Honestly, how much do you vomit?

I'm in the minority here, but I've vomited so much since surgery that my surgeon has de-progressed (& re-progressed) my diet a few times trying to get it under control. I'm currently on a mostly mushy/liquid diet still. I do not have a stricture, blockage, ulcer, over-active acid production, or any other medical reason why. I am now also lactose/dairy/gluten intolerant, and cannot ingest animal flesh, except for the random bite of tuna fish, a couple of shrimp, or bite of haddock. I eat extremely slow & chew to near-liquification. I do not mix fluids & food. the only way i dont slime &/or vomit is by not eating solids. Not trying to be a downer, but anything can happen post-op.

    Please explain

I was NPO for 24 hrs immediately after surgery, so I only had these little spongie stars on a stick to hydrate my mouth. I only missed one days of pills bc of it. (sleeved on wed am, took my pill before surg, missed thurs & doubled up Friday) As for "trouble swallowing", I still have trouble & for me it is -& always was- as if it just doesn't want to go down. I think it's just the change in space/size of the stomach. You get used to it. At first it messed with my head a bit but now it's no big deal.

    WHOOO HOOO! Congrats! Lookin good!
  8. Ok, I don't normally do this but I need to have a little rant... My BF's bday was yesterday & we are meeting his family for a BBQ tomorrow. Except they have now decided that having a BBQ is too much work (after I already bought the meat for everyone else, & shrimp to skewer for me), and they want to just do deli meat sandwiches, Walmart dessert (i.e., Little Debbies or something)...(after I already prepared a gluten-free, low sugar, Protein added spice cake bc a few of them are diabetic & I thought I might try a nibble), and they are OFFENDED that I (& my BF) still want to bring our BBQ food & don't want to eat lunch meat! I mean honestly, IDC what anyone else wants to put in their body, but #1: I simply cannot eat a sandwich...bread is forbidden (& Frank-my sleeve- doesn't like it anyway), & deli meat, even if it didn't make Frank cranky & cause vomiting, is disgusting & not healthy anyway. And #2: I'm not asking for special privilege here, or even understanding, just don't call ME snobby bc I want REAL FOOD that DOESN'T HURT MY GUTS...while I continue to not care what they eat, why do they care what I nibble on? I'm so hurt that I'm being made out to be the heavy here, when I had nothing to do with the planning of the BBQ, or the change in plans, or anything at all...I've just complied all along & getting bored of their indifference towards me when I put so much thought into these events of theirs. Ugh. ::end rant::

    They want to eat WHAT?!

I'm glad I'm not alone! Lol I had to bring my own stuff to Easter (it was 4 days post-op, so...yeah lol), Memorial Day & a bday party, so I'm not sure why they're making such a huge deal out of THIS. We even offered to do the actual cooking, so it's not like they're going to have extra work... I'm still taking my shrimp!
  10. OMIGOSH! Mine itched sooooooo much! Lol I was so happy to have them out.

    Sashimi

I had sushi at around 2 mos but picked around the rice. I didn't try rice until 3 months. As soon as you're cleared for fish, you probably could try it, but just be aware that it will sit heavier than cooked fish so maybe only one piece will fill you. Or at least that was the case for me...

    Post-op liquids

It was a life saver for me! Changed the game completely.

    Should I?

I wouldn't stress too much. Your surgeon knows what he wants & if you don't have to do liquid, then WHIOO HOOO! I gained back ALL the pre-op diet wt I lost in the 3 wks before surgery OVERNIGHT (IV fluids...), so just enjoy food while you can.

How many calories to lose weight?

I'm almost 4 months out. I start every day with a pint of Water & a Protein shake (about 45 min between them), & eat about every 2-1/2 hrs after that, until 7 pm or so. I eat very high protein foods & minimal carbs (though I don't "count" them, I just avoid yeasty breads, crackers, white veggies, sugars, etc). I found that when I allow little bits of processed carbs in, I'm STARVING 90 min later. My meals tend to consist of things like: 1/3-1/2 veggie burger with dijionnaise 1/2 hard boiled egg, sliced Abt 1/2 container Greek yogurt 1/8-1/4 c Small curd cottage cheese 1/8-1/4 c Veg chili 1/3 hamburger patty w/sliced pickles & mustard 4-5 grapes Slice of watermelon 1/2 grapefruit 1/4-1/2c bean Soup 2-3 slices roast beef 1/4c tuna salad

How many calories to lose weight?

If I go above 550 consistently for more than a week, I stall out or slow wayyyyy down. I get about 450-550/day & about avg 65g protein & 100 oz water. I walk/jog 3x/wk. when I don't, I stop losing.

    Interesting dermotology issue

Get it looked at. That's exactly what my shin/leg staph infection turned cellulitis looked like. I nearly lost my leg over it.
  19. It's like anything... You get out what you put in. If you're active on the boards, supportive of others, fair in how you treat people, etc, that's what you can expect back. I'm post-op & haven't been very active sine my 1st week home after surgery. I was very active in the 6 months before my surgery but came here to whine one day, & god forbid... So I just stayed away for a while. Overall, there's a ton of info & nice people here. But the vets definitely can be a bit touchy.

    I'm a little hurt..

Does she have experience with WLS? I mean seiously, WTH... & totally not defending her btw, but I am 3mo out & I regret it every time I eat. Sounds like someone who -at the very least- is not as supportive as you deserve. Don't let her get to you. Living Well is the best revenge.

    Post-op liquids

I had a horrible time right after surgery. In fact, I couldn't do protein shakes at all until about 2-1/2 wks post-op...until I got a gravy strainer & started straining the foam off my shakes. Have you tried unflavored powder? You can mix it with broth, juice, mio/water.
