    Feeling pretty miserable

When I was about 5 to 6 days post-op, I started having dry heaves all day, and the shoulder pain was unbearable. I took some gas-x, pain meds, laid down, and put on the heating pad. About an hour later, I felt a lot better. I still had the dry heaves a couple more times which caused my shoulder to hurt, but I just followed the same procedure again. I didn't have any problems the next day, and the shoulder pain's been pretty much gone since. Stay positive. Your body went through a lot, but know that "This too shall pass."

    Feeling pretty miserable

Believe me, you do not want to put anything but liquids in your stomach right now. The Protein shakes should make you feel full. Change them up and try new ways to change the flavor. I put some instant decaf in mine and still do once in a while. It tastes great. You can also put frozen strawberries, mixed berries, bananas, etc to change it up. Hang in there. It's worth it.

Looking for a buddy - north of Dallas

Hi, Tammy. I love your user name. I lived in Lewisville for a few years before we moved further north. I think I prefer the country. I'm not far from McKinney. My youngest son works at Wal-Mart there. It would be great to meet up some time. I won't be able to this week, but next week would be great. I've love to chat with someone who is further along in her journey. Did your friend that you meet up with also have lap band? Look forward to seeing you.

Hi! I'm new and gotta question about my port

Good to know about a low profile port. Hopefully it's not needed. I'm hoping to NEVER have any kind of surgery again after this one.

    Banded 4/26/13

I'm 11 days post-op and haven't had any shoulder pain in about 4 days now. I do get a little discomfort after eating or sitting a while. I get up and move around and the discomfort goes away. I'm thankful the pain did go away, because it got brutal.
  7. My doctor gave me liquid hydrocodone after surgery. I didn't have any problems with it. It really helped with the shoulder pain along with gas-x and a heating pad.

    Port Location

I was told that the port was going to be under the bottom rib on the left side, but my port is just above the belly button. I just thought that was weird.

    Port Location

Ok. That all makes sense now. The only problem I'm finding is that my port is right there where I bend, so I feel it when I bend over.

Looking for a buddy - north of Dallas

Hi, Stephanie. That's a coincidence on the names. We adopted or oldest two boys and keep in contact with some of our previous foster kids. There's some more in common. I was banded on April 24th. I have been on a liquid diet for a week and get to start eating soft foods tomorrow. I'm looking forward to a bowl of malt-o-meal. I read somewhere that that is a good transition food. I had to do the high Protein, low carb diet for two weeks prior to surgery. It wasn't too hard. I had already been eating healthier, just not able to lose the weight. I'd love to chat anytime, no matter where we live. Besides, we have a lot in common. Who knows, we could be related. Lol

Just had an upper GI. Confused now..

I was diagnosed with MS in 2006. Three years ago I started having difficulty swallowing so was sent to a throat specialist. He did an upper GI and found that because of the MS, I was having difficulty with esophageal dilation and stretched the bottom part of my esophagus. I still have problems once in a while, but it's helped. I thought this would cause problems getting banded, but it didn't cause concern. The surgeon said that he can tell I had the stretch done, but that it is not in a place that should cause concern with the band. I'm only 6 days post-op so don't know how it's going to react with real food, but I'm optimistic.

    Any bandings in April???

I had the dry heaves yesterday, but my Dr prescribed promethazine for nausea and vomiting, so I took one of those and ate a popsicle. I felt better in about an hour.

    Pain in left shoulder??

I'm day 6 post-op and don't have any pain in the shoulder so far. Yesterday was bad though. I pray I don't have any of that pain for as long as some people have had it. I was told that the shoulder pain was because of the gas they put in the abdomen to have room to work. If that's the case, once the gas is out of the system, the shoulder pain should be gone too. I hope.

    Any bandings in April???

I had surgery to remove my gall bladder after it ruptured, but I don't remember having this kind of pain. I'm sure everything is just settling. I made the mistake of not having something before leaving for church this morning, and my sugar dropped significantly. It's hard to keep track of calories when I'm just on liquids and to make sure I get enough of everything.

    Any bandings in April???

I was doing really well this morning. Got some decent sleep last night, and didn't wake up in pain. Dummy me forgot to fix a protein shake before heading to church, and boy am I regretting it! My sugar dropped while in church, and I started getting nauseated. Them the gas pains hit with a vengeance. I am not doing that again. I was able to drink half a protein shake very slowly and take some gas-x. Now I'm just waiting for that pain to subside a little more. Does anyone else have problems with drainage at suture sites? Three of mine were draining during church and I kept having to go out to blot them and clean my shirt.

    Any bandings in April???

Looks like several of us had surgery on the 24th. I'm venturing out to the garden a couple times a day, but otherwise, I've got the blahs. I don't think this weather's helping though. I was looking forward to it training, but it looks like we're not getting any.
