Andrew0929 got a reaction from ShelterDog64 in Does anyone regret having surgery?
Many go through a period of regretting the surgery and I was among them for about 1 month.
I am 3 years out, down 150 pounds, and have maintained at goal for about 2 years.
However, 5 days post-op, I had internal bleeding and almost died. My BP was down to 65/25 and an ambulance transported me to the hospital in a huge snow storm. Had a second surgery on an emergency basis. I regretted the surgery for a while and mad that I risked my life and almost died.
But when the weight started falling off and all of my health issues disappeared I embraced having the surgery.
Now 3 years later my life is so much better than before the surgery. I'd do the surgery again even if I knew about the second surgery being needed.
Follow the process and use this tool to change your life and get healthy.

First off, I'm not calling myself skinny...yet...but I've noticed a couple of things with my body that I'm surprised about that I wasn't expecting since I've lost so much weight.
First off...how the hell do you shave your armpits when they've turned into a cave?? I swear, my armpits are so sucked in now, it takes me 15 minutes to try to shave them....as off tonight, they're pretty hairy because I gave up.
Also, it's uncomfortable to sleep on my side because my now boney knees hurt when they're rubbing against each other....I've tried putting pillows and blankets between them but I can't sleep with that stuff between my legs...sigh.
And don't get me started about my boney butt on hard chairs and toilet seats!!
I am constantly cold and am not looking forward to the upcoming Canadian winter. My husband is already agitated with all the layers I wear to bed as it is.
But even with all these new "problems", I still wouldn't change any of it for the world!!
So what are your "skinny people problems" you weren't expecting??

It certainly seems sufficient, along with lots of Water. However, everyone reacts differently so it's not guaranteed. But, at least you'll know that you did the most possible to prevent or minimize sagging, but you'll definitely benefit with a healthier body which is probably more important.

I'm down 150 lbs and have very little sagging skin. My Dr attributes this to lots of exercise and Water.

Had to post here, because I'm just so proud of myself. Yesterday was my longest training run for my full marathon. 20 miles! I know I will have another six to go on race day, but I'm counting on adrenaline and no need to "save" anything to carry me the extra distance. On training runs you have to hold back a little to avoid injury and to make sure you can recover. On race day, I am putting it all out there and if I have to crawl across the finish line, so be it! Less than three weeks to go!
Fun Fact: I weighed myself before and after the run. Despite drinking 80 ounces of Water and G2 on the run, I still lost 4 pounds. That means I sweated out 9 pounds! Yikes! Don't worry, though. I rehydrated the whole rest of the day yesterday and was back to my normal-ish weight by this morning.

Your concerns are very common and ones that many of us can relate to. I questioned my ability to achieve long-term success after being sleeved and still do on occasion.
However, things change after the surgery. My cravings for junk food somehow disappeared and were replaced with cravings for healthy food. I still don't get it but love it nonetheless.

You were smart to divorce him. It's unlikely that he would change after the kinds of things he's done.
Learn from the experience and try to move on. I agree with the others that you shouldn't rush into anything.
Spend some time getting your head together and establishing your new life without him.
When you're ready to start dating be very selective. There are lots of nice guys out there that will respect you and treat you well. I think you know the types of people to avoid now after going through this...

Surgery to remove 80% of an internal organ is not easy. I one week post op and doing pretty good, but there is nothing easy about it!
I had a similar reaction from a family member who I have tremendous respect for and it almost made me think about cancelling surgery. Then I remembered that I'm 40 years old and this is my life and my health. Not everyone has to be supportive for it to be the right thing!

Yes, I do, two years out I' m still dealing with my weight and weight loss issues. I still measure and weigh my food. I also weigh myself daily. In doing so I have kept 100 pounds off for the last year. As part of my weight loss I will see a nurse and nutritionist yearly for the rest of my life.

Upon arriving home from the hospital post-op, I didn't seek help getting on/off sofa and recliner and ended up with internal bleeding requiring a second surgery to stop the bleeding(although it had stopped on its own by the time surgery done)

It is normal to be scared. I know I was, and primarily because I'd never had surgery or been in the hospital. I did have all of the traditional weight-related conditions, though.
My surgery went well but I didn't follow instructions immediately upon coming home and ended up with internal bleeding and required a second surgery.
However, 2.5 years out, 160+ pounds down and at goal since 9 months out, I would choose to do this again without hesitation.
Follow your doctor's instructions carefully and don't worry.

At 2.5 years post-op, I'm less focused on the surgery part but still as focused on the food choices and exercise.
It is an intriguing question. A few years after the massive weight loss, when the steady flow of comments and questions has diminished, the surgery part of this process fades away.
I worry about losing my edge in staying on top of following the rules as time passes. I want to remain aware of all that I've been through as a WLS patient to help keep me on track.
Note to self: you will always be a WLS patient.

So the lesson here is - heed your Doctor :-) I've read a lot about having regrets in the few weeks after surgery. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I gather this is a combination of factors - for women, hormone dump (excuse my ignorance but do men experience anything like that?), the post-op liquid diet, and since no weight loss is apparent right after surgery, the feeling that you did the wrong thing. I must say that I'm glad I've been spending the time to learn as much as possible - although I'm certain there's a lot more to learn. At first the idea of WLS horrified me - I honestly thought it was reserved for really morbidly obese people like we see on t.v. shows. But as I started to learn more, and read how much it has positively changed so many lives, I started to see it as a possible saviour for me. And about adherence to doctor's orders post-op, I was planning on being home alone for a couple of weeks afterward, so it sounds like I may need somebody there to help for a few days...

I didn't follow my instructions after coming home. I was feeling really good and didn't seek help getting on and off sofa and recliner. Had internal bleeding and second surgery to investigate/stop bleeding. When he went back in discovered bleeding had already stopped.
Not a good experience and my blood pressure was dangerously low during my ambulance trip through a blizzard .
I regretted having the surgery for about 1 month afterward, but when the weight started falling off and I started to feel really energetic, my feelings changed.
Now, if faced with the decision again I'd choose to have the surgery even if I knew about the bleeding and second surgery ahead of time.
