a cook out at her house. I started off real nice then her boyfriend's family showed up. Well, let me just say that they are not the best house guests. They showed up without bringing anything and a few were quite dirty looking. There was one chick who kept on touching me (arm, face) while she spoke and she had really bad breath. Not like the bandster breath. I had to tell her that I was not comfortable with people in my personal space and to back up a little. Then, there was this couple that ATE absolutely everything. I don't want to talk bad about them BUTTTTTTT.....they were slobs. Like, please don't try to shake my hand after you've just licked all five fingers. GROSS!!!! Then, a few of us went inside to watch The 5 Heartbeats. I had never seen that movie before so I was all into it. The finger licking guy kept on talking throughout the entire movie. He had the corniest jokes and would not shut up. I was so irritated. My friend was too. Well, that was my weekend and now I'm at work. Sometimes, life is so not fair.

    Frustrated and confused!

Hello, I'm sorry that today's consult was so frustrating for you. Unfortunately, there are some doctors that are a little closed minded when dealing with their patient's wishes. I am happy that you were able to stand your ground and insist on what YOU wanted. I would suggest that you do more research on the procedure and other doctors. You may find that there may not be any doctors in your area willing to consider what you want. You might have to search for doctors outside your area. I would also suggest you contact your insurance company and ask what are their requirements for Lap Band and give you a list of doctors under their plan. You might also have to consider whether you're willing to be a self pay. Whatever you decide, please make sure you feel comfortable with the doctor and ask a lot of questions. I wisk you the best of luck on your journey! You will run into roadblocks but please do not get discouraged.

Wow Kitty, I wish I could have that many. I am sooo envious. Sex after the surgery has been a lttle awkward for me. I am so worried about my port and my DP likes me to do all different types of positions..(yeah i'm big but I'm flexible). Anyway, I think all that worrying is making me a little uncomfortable with having sex. We don't go as llong as we normally would. I feel bad.

Mrs Husker; My sympathies to your family and his. Matt is with the Lord and his soul is shining from the heavens. God bless us all!! Hello Everyone, I was in North Carolina for a week and just returned. I had a FABULOUS time there. I will admit that I had some slip ups with my eating. Not that I ate a WHOLE LOT but I did eat things that I know I shouldn't have. Also, I only did one days worth of exercise and crunches. However, I can say that I did get in ALL my water and protein intake each day!! Now its back to reality and I have to get that scale moving in opposite direction. It felt good to hear people comment on weight loss. I did not think that I looked that different. I always had clear skin but I got plenty of comments on my face glowing. I had to tell people that I was not pregnant. I've missed you guys so so so so much. Although I had loads of fun, it felt weird not being able to log on an tell you guys. I'm happy to be back. I want to congratulate everyone on their NSV's :clap2: Lilnena and Demsvmejm - you guys rock. Tammy and Thick: :wow2: You two are beautiful! What an awesome difference. OH Julie: I missed ya, girl!!!! LoriPA: Way to go on the Arthritis Walk!!! Well its time to get my butt back in gear. No more country cookin for a little while.

MsDad: I'll be thinking about you on your special day. You have received some excellent advice on here. You are also very well prepared and most importantly you have your wonder DH supporting you. You will do fine - you will be fine!!!! :youcandothis: OH Juli: OMG...You know what's so funny?? Fom kindergarten to the 8th grade I attended St. Ladislaus - a Hungarian Catholic school. I'm neither Hungarian nor Catholic but I absolutely loved it!!!! All the nuns and priests were Hungarian and I even had to take some classes. My best friends name was Csilla and this boy named Imre had a crush on me!! Well everyone, I am off to NC to see my sweetheart. I can't wait and I've missed her soooooo much. I'll be there for a week. I'll be thinking about all of you!!!! P.S. OH Julie: How was your time with your hunney bunney? Did you enjoy the committment ceremony? "Viszlat!"

What tests did YOU have pre-op?

I needed bloodwork and a sleep study to get cleared for surgery. On the day of pre-admission testing, I had bloodwork, an xray, and a gallbladder ultrasound done at the office.

    Does it really work?

