  1. Hi, I've been struggling in my adult life with my weight since the birth of my only child. I had the lapband done, which was a waste of money, it did nothing for me. My new doctor only recommended the bypass because he didn't want to set me up for any failures.

I was nervous and scared but I did it a year ago and I don't regret it. I lost over 80 pounds (I could have lost more if stayed on track) and still losing.

  2. Jacie, honey, I am So So happy for you. As someone who almost left it until too late , I congratulate you for doing it at a much younger age. Your son will be getting a new improved model Mommy, one that will have fun , play games with, and generally be fun to be around. Not saying you were all those things before but mobility does mean a lot. You'll now be the express train instead of the Huff and Puff model. And I want to be kept updated as time goes along because I do believe in the operation and its benefits. And mine has not been a textbook recovery, ask anyone who has followed me, but I find much to be upbeat and hopeful about, and I will not die soon from obesity, as once was predicted. I WILL MAKE IT AND DO A GREAT JOB DOING IT! This is my vow before God and all my Bariatric witnesses![emoji13][emoji259][emoji445][emoji254]
Thank you Frustr8... did I forget to say that I'm 55yrs old? [emoji4]. My son and granddaughters are all skinny minies!
The surgery went well, I'm just in a great deal of pain. Once I'm better, I'll post post-op info.

  3. My bypass is today! I can't sleep, I'm so nervous.
I'm rethinking things, if I could have done something different to get this weight off, but no matter what I try, my weight keeps going up. I was small in my early years, about 135. After I had my son, everything just went off track, I'm now almost 300lbs! This is my last chance to get healthy. Please pray for me guys, that I get thru this surgery. Thank you.

  4. Hello everyone!
I was approved a few days ago (after only waiting a week) and received my surgery date for December 12, 2018! I chose this date out of the few offered to me because I am currently in college and I will be able to finish up my classes prior to the surgery (which was a huge worry of mine.) It's about two weeks before my birthday too!
Anyone else scheduled out in December?
I'm also scheduled for Dec. 12th! I wish you all the best with yours!

  5. Some thoughts. The sleeve is 100% not reversible. Full stop. 80% of your stomach will end up in the trash.

The bypass *IS* reversible, contrary to popular belief. Since nothing is removed, only rearranged, it's all still in there in the off chance you have a major issue and need to put back.

The sleeve will almost always exacerbate GERD and Reflux issues.

The bypass will almost always cure GERD and Reflux issues.

Not everyone with the Bypass gets dumping.

The sleeve can still experience dumping.

The malnutrition and "side effects" are minimal and controlled with ease. There are a number of Bypass Patients that are getting 100% of their required nutrition from food alone, no supplementation needed. But even still, a few supplements a day aren't really a major issue and it works into a daily routine with ease.

Between the 2, The bypass beats out the sleeve on all metrics of weight loss, rate of loss, % kept off, etc. It might only be a few % points, but the Bypass wins out each time.

For me, I was banded in 2011. The sleeve wasn't approved at that time and I was scare of the Bypass because I didn't want anything "permanent" (I wasn't aware of the reversal potential at the time) I wanted something that could be removed... well, I got exactly what I asked for, non-permanence. I was originally looking at revising from band to sleeve. But my surgeon would not do band to sleeve revisions due to increased failure rate due to scar tissue from the band intersecting where the staple line for the sleeve would go. I mulled over the options, which were do nothing, remove the band and that's it, or remove the band and revise to bypass.

I opted for the Band to Bypass and I could not be happier with that choice. Wish I didn't let fear control my choice in 2011.

That's exactly what my doctor told me! I am doing a revision from Band to Bypass. He will not do a sleeve on me. He said, "I will not set you up for failure again."

My surgery is on Dec. 12th.

  6. I'm a 55yr old mother to a son and a Nana to 3 beautiful girls. I love them to pieces. I'm in Finance for one of the top Law Firms. I'm married to my wife, we've been together for over 14 years. Love music, love to travel, love being with family and friends even tho I can be an introvert. Not really good at describing myself...

  7. Walking is what helps gets rid of the CO2 gas that is pumped into your abdominal cavity during laparoscopy surgery. Gas-X does NOT help as it is for gas within your GI tract, which is not the cause of pain & discomfort post-WLS. It is an Internet fallacy that you should use Gas-X right after bariatric surgery. Save your money and just walk, walk, walk.
Thanks for that insight! I think my dogs will love the extra walk time. [emoji4]

  8. No advice but I am having a conversion from lapband to bypass. I have been given the date 8th December but have asked if they have anything sooner, it’s so close to Christmas!!
My date is set for the 12th. I wanted to attend our office annual Christmas party. I wanted to at least enjoy one thing before the surgery. I wish you all the best[emoji106].
