  1. I am currently on day 5 of the pre-op diet. My pre-op diet instructions from my surgeon are 800-900 calories per day of any food they sell in their store in the surgeon's office. It's all specially formulated food that's low carb, low cal, high Protein. I have been following it TO. THE. LETTER. I haven't even had some of the "allowed" things like sugar free popsicles, sugar free soda, etc. I've been getting in OVER my required 64 fl. oz of Water a day. But I'm not losing any weight. I haven't gained anything, but I haven't lost anything. I am sitting at the same weight - to the decimal point - as when I started. I'm starting to worry. My surgeon has specifically said that if, on the day of surgery, I haven't lost any weight, my surgery is cancelled. I could see if I was cheating or not following the diet and not losing weight that I'd have no one to blame if I didn't lose weight but myself. But to be following it EXACTLY (even being more strict than the actual diet states!) and still not losing weight on day 5 is really disheartening. Not to mention I'm worried of getting my surgery cancelled! Anyone have any advice? Did this happen to anyone else? Does it take a delay to start losing weight on the pre-op diet and I'm just not seeing it yet? Is that common? Help!!

Nov 2013 Sleevers Progress So Far...

7 and a half months out, down 111 lbs - feelin' good! Still have a ways to go, but a good chunk of what's left is just skin that's going to have to wait for plastics to take care of it :/

    November buddies where are you?

Hi all! I am 79 lbs down from my heaviest and 62 lbs down since surgery 11/21. I went from a size 32 to now a size 24, size 4x shirt to a size 2x and have lost nearly 30 combined inches off my body. Feeling great but still have a long way to go!!

So far, so good! My weight loss has been pretty "slow" compared to others, but Dr. Kemmeter thinks it's because I'm getting too few calories (seems crazy, right?). But I'm killing myself at the gym 5-6 days per week and my calories are barely getting over 700 most days. He says with that combination (getting a "net" of only 100-200 calories per day) is hurting my weight loss more than helping it. So he advised to dial down the intensity at the gym and bulk up on the calories. How about you? How are you doing?

Just had my 6 wks post Op appt even though I am 8 wks post Op. Down 50 lbs from my highest, 32 lost since surgery. I have also dropped 4 pant sizes since surgery and 16.5 total inches from hips, waist, chest. Doc told me to up my calories on days I work out and burn at least 300 calories per workout to 1200 cals per day, which I don't think is physically possible!!

Nov 2013 Sleevers Progress So Far...

4 Weeks post-op today. A few days ago when I posted I was at 299. Now I'm at 297! Time to put the scale away for another week. I honestly think part of my problem (as far as scale not moving very fast) is that I only have a BM once every 3-5 days. I think I need to start integrating a daily fiber supplement (I've heard some people take 1 tsp of ground flax seed per their nutritionist's instructions) or possibly starting a daily miralax regimen to become more regular. I just feel like part of the reason I'm not losing very quickly is because I'm literally "full of it"

I was sleeved 11/21 so about 4 weeks post op. Highest weight 334 surgery weight 316 current weight 299 Finally broke out of those 300's!! At first I thought "Oh that's only 17 lbs since the surgery I've lost" but that's in only 4 weeks - that's over 4 lbs per week!! I will take that!!
  12. I am also a medical professional and went back to work after exactly 2 weeks. I had some muscle soreness under the largest incision when I sat straight up so I got an abdominal binder from Walgreens and it made all the difference in the world!! Good luck!!

Nov 2013 Sleevers Progress So Far...

I was sleeved 11/21 and am down 12 lbs from the pre-op diet and another 11 lbs since surgery. I am slowly getting more energy, but still wipe out easily. It's that darn abdominal muscle that's still hurting me the most. I only just started sleeping in the bed a few nights ago, and often wake up in pain from all the moving I do in my sleep without realizing. I stopped taking the pain meds around day 4 post op and haven't looked back. I am supposed to go back to work a week from today, so I hope this muscle heals up more by then or else it's going to be really hard to go back to work. I am also in the boat of not noticing a change in appearance/clothes. All of my clothes fit just the same, and when I measured myself, I haven't lost any inches. It's really frustrating. I am getting all fluids/protein in per day and have been since about day 4 post op...

    November buddies where are you?

Day 5 post Op and I am finally feeling a little better. Hit my 64 oz of water yesterday but only 15 g of my protein. Just keep swimming!!
  16. I am only 3 days post op. I had a bm this morning, I got down 32 oz of water and only 2 oz of protein. I feel really weak still also! But I am also having a ton of trouble sleeping! We just have to keep hanging in there!!
  17. Thursday is coming up fast! So excited! Good luck to all those having surgery this week, and especially my 21st sleeve-twins!!
  18. Susan, Thanks for the information! I have another question but I'm going to send it to you in a private message! Be on the lookout! -Kelly

    November buddies where are you?

I'm seriously thinking about putting the Christmas tree and hanging the stockings sometime Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday (my surgery is Thursday the 21st). I was GOING to keep with tradition and help put it up on Thanksgiving, but now that I see how weak some others are one week post op, and there only being 3 weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year because of how late Thanksgiving is, I'm thinking I will put it up BEFORE surgery. Plus it will hopefully put me in a festive mood when I get home and the warm holiday feelings may help with healing!!

How are you recovering? How did you like having your surgery at Saints? How was your first couple of days post surgery? I'm getting excited AND nervous!! But the good kind of nervous!

    Anyone Following A Paleo/primal Diet?

I'm considering taking up this diet/lifestyle after my sleeve - do you guys ever find that you "really" miss carbs? Also, if you DO eat something with a carb as a special occasion, do you find that you get the same "carb detox" symptoms I just got over as a part of the pre-op diet? I really don't want to go through that again, but am unsure that I will be able to forever swear off carbs (I love pasta so much...)

    Pre-Op Falling Out!

Today is day 4, so by tomorrow you should be feeling better and then continually better each and every day from then until the surgery! You can do this!!
  23. It must be my scale at home because when I went to the PA appointment today, I was down 6 lbs from last week! The PA even said that was "above average" for what they expect someone to lose in the first week of the pre-op diet. He also said to "stop weighing myself" and trust the process and that I was doing "awesome"
  24. Susan I'm so happy to hear that your surgery went well! Just over a week and I will be right where you are, literally (you are at Saints, right?) Any advice for me? Anything special I should bring? How are the rooms? I heard they're awesome!

    Pre-Op Falling Out!

I also don't think you're doing anything wrong. You may call the office and let a nurse know that you are having those symptoms just so they can be aware and tweak if they feel necessary, but as the previous poster said, it's mostly your body detoxing from the lack of simple carbs and re-training itself to use the fat deposits in the liver as a source of energy. Hence the shrinking of the liver which is the whole point of this pre-op diet. I had a lot of stomach cramps, nausea, cravings, headaches, and complete lack of energy for the first 3-4 days of my pre-op diet. I am on day 6 today and can honestly say things have much improved. I hope you get there soon, too!
