  1. So, my wives new insurance company for 2016 will cover my Sleeve surgery after a 6 month supervised diet. I meet all the other requirements. But I have my surgery scheduled for self pay on 11/18. My self pay price is around 11,200. I have the $ on hand. But the decision I need to make is to wait another 6 months or do the surgery in a couple weeks? I have a unique situation when it comes to my healthcare, I have a secondary policy that pays for all my deductibles, so if I get approved by the insurance company in 6 to 7 months from now I will not have to pay anything for the surgery. Thoughts? Mentally I am ready to GO.

    Update on my dilemma

Thanks everyone! My wife and I made the decision to wait until the 6 months of a supervised diet are complete. For now I will keep prepping myself until surgery. Then my new life will begin.

    Update on my dilemma

Thanks! Asking my wife to marry me was easier! LOL
  6. My wife called me today. The new insurance for next year might be covering Bariatric Surgery, she is looking into the details when she gets back to work today. I'm self pay and only paying 11,200 for the surgery that is scheduled for 11/18 this year. Lord give me the patience to get thru this today....

    Arrrggh!

Has your surgeon required any evaluations or other visits with specialists? If so, and your new coverage is a PPO, they most likely will accept those requirements that have already been completed (approvals are normally good for a year). Sure there still might be others you have to fulfill but you could be closer than you think if you decide to go the insurance route. If it's an H. M. O. then that would be another story. Have your wife get the insurance company name, phone number, and insurance GROUP number and call and ask for benefits details for that particular group number. You won't have a member ID yet, but they can answer questions based off that group number alone. Hang in there and get the insurance facts. That's a big chuck on change you could save if you are already half way there. Good luck. We are looking into the new insurance, same company, but now they will cover the surgery, The money fortunately isn't a issue for me. The possible delay is what would suck for me. I've done, psych eval, blood work, EGD and EKG already. Just meeting with NUT one more time before my surgery on the 18th of Nov.

    4 days post-op

Thanks for sharing your experiences. My surgery date is 11/18. I have to do a clear liquid diet for 10 days before surgery. and continue with that after surgery, but with protein drinks added. Best of luck too you.

    Question On liquid diet

Withdrawl from caffeine is probably the headaches..I quit soda last october and it was hard. I was sick for a week and half! I did a 9 day liquid diet last time I was scheduled for surgery and it took 3-4 days to adjust. Hopefully this will pass soon. I start my all liquid diet on 11/8.

    My pre surgery diet

are u doing better today? The first pre-op diet I did was for 14 days (I cancelled surgery the day before) and the first 3 or 4 were the worst, the last 10 were ok. This time around I'm doing a 10 pre-op diet and know what to expect. I drank lots of Water and ate sugar-free Jello to stop the headaches.
  14. My Dr says I won't be able to take Naproxen after the sleeve surgery, I have bad knees (unfortunately WL surgery will not help with one of them) I am wondering what other treatments that your Dr's prescribe for anti-inflamitories. Tylenol #3 doesn't work, the only drug that works for me is Naproxen. I really don't want to get my knee replaced before the Gastric Sleeve surgery. But I might have too.

    Medications?

I've been getting injections for at least 10years on my right knee. My routine is every 6 months I get a synvisc injection and if needed in-between injections I get a shot of cortisone. I have had 2 arthroscopies on my right knee in consectutive years. The ortho said he cannot do anymore surgeries on my right knee, he ruled out a partial knee too. I will have to get a complete knee once the injections don't work anymore. I just received and injection on Monday and it isn't working.. The ortho knows about my WL surgery and said it was going to help my left knee for sure, but my right knee is too far gone. IT worries me since I can hardly walk the days I don't take the naproxen. Thanks RickM, Susan66 and BLERDgirl
  16. Re-scheduling Surgery for 11/18. I cancelled my surgery earlier this year. I needed a little more time to get my support system in place. ALL is good. Just working out all the details with my new surgeon.
  17. My surgery date is Jan. 5th. I'm scared as I could be! Pre-op starts next Sunday the 21st. I think the reality is setting in!
  18. 9 days into my pre-op, (14days required) I cancelled my surgery today, I found out this weekend my support system was NOT supporting my decision to have surgery wholeheartedly. I will try to lose the weight on my own again. wish me luck! Thanks for all the support on BariatricPal. Goodbye.

    Cancelled Surgery

Not at all, I am a person that needs a good support system to succeed like I have at my job, I cannot do EVERYTHING for myself. My wife thinks that surgery should be my LAST option to lose weight.. I don't think I used up all my options yet. She has seen me at 245lbs to 360lbs and loves me for who I am either way. Paying for the surgery wasn't a problem either. We are financially blessed. Good luck with your surgery. Plus I would never cut anyone out of my life, life is way to short.

  21. I am 6 days into my Pre-op. Doing great. I just keep thinking about the complete lifestyle change I am about to make on Jan 5th. I am sure I am not ready.. I know it is normal to have doubts, I am self pay and can get my $$ back. Does anyone know what the rate of cancellation is?

    Hit a stonewall

    Thanks.. I'm sure I will.

    Hit a stonewall

I feel like I am not doing it for myself, but for friends and family. I am usually the person that makes everyone else happy and forgets about myself. I told my wife and friends I will make a final decision by the end of this weekend and will continue the Pre-op until I make a final decision.

    WTH?

I made it thru X-mas dinner, I took a nap while everyone else ate! I usually do all the cooking, but my Mom helped my wife with the meal. Pre-op wasn't too bad today, hopefully over the hump. I have been a little crabby though.
