it also shows how desperate people are to lose weight. And of course all these people will gain it back. I suspect they do this for short term results, not as a lifestyle change.

Hey lellow...gonna miss you but I agree completely with your post. It's very frustrating to see how many folks don't get the band at all and expect the weight to melt off and/or to never be hungry again or crave food that's not good for you, or not sticking to band sized portions yet wonder why they are not successful. Good luck and come back soon.

Oh Arlene...four small cookies? You were not bad. You had a salad and a few cookies. Don't be so hard on yourself. Sounds like this could have been a disaster had you eaten much of that fatty food. You did good girl. Congrats.

You are an inspiration to me Kime-lou. To have suffered such a great loss and still be able to function and look to improve your life is amazing. I understand the struggle with temptation...we all do. None of us got to the size we are by eating smart and as food is our drug of choice, you've simply fallen off the wagon a bit same as anyone else with an addiction. I have no great words of wisdom...you will find your way, I know it. You are a strong woman. Next year at Mother's Day...if children have not become a part of your life...do something wonderful for yourself to celebrate the person you are. Get a massage, go on a trip, buy a new outfit. Whatever brings you pleasure, go ahead and do it.

I have such a similar story. Also put on major pounds after stopping the smoking. Also have a very bad right knee due to arthritis and all the extra weight. I'm 54 and have three grandchildren who I cannot keep up with between the extra weight and the knee pain. I also have hypertension and my first 'intervention' was at the age of 13 with my first attempt at Weight Watchers. I also got control of my weight at certain times in my life but could never keep it off. I came close in the early '90s but a bad second marriage sent me right back to eating badly and it's been downhill ever since. Now for the good news....I was banded on January 14th and as of today (I weight in once a week each Sunday) I'm down 51 lbs. My knee is still giving me trouble, it may be beyond rehab at this point but even if I get a replacement, the lower weight will help me have a successful outcome. As far as the hypertension, I went from 90 mgs. of nifedipine and 300/25 mgs. of Avalide to only 1 med daily....20 mgs. of lisinopril. Good luck on your journey, I know you will be a success.

Can't wait to shop. Thank goodness I had so many items in the back of the closet that were too small so I didn't have to spend a lot of money, but I'm getting to the point where those items are starting to get big as well. Funny enough, I'm waiting till I visit the folks in Florida to shop as there are no Walmart, Target, or even Avenue stores in Manhattan (there's one Avenue left in Harlem since the midtown store shut, but I live downtown and it's a pain to get up there and drag clothes home on the subway or bus. I have plenty of weight to lose yet so I'm not looking to spend big bucks right now for 'interim' clothes so I'm trying to be fairly selective with what I need and what it costs. That's why I'm staying away from Bloomingdales, Lord & Taylor, Saks, etc. I loved your post CG....you have to make it up to Arlene in Boston, or me here in The Big Apple so we can go major shopping!

Good post Terry. I've been on this site since late December to get info and find out what to expect. I didn't really get the hand holding I was looking for from the doctor's office and I was really nervous about this procedure and my life afterwards.
It seems to me...also a generalization...that alot of folks have unrealistic expectations...that the weight will melt off...that hunger will no longer be an issue, and that somehow this will all happen magically. When that doesn't happen, people make poor choices.
Then they post this experience and you get the moms and dads giving advice and/or sympathizing. When I post something, I just try to be positive and encouraging without lecturing. I think most folks know when they know they did something self sabotaging.. .
Now I do admit that I have lost more weight than I expected at this point in my journey, but I know this will not continue. I'll slow down and plateau at some point. I just find that the band helps me to make better decisions because I'm not hungry all the time and I DO NOT want to get stuck or throw up. That is a great motivator for me..
