This is crazy! I had my first outfits ready for my first day back at work. I thought I looked fine, they fit and I could button them no problem. Around lunchtime, my teacher assistant told me to please go shopping to find something that fits! She said she loved me and what I was doing but she didn't want me to keep hiding myself under those big clothes! I didn't realize I had already moved down from a 26/28 to 22!!!!!

Agreed. The risk of living my life at 300 pounds and leaving my son motherless....I chose not to fret about risks associated with RNY, I educated myself well and put faith in my surgeon. All went well, it's been a piece of cake

newcelave1 reacted to BenisaMartim4 in #160 lost 1 year post op (w/ pics)
Hi everyone. It's been a long time since I've dropped by, but I just want to give an up date and a word of encouragement. I had my one year post-op yesterday. It was a bit late (2/14/12 surgery), but anywho. I was down #160 (335-175), twenty dress sizes (28-8) and over 252 inches. If I can do this, anyone can. I had my toes in the grave. I was on 21 meds and the doc told me I would die that way...whether I lost weight or not. Because of my problems he (my PCP) didn't think I would lost a huge amount (50-60#), but he encouraged me to have it do so I could 'feel a little better about myself.' Well, I'm glad to say I proved him wrong. I did lose weight and a lot of it. I also lost all of the meds and the cane/walker/wheelchair. I am a WALKING miracle. I give praise to God for my healing. Now because I was instantly miraculously healed, but because he allowed me to find the path and the means (insurance) to get what I needed to be healed. I do believe God instantly heals somethings in some people, but I also believe he uses the hand of good physicians to administer healing. This is the way he chose to give me mine. I encourage anyone that has had a long, unyielding struggle with obesity to talk to a doctor about WLS... Sleeve in particular. If you are on the edge trying to make up your mind, take my advice. Do it! You are sick? In pain? Lonely? Depressed? What are you holding on to! You have nothing to lose, but all of that. Are there risks? Yes. Is it hard? Yes. But come on. We all know the fat has a 100% chance of causing complication/death. Is it really that much of a gamble to take a 1% chance with a surgery. You're more likely to get killed in a car wreck on the way to get your next fast food burger. Do yourself and your family/friends a favor and choose life. I did and I would do it again and again.

    Before surgery (28, 335#) and on my 1 year Surgiversary (8/10, 178#)

I pureed Loaded Baked Potato Soup and it was perfect!!! Full of flavor and very satisfying... A lot of folks talk about carbs but its hard not to eat carbs during this stage.. To be honest... I eat a normal diet and enjoy carbs... I haven't had to limit them and my weight loss has been steady since my surgery. I just know that when I do eat which is 4-5 times mini meals a day I always start with Protein first.
    Good Luck!

I am down three lbs to 317....THANK GOD....Hopefully it will keep going down....
I didn't really do anything different. I think my body just needed time to adjust. Even though those three lbs had been lost before I'm good with being down again.
    299 lbs HERE I COME!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@ Melissa have you tried university of Chicago? They have a very well established program and excellent program. I had my sleeve by the most jr partner de prashad she is awesome!!! From what I've heard from other patients the sr partner is much more awesome, which I can't imagine, because de prashad was soo nice and good. From what I understand dr prashad is the laporscopic king. I did once work as a bariatric coordinator about 10 years ago, and even then that was the place to go to if you had problems or complications from wls. Yes it is also a center of excellence. Their process is very efficient and they have nurse practicioners that work hand in hand with you. I highly recommend them. Feel free to pm or ask any questions.
Good luck to all of you... We should totally get a Chicago meet up going.

I'm from Elgin . It's nice to finally know that someone is from the area . I honestly didn't need a drain nor a catheter placed...they did Intubate me as they do for all surgeries. Dr. Rantis told my family that he wished he would've used me as a demo because everything looked perfect & it went so smooth. I stayed in the hospital (alexian medical center) for 2.5 days. Sheri the nurse is great (from post surgical unit) as well as Annie and ray PCT. they will treat you will so much respect and Sheri was the only one that explained everything well and seemed that she truly cared (not just run out of your room). Is that will you be having your surgery done? I'm 3 wks post op and I truly feel GREAT...no complications at all nor bad experiences... I am still a little sore from the site where they took my stomach out of but that's normal since tissue and muscle is still healing. Keep me updated if u have any questions feel free to ask.
    Melissa.

This picture compares day of surgery and my 2 month mark. Wow! Down 27 pounds in 2 months which makes a loss of 47 pounds total including pre-surgery. I have more to go. But so proud that I'm doing this! Have been at this weight since college, 20 years ago!

I have lost slowly but I'm still losing. No major stalls. I figure I will have this stomach for the rest of my life. So as long as I keep losing I'm okay, no matter how slow it is.
