If eating would conjure up a job, I would say go for it ... but it won't. It will just make things worse. Funnel your energy into practical efforts. You're going to have to white knuckle through the eating urge, but you CAN do it.
    File for unemployment right away.
Be ruthless in cutting expenses starting right now. Just because you are used to having something doesn't mean you need it, and that includes your kids. I mean things your kids are used to having, not get rid of your kids to cut costs, lol.
Call your lender to find out what, if any, assistance would be available for you. They may have a program. The options mentioned in the above post were HAMP, and for various reasons that does not apply to you. You just closed, you are not underwater, etc. Some states also offer assistance for unemployed homeowners.
When you file for unemployment, usually there is some sort of orientation that will cover other programs available to you.

Yesterday was 5 months since my VSG and as of this morning I've lost exactly 90 pounds! Only 90 more to reach my goal weight of 140. I'm so happy and so grateful for this tool. I'm starting to think I may actually make it to goal.

I think what some people mean is that you are falling off the wagon a lot for someone who literally just got on the wagon. You are setting up a pattern of behavior.
Seeing a therapist might be the best thing at this point. You want to get this under control before it gets out of hand. Sometimes people can't do that on their own. It's not a failing on your part. It's to help you succeed and gain the control you will need to make this work.

I also go out to eat a lot. I love good food. I have no problem ordering something I can eat anywhere I go. I take the rest home and I get a few meals out of it AND my pets have a field day.
I'm also 8 months post-op so I have post-surgery self-control. I did start eating out fairly soon after surgery though. I love going out to eat.
If you can't handle it now, then offer a compromise to them. Like a place with grilled salmon and fresh veggies. Lean Protein and fresh fruits and veggies are your friends. You don't have to have things you can't eat on your plate. Ask the waiter NOT to bring the bread basket, no rice, no sauces, just lemon, etc. Order only side dishes if you have to (a couple of veggies). No one ever got fat from eating too much spinach. That's what I do.

If you haven't tried every vegetable in the world you can't really say you don't like vegetables. I'm not overly fond of plain Water either so I squeeze a meyer lemon in it or a bit of lime.
There is a book you can buy on Amazon by Duc Vuong. He's one of the surgeons who tried to help the 900 lb man on the TLC channel. If you don't have a Kindle, you can download the kindle reading app for free on your pc, tablet or phone and read the book that way. It's $9.99 USD

He really teaches you how to eat post-surgery, even the supposed vegetable haters. I can't even begin to tell you how much that book got me on the right track and helps keep me on the right track every single day when it comes to what I put in my mouth. He's one of those people who is a gifted teacher and can get his point across and really make you understand. As far as eating goes, he is totally the man to listen to.
If you read it and put his eating advice into practice, you will lose your weight.
Don't short yourself after having the surgery. You can do it. You just need to make some changes.

JerseyCityGal reacted to puttingme1st in How my life has changed since surgery
I have been a part of a post talking about what we would not miss after surgery. I thought I would share how my life has changed almost 4 months since surgery and 88 pounds lost.
I am off ALL diabetes medicine! My triglycerides went from 286 to 118 ( I was a heart attack waiting to happen) I can sit in a booth anywhere we go I can cross my legs I can sit on the floor for long periods of time I get up out of chairs without it seeming like I need the help from a crane! Personal Hygiene is MUCH easier I no longer feel like I smell all the time. Sex is amazing I can wear clothes that have been in my closet for years with the tags still on, because I told myself "one day this will fit." I am active with my family. I am no longer a bystander in my own life My husband said I inspire him My kids can put their arms around me when they hug me I no longer need long naps during the day I can climb stairs I can walk more than 3 miles at a time. Before surgery I could not make it around the block without being incredibly winded. I feel more confident I have not flown since surgery, but I cannot wait to fly because I know I will not need to carry my seatbelt extender. I like looking at myself in the mirror now I am planning things that I have never been able to do before because of my size (zip lining, a 5K, amusement parks, etc...) I no longer live to eat, I eat to live I still have almost 100 pounds more to lose, so I cannot imagine how much more my life will continue to change. There has not been one day that I have regretted doing this surgery. As many have said, my only regret is not doing it sooner.

I keep my carbs at 50 or less on most days.
You can eat a lot of fruit and veggies and still be low carb. You just have to make good choices. An entire eggplant (about 1 lb) has about 10 carbs and 110 calories.

I hit my surgeon's goal for me at 6 months out and I plan on hitting my personal goal at 1 year out.
I know me, and that means logging and measuring are things I will need to do every day for the rest of my life. I function better that way. Freestyle just does not work for me.

I just could not believe how much I enjoyed it. Everything in it just made sense to me. His whole philosophy with what and how to eat seems so realistic and helped put me in a much better mind frame. I was recently sleeved 01/30/15 and am still on full liquids until Friday. This is making me look forward to the future and the healthy choices that I will be able to make. I have a much better perspective on this whole process.

I agree with Lilyrose. All of these posts have been so wonderful and I appreciate all of the help and support. Jerseygirl, your response was what I needed to hear - the way you put it, really put it into perspective for me, so thank you. And Berd, thank you for such a great document. I can print that out and use it as a reference.

I cannot recommend that book enough. They should hand a copy out to every single person who is sleeved. Dr. Vuong's nutritional and eating advice will take where you need to go and the ride will be a lot smoother than the majority of the crowd.
