Two years and three months post RNY and down 135 lbs. I'm 59 and started in a 48D. Now, fitted properly at Victoria's Secret, a 38D or 36DD. They aren't too different because they were saggy before but the fat on my back and chest is gone. And they look good in clothes!

sassy14 got a reaction from Dub in What types of food can you enjoy down the road?
I'm 21 months post surgery, down 132 lbs with 8 to go. I eat a normal healthy diet. I don't eat nearly as much as non surgery people, but I eat a decent amount. I can eat a chicken thigh and some veggies, or steak and salad. I eat only good food. I'm wasting no space on food that doesn't taste really good and isn't nutritional.
I do eat a little dessert-- but it's a little. And not all the time. I also drink a little wine-- before I eat.
People who don't know I had RNY can't tell by what I eat. It takes at least a year to settle in to the new smaller stomach and learn what agrees with you!

I'm 29 months post surgery and can eat all those things. Some, like celery, I dice very small. Others like orange pith I limit. I love clementines--no problem with that. I can eat Italian bread untoasted, but toast regular whole wheat bread. ( I don't eat much bread).
I can eat sugar-- not good and try to stay away from sweets.

    Hello,
I met with my surgeon today and we both agreed that the RNY would be best for me! Now, I just have to wait for the approval for the actual surgery! I'm very happy and I got Dr. Irani. I'm looking forward to moving forward with this

25 months post RNY and 135 lbs gone means I am able to fully participate in life and am no longer controlled by food. I eat healthy and well and if I eat something sweet, Like a thin person, I enjoy a few bites and am satisfied. This is the best thing I could have done. Only wish I had done it years ago!

For me, with my surgeon, I tried to get 90-100 grams of Protein a day. I limited carbs and did count calories. My surgery was 2/28/13 and I've lost 135 lbs, down from 291.

Wow--your story is so much like mine! It was both my parents who made the cruel statements. They see me infrequently and do not know I had surgery. When they saw me at 1 yr post surgery when I visited my mother in the hospital after hip repair, her first comment was "you have a lot of wrinkles". Yup. Down 100 lbs.
I am 58 and they are 86 and their comments still bite me.

sassy14 reacted to RhondaFinch in Welcome ideas - longterm complications began 5 years after bypass & continuing now 3+years
Seeking any suggestions -- I, (50 years old at the time) had gastric bypass surgery performed June 2006, lost 150 lbs over next 2 years, then started gaining back but in 2011 complications began and now I am 145 lbs and health is steadily declining w/chronic almost daily severe low stomach pain w/eating (radiates into back) & frequent nausea; please see short overview below:
2011 - Internal hernia, trapped bowels (repaired by surgery)
    2013 - Developed bleeding ulcer (now healed--took 9 months into 2014)
2014 – Since 2011; continue to have abdominal pain after eating and frequent persistent nausea; not always but more often than not & health is generally declining over time; becoming weaker and having more difficulty managing daily pain over last 3+ years (many endoscopic procedures performed with no findings or results – What now?)
2015- Just had a recent endo inpatient procedure with no results, saw bariatric Dr. today and was referred to a urologist -- almost at wits end, this is a final search for anyone who might have any information on someone with similar issues who found a solution.
    Thank you, Mike

Why exactly does someone have to "own" having this surgery? Does someone have to "own" having a breast augmentation, or "own" having their prostate removed, or "own" having eye surgery?
By saying that someone needs to "own" a decision, to me that implies that the decision to have surgery is something that needs to be justified publicly because otherwise we'd be "deceiving" people. Someone should never have to "own" a medical decision, to justify making that decision in the eyes of their peers.
And guess what? Telling my coworkers never made a single bit of difference in how much they talked. Humans gossip. It's what they do, and telling or not telling doesn't change that fact. By telling them, instead of gossiping over whether you have surgery, they gossip about whether you should be losing more or less weight and what you're eating and whether (they believe) you should be eating it. And what's worse is that now they think they have the right to openly question you about these things, because (they think) obviously you value their input or else you wouldn't have told them.
Point blank, no one should ever be bullied into disclosing personal medical information, least of all by someone on a support website.

How much more weight do you need to lose? Are you close to goal?
I know for me, it was not an even amount if weight I lost every month. Some months it was only a few lbs but I would lose a dress size. Just keep measuring your food and concentrate on Protein and drink plenty of Water. You've got this!

I am very private and really don't like all the attention. I had surgery two years ago, lost 136 lbs so I really look different. From the beginning, I told everyone (except two coworkers who are friends) that I was working with a doctor to get healthy. It's true and so far no one has asked me the doctor's name!

I watched the 600 lb life where are they now episode about Chuck and Paula last night. I was stunned to see a bottle of coke-- with sugar no less-- at chuck's seat. It was half gone and he was sitting there eating! Soda! Drinking while eating??? Then Paula has a sweaty water bottle sitting right next to her plate.
My hubby yelled out- what are they doing with soda? Why are they drinking with food?
The only person I know personally who had wls and regain drinks soda all the time and drinks when she eats. I don't think that's chance.
