    Pre-Op diet and exercise

I am only a few days in to pre-op, everything is going fine, my walks I do are making more tired of normal. I'm sure it is because I don't even enough calories. But I try to keep going

    I chickened out

I cancelled before too, this time I have the right support system in place, which last time I didn't. My wife and kids are being very supportive this time around. So far, I've lost 40lbs and just started my pre-op diet today. DOING what is best for you is the way to go. GOOD LUCK with your health in the future.
  4. I was at my pre-op appointment this morning 8/15 and the office lady walks in with my approval for surgery! Perfect timing! Aug 30th is my surgery date! I HAVE no out of pocket expenses! Thanks to insurance and meeting my deductible already for the year! tomorrow I start the pre-op diet.

    Favorite Protein Shakes

I like the Syntrax Nectar fruit juice flavored protein powders, I like Pink Grapefruit and Fuzzy Naval the best. They mix best with water that isn't really cold, plus I like Premier Protein too, but I don't care for the consistency, but I can drink it down anyway. Unjury is good too. I try to mix it up to get some variation.
  6. Surgeon's office called today and said Pre-op appt will be Aug 15th and Aug 30th will be my surgery date, depending on insurance approval. This stage of the process is almost complete, then onto the next stage..

Great news! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  9. I'm finding out my patience has worn thin.... I had my last 6 month supervised diet check on July 29th, waiting on approval is driving me crazy!!! I am not to concerned about the surgery itself. I've worked hard to lose what I have lost during the 6 month diet. Just let me start my pre-op and cut me open. haha. I've had several surgeries over the years and know what to expect, but waiting to hear from the insurance company is tough!

    Insurance approval

My last diet check is tomorrow, and then the paperwork gets sent to Anthem. Hoping for a quick response! Good Luck to you!
  11. My paperwork will be submitted MONDAY Aug 1st! I was told the best option to have the 6 month supervised diet done with the surgeon and his dieticians, since they know what the insurances want submitted to them. My PCP suggested the same thing too, maybe talk to your surgeon for further advice what your PCP needs to submit?

    Anthem weight loss criteria

I have anthem too (Indiana) I will have completed my 6 month supervised diet coming this Friday, I saw the NUT and Dr every month for 6 months and they have documented all my weight loss during that time, and Monday the Dr Office will submit my paperwork to Anthem, I've already completed the psych evaluation, upper GI, Doctors recommendation and have Diabetes. I hope to have an answer within a couple of weeks after submission. DID they send all the documentation of your 6 months of visits?
  13. I am almost half way thru my last month of my 6 month supervised diet, I am struggling... I keep on thinking in a couple of weeks my Dr office will be submitting my paperwork to the insurance for approval. I am so far maintaining my weight, (I've lost 34 lbs) but my exercise has been limited to short walks, because of knee pain again, I had another injection (synvisc) and I am not bouncing back to normal like usual. My ortho isn't sure if me losing a bunch of weight is really going to help with my knee pain since I only have about 1/3 of my meniscus in my left knee and 1/2 in my right knee, I hope when I weigh in on the 29th of July that I don't gain weight. My insurance doesn't say either way if I lose or gain weight during the 6 month, but I need to follow thru with the 6 month requirement. ANYONE else have severe knee issues like mine? How did WLS effect you?

    The Struggle

Thanks for the encouragement, eventually both my knees will be replaced. but they are picking a bad time to give me so much pain right now! I forgot to add I take Naproxen 500mg twice a day too! I'm just having a hard time staying positive went my knees hurt so bad. @@ojibway severe knee issues since your knee does sound so bad - any thoughts to a knee replacement (i'm not a doctor) obviously carrying less weight on your body - will put less pressure on your poor aching knees i had a torn meniscus at one time that was operated on doc told me i had veryyy little cartlige on my knee (bone over bone) my knee replacement was scheduled to happen a few months prior to WLS i happened to mention about getting the sleeve to doc the surgeon almost "dropped his pants" and said let's wait til after knee replacement after a few months you have lost some weight!! recovery (PT) would be much easier weighing less at 5'3 i was at my heaviest of 235 lbs doc was right about waiting, things afterwards were "alittle" easier still very painful!! hopefully YOUR knee will improve with surgery take those small walks for now as time and weight "lessens" - you will be able to move and walk more!! it sure helped me as far as your comment about hopefully maintaining weight before surgery i have faith in you (someone has to ) keep working hard pre-op, you still have time to lose a little more weight you've already lost 34 lbs!!! party dance party dance good luck think positive speedy recovery kathy

    The Struggle

Cortisone works for about a week for me. I need to use 1 shot Synvisc about every 4-5 months just to walk. I have 4 surgeries. I played a lot of sports from and my knees are just about done. Keep of the awesome work that you are doing!!!!

    The Struggle

I've had 4 knee surgeries (2 on both knees) Dr won't replace both knees until the injections stop working, which could be soon since he had a hard time getting the needle in my joint this time. But we are both hoping that with some weight loss that he will be able to get the needles in better. Thanks for your reply

Any men doing this besides me.? Lol

Hey Fellas, I will be having the sleeve sometime in late Aug or Early September, I have lost a bit of weight (25lbs) during my 6 month supervised diet (required by insurance) I have really bad knees (4 surgeries) I wish they would just replace the damn things, but only 46, so the orthopedic surgeon wants to see how I do after losing more weight. I cancelled my surgery twice before Jan of 2015 and late 2015 because I found out my insurance was going to cover the surgery for 2016! if I meet all the requirements. Which I do. I've done the pre-op diet twice! I remember having headaches for the first 4 days and then I was ok, I used to keep busy reading or going for a walk to get my mind of food during those day. Sorry to ramble on forever. Best of Luck to you guys. I am ready for the new me.

Pre- and Post-Op Shopping/Activities in LA and SD

I believe the Bariatric Store on this site does ship internationally, I could be wrong. Please consider shipping items back to Japan to avoid carrying or rolling heavy suitcases around. I would use FedEx or UPS to send items back to Japan.
  20. I just finished up my 5th of 6 months supervised diet. just waiting until the last visit on July 29th and they will submit. getting pretty pumped! I'm used to eating 5-6 times a day, now I am trying to wait to drink after meals and sipping water. I feel like I am ready for the BIG change to come!