Hi Jacqui, I wanted to ask you about your weightloss. I know you stress the importance of exercise. I definitely agree with that. Since being banded, I have joined a gym but this time I AM COMMITTED in going. I do the treadmill for 45 min and I'm up to jogging for 15-20 min straight. I also do 'fun' things like Salsa and yoga. I find that you are one of the more positive people in regards to relationship with food. I like the fact that you eat almost what you like but know everything in moderation. Diets fail when we restrict a lot of what we eat. What I wanted to ask - In the beginning did you NOT eat a lot of different foods then gradually added them back to your diet? It has been 2 months since my surgery and I am doing pretty good. I'm just looking for advice from a successful bandster. Thank you!

Anyone with PCOS? And/or BMI <35?

SeeMeBeMe2: :wow2: You have been through a lot. I'm glad that you were able to find a good doc to treat you. I was diagnosed with PCOS last May. I don't have the cysts or a lot of the other symptoms but no periods and weight gain. Anyway, I was put on birth control. 2 weeks before banding in March, my surgeon told me to stop taking the pills for a month. Well, my period has come on its own since then. I never went back on the pill. I have a gyn appt coming up next month so I'll see what she says. I have a lost a little over 5% of my weight. Even with that small amount its doing a body good!!!!

Best fodd for me to eat following band surger.

There are a few Protein bars with fruit but I mostly get ones with peanuts/peanut butter and coated with chocolate. If you find any you just have to be mindful of the the sugar. A lot of Protein Bars have a substantial amount of sugar. There are low carbs bars like Atkins and South Beach Diet (these are crunchy/chewy). I hope you are able to find some where you are or online!!! Have you had your first fill yet?
  22. Afrykanvyolet

    Should I get banded?

LATE: Very well said. I could not agree with you more!!!! I definitely don't feel as though we should deprive ourselves. In faxt my doc and nutritionist do not recommend it. Its a matter of eating sensibly with the help of this tool. Also, its ok to slip up. If I do, I just try to have a better day the next time and get a little more exercise in.
  23. Afrykanvyolet

I AM NOT LOSING - after 3 fills

saltlick: Have you tried Water aerobics? It very easy going on your joints and a great workout nonetheless. Its a fun way to get your exercise in without the rough impact to your knees!!!! Magilla: I know the water thing is difficult but here's what I do to get all my fluids in. When I wake up, before eating, I drink a bottle of water with crystal light. About an hour or so after eating I drink another bottle of crystal light. That's already 32oz by noon. Before my next meal, I drink another bottle. During my workouts, I drink a bottle of water. Lastly, sometime in the evening, I drink another bottle or half of crystal light or water. That's over 64oz plus the two Atkins shakes I drink a day. Hope it helps!! Kelsy: I agree and do just about what you do to fight those hunger cravings. I was told not to eat something that has more than 9gr of fat. However, I snack on almonds and walnuts which has more fats but the healthy Omega fats that the body needs. Also, I do indulge here and there with SF ice cream. Klondike makes tasty ice cream bars. Also Edy's have a few good SF flavors...just watch your portions!!!!

OH Juli: I did get your PM and sent a realy long reply. I will email you next time. Hedwig: Thanks for posting here. Congratulations to you with your banding. I hope everything works out whatever your mom decides. Also, its so great to hear of the support from your other mom. MsDad: I don't watch RR but I'll have to catch an episode to see what you're talking about. You're also outnumbered by the lezzies and heteros. Where are all the other fabulous gay men??:noidea:

Thick: You look great girl. Keep up the fabulous work. :clap2: :cheer2: JackSpratsWife: Please...no worrying! :pout: You will lose. Your stomach just needed the time to heal. This should be where some the weightloss begins. You just had your first fill-so focus on getting the proper nutrition and exercise. I have a 10cc band also but have not heard about the 4cc thing. Anyway, you may not even need that much when you hit your "sweet spot." Outdoorfriends: I know about the strength it takes to leave the extra food on the plate. Even when I try to avoid that by portioning but end up full before finishing is hard. My eyes are definitely bigger than my stomach! Michelle: I'm sorry that you are going through an emotionally draining time but please be positive about your banding. I only lost a few more pounds than you since getting banded on 3/15. The rest was done presurgery. You're doing great.:whoo: I honestly think that it miaght be a little early to have that sweet spot. You will reach your goals. Its not going to be easy, and it probably won't be quick - but if you are determined, it will happen.
