How many of you had diarrhea post bypass? How long did it last?
Tomo replied to EmKat's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
No. I never experienced that. My first few weeks, moderate to severe constipation. Now at over 2.5 months, normal with slight constipation. Maybe ask your team/surgeon. -

Metallic Taste in my Mouth
Tomo replied to Dee.Lams's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah, if you don't have any of the other classic symptoms, you probably don't have it anyway. That is terrible they never respond. 😢 -
Metallic Taste in my Mouth
Tomo replied to Dee.Lams's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah, I don't think everyone gets the same symptoms. I only had it in the beginning. Metallic mouth can be caused by a lot of other things too. Here is the gerd one: https://metaqil.com/gerd-and-metallic-taste/ Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Should I be concerned that my doctor told me i will be her biggest patient to have performed surgery on?
Tomo replied to FootballMom92's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yes, I would be. I interviewed my surgeon on his ability and how comfortable he was in revision surgery. One can never be too careful. Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Metallic Taste in my Mouth
Tomo replied to Dee.Lams's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had that when I first got gerd. It is one of the symptoms I believe. Talk to your team if you keep experiencing it. Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Food cravings 6 weeks post op
Tomo replied to alandk's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good advice on this thread already but throwing in something that has helped me. I bought a mini Air fryer and it has really helped me with my cravings for fried food. I have a thing for crispy so I use it for so many things. Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Had a band for several years. Successful weight loss but later it embedded into my esophagus caused all kinds of problems. I was forced to remove it. The night cough and acid was the beginning of gerd/esophagitis. Perhaps call your team, and get a barium swallow to look at your band just to make sure you are safe from serious issues. What is your height, pre surgery weight and your 6 month post op weight?
Tomo replied to Chantrella's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It has been 13 years since I began my journey with many ups and downs, failures and victories... And it is still fresh in my mind how it felt then and sometimes now to have no control over food. I am thankful for having the opportunities that I have had to help me. Even losing 1 lb. a month, I am happy that I am not gaining 10. Better to research on ways I can improve emotionally, mentally, physically to take care of myself in order to beat this monster problem for me that had plagued me my entire life, obesity. I think too high of expectations on WLS can cause many people to fail or worse, depression. Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app -
How do I slow my eating down?
Tomo replied to erica1030's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same. Same. 😅 I didn't have a problem of eating slow in weeks three to five but now that I no longer get foamies... Etc. due to healing, I'm getting bad again. Today's lunch took 15 minutes, and I felt that I chewed a lot but obviously, I didn't make the 30 minutes. 😆I will try again with putting the fork down.. Etc. and the tips on this thread. -
Looking for revision advice
Tomo replied to DelaneyRoshell's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Surgeon approval is generally easy, but insurance approval (at least for me) came with complications such as Gerd/Esophagitis. I would seek a second opinion. There are surgeons that only do sleeve and there are those that are comfortable with revisions, RNY, DS... Etc. Good luck. -
I was just thinking about this thread. I had my revision to RNY due to gerd in August. Sounds like you are doing really well to me. To me, it's not race, especially if you are eating healthy and exercising, making the shift from poor habits to healthy self-caring eating habits (mentally, emotionally and physically). Generally speaking, to lose 4 lbs. a week you would have to have a calorie deficit of 2000 calories a day. Good job so far.
-
I'm a little over 2 months post-op (VSG to RNY revision) and am averaging 676 calories a day. I am on the fence whether to up it or ride the honeymoon wave. I asked my surgeon on my first post-op appointment, and he said to stay around this calorie range to lose more weight, that's about all the information I got.
-
I think you're doing really good. That's an incredible 4.2 lbs. loss per week.
-
Been using the app called Libra. It shows graphs, BMI, rate of weight loss per week, how many calories less you ate a day, goal vs actual... Etc.

GENEPRO GEN 2 PROTEIN COUNT EXPLAINED ONCE AND FOR ALL!
Tomo replied to getoverit's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Genepro is endorsed and recommended by many medical facilities, including UCLA School of Medicine to all their bariatric patients. The science is sound but people believe whatever they want to believe. http://surgery.ucla.edu/workfiles/bariatrics/healthy-eating/UCLA-Post-Op-Diet-Updated-2021.pdf -
Food Before and After Photos
Tomo replied to GreenTealael's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I only ate one because I am still just over two months after my revision to bypass. My eyes are always too big. But it was good going down. I put tabasco and salsa on the top after (not shown). 3 x Mr. Tortilla pico de gallo (1 carb tortilla), 1 oz cheese, 1 oz rotisserie chicken sprinkled on the tortillas and air fried. Craving sweets 1 month post op
Tomo replied to alandk's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sugar free pudding and jello are good early on. The Jello pistachio is probably the best flavor. I don't like sweets but my husband loves them so after that phase, I gave them to him and he said it tasted great. No after taste. Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app -
It is quite a bit, but I don't know how many weeks you are at or what surgery you had. I could kind of see that much if you are VSG (different sized sleeves variation) and if you ate the refried beans first. But not if you ate the eggs first. If gastric bypass, one egg was max for me at a sitting during that time. Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app

Non-Dumping Syndrome Dizziness and Nausea?
Tomo replied to JDenby's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Weeks 3-5 were my worst for my stomach to veto certain things, and you are correct that it can be healthy things. After 6 weeks, it was almost magical. Rarely any foamies and/or disagreements. -
I had no problems with any temperature. I drink my drinks super cold with tons of ice and my tea/coffee hot.
-
I had my pre-op a week before surgery. My post-op was 2 weeks after my surgery. Based on the half-life of phentermine, it's good to stop (at the very least) 4 days before surgery because there are studies that it causes dangerous anesthesia problems (hypotension).

No Restriction - VSG to RNY
Tomo replied to 2badogs's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Totally normal. I didn't feel restriction until I hit solid foods. I feel restriction like crazy now. I can be full from one piece of string cheese, or a small pickle... Etc. for hours. I think liquids and purees to some extent are like slider foods. Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app -
True, true. I got foamies quite a bit during the transition from puree to solids. Now I am much better (Thank goodness lol). I never got any other symptoms like the racing heart, flushing, nausea, malaise... Nothing. Just every 20 to 30 minutes, the saliva built up so much it had to come out. It is a miserable feeling, and I hope to never experience again (I am sure I will though. lol). Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app
