No need to defend this Julie. You are not ready...or you are not interested. Either one is OK. I was widowed in 1994, remarried in 1998 and after the marriage went belly up in 2002, I didn't bother again till about two years ago and that was based on a heart to heart with myself after a cancer diagnosis and knowing that I needed to see if there might be someone out there for me. And yes...there are those would would understand eating restrictions. If he doesn't, he's not the one for you is all. In fact, my eyes are still bigger than my tummy and Corey is the one who always reigns me in when it comes to ordering at a restaurant. And he's a big eater so I know he understands how much I eat...not how much I think I can eat. He's also seen what happens when I get stuck. It's not pretty as we know, but he understands it's part of my makeup and is nothing but supportive if I get into trouble.

Hi Jen. I have some similarities to you. I also likely have an undiagnosed auto immune issue. The rheumatologist has told me that there are lots of auto immune diseases that have not been identified as lupus or rheumatoid arthritis have. I also suffer from arthritis and joint disease.
All the doctors can say at this point is that I have a genetic inflammatory illness. They know this because both my mom and sister also have inflammatory issues...just not in the joints like me. Mom has IBS which is inflammation of the bowel, and my sister has a skin inflammation disease that many on this forum also suffer from..hidradentitis suppurativa.
My issues started before being banded so I can't say that the band is related to any of this. But I can say that with the excess weight off, I can deal with things better though I've been on anti-inflammatory meds for quite a while, I've also been on Lyrica and low dose Cymbalta for nerve pain.
Oh..and I also had cataracts. There is evidence that steroids create cataracts at a substantially quicker pace than just aging alone. I had very small, very stable cataracts for years. Once I started taking steroid shots and oral steroids, the cataracts became horrific in a matter of months. I've had both eyes done. If you've been on steroids, it might explain the need for cataract surgery.
Unfortunately, I'm currently in a pain flare and am back on oral steroids to break the pain cycle. I'm accepting the fact that this is a chronic issue with me and I'll never be pain free. All I can hope for is more good days than bad. Some of the meds I take make losing/maintaining the weight loss a challenge. I also can't exercise like most people. I spend alot of time in the pool. It's easiest on my joints so I do exercises there.
Rather than continue this diatribe, feel free to reach out to me if you want on Private Message and we can chat. Hope my story helped you a bit.
Oh...and one more thing...I've had both my hips replaced and at some point, I will need to do my knees as well. The weight loss and hip surgery has given my knees a break but they are still bone on bone and I won't be able to avoid surgery forever.

Now this makes me happy. Try to remember that it's about meeting new people and putting yourself in the position of the possibility of finding love. If you keep your expectations where they should be, you'll be OK.

I too, rarely respond to posts anymore. I'm too far out from newbies and I let others take the lead on questions posed. What I do try to do is give hope to those who feel hopeless. If I can accomplish that, it's enough. All I know is when I read old posts now and again, I get sad because so many of the people who were here when I started and even during my weight loss journey are simply gone now.
I can't help but wonder where they are as they were so important to me as I was going through everything. I hope they are all well and happy and have just moved on...but there was a time when I had really good virtual friends here and not many are left now...
    Sorry for the sad post...

I just reconnected on FB with one of the vets and she will start to post again, but yes...while looking up older posts, I see how many of the people who helped and supported me, gone gone gone.
I can only hope they are doing well, and be grateful that when I was a newbie, they were here for me. This site, and the people on it, were integral in my success and I'll never forget them.

Hi all. Just an update that I'm getting back to normal slowly but surely. I want to push myself and Corey keeps reminding me that it's only been three weeks so I'm trying to find the balance. Speaking of balance, I've gained ten pounds since my back went out. Some of it I know is remnants of the swelling from the surgery but I know better and I've been eating poorly due to boredom, fear, entitlement, all of it. I said I wouldn't be keeping a closet full of different sizes and I mean it. I weighed myself on Monday and owned up to the gain. I've been very thoughtful since then about my choices and am hoping to lose that extra ten lbs. before I head out on my Scandinavian trip a month from now.
Sounds like you are doing well Sharpie and I can't tell you how happy I am for you. Am hoping Julie and JWM are good. I'm FB friends with Lisa and Tammie and they seem to be well. I've no idea what's happened to the others who were on this site. I don't even keep in touch with Virginia (CarolinaGirl) anymore. I want to believe they are living happily ever after but who knows...
I promise to post pictures from my 'trip of a lifetime' when I get back.

Hi Oregondaisy. Cathy is right. I'm not sure who's left and who's gone. I miss alot of the vets as well but before Alex banned some of these folks, the site was full of conflicts and ratcheted up posts. I'm in touch with a few of the old timers but it's just a few at this point. I'm just hoping all my old friends who were on this site are doing well.

I totally take responsibility for any and all of my health issues caused by being obese My diabetes has been gone for years but before that it was a daily chore to keep it normal. scared the hell out of me , high blood pressure is not joke either, can cause strokes, etc. so much healthier now than I was before band. update on panni surgery, drains are out. still sore, went out last night for a little music and dancing (not too much ) but got tired really quick. We came home early and I haven't been up much today, Bob made me promise I would keep it down today. He really didn't want to go out last night but I had cabin fever.
so, he gave in and took me out .. he has been so good taking care of me. hope everyone is healing well. got no big plans this weekend except try to get back to normal. P.S the surgery was totally worth it.

How old are you? I ask because I'm just a few weeks shy of 58 and men my age or older are just so damn happy to be getting some, the last thing they care about is some excess skin. If you are considerably younger, it might be more of an issue just based on youth and inexperience. (Their's, not yours)

So we all sound like we've got our challenges...and trying to deal with them as folks who are years out from WLS. It's not a magic bullet for sure and is very much a daily struggle to stay on track.
I am understanding that for me, this surgery feels like a setback which I know is not but I feel like it's my fault and part of the guilt I feel for putting my body through such trauma by carrying so much excess weight. No one thinks I did this to myself but I know that I do. It's why I'm having such difficulty during my recovery. I feel like I deserve these problems because I let myself get so fat. Yes I know this is not reality but my perception. It just shows that I carry stuff in my head and likely always will.

Hi all. Just an update that I had my surgery a week ago. I'm dealing with typical post-op pain but the important thing is that I'm walking upright with no more leg pain. Once the incision pain and other related discomforts recede, I am thinking I'll be good to go again. Had a bad day yesterday because I couldn't make it to Opening Day which was really important to me. I spent the day feeling very sorry for myself and eating poorly but that was yesterday and today is a new day.
Hope everyone else is doing well.
