  1. What I wanted know from people was when did they go back to work? Or when they felt well enough to go back to work.

    Insurance Approval For Revision

Hi my insurance is blue cross anthem they have been awesome and easy. Had my first Lapband 2008 lost 50 pounds. Had a leak replaced system 2009 finding I had scar tissue. Soon after second band started having issues with stuck issues started gaining weight because I couldn't eat much of the healthy foods and was hungry all the time. Met with my surgeon because I didn't want to gain everything I lost and talk about my options. Long story short my pre op is the 24th oct and surgery date will be determined shortly after. I'm curious about the different recovery times people are experiencing?

    Conversion's A-Comin'

LOL I too in similar predicament. I am having my band removed this year due to scar tissue causing overtightness of normal non-erosion, non-slipping. Went though a battery of testing as this is my second band. First band leaked and I had a lot of scar tissue then so I think everyones body is different besides the fact we have a foreign body around out stomach. I chose the band after tons of research and talking to three surgeons and asking a bizillion questions. The fact the what I do for a living is read numerous surgeries a day and code them for medical reimbursement I have been lucky enough to read all types bariatric surgeries I was able to form a comfortable decision on what I wanted done. Two surgeries later I am rethinking what will serve me in the long run with all the new techniques surgeons use for bypassing. Due to the scar tissue it was recommended for my age and metabolism that i select the bypass instead of the sleeve. The sleeve is just like the band without the apparatus and if someone is having issues with scar tissue or pain in there upper stomach it likely they will have the same with the sleeve as so I am told. However I have a friend that was sleeved the same time as I was banded and she lost approx 60 lbs the first year and not a pound since. So I am understanding that each surgeon has a protocol for there banded patients and there issues. My guy says that each MD bypass differently to which I have noticed in my other family and friends weight losses and struggles. I am happy to have a conservative Surgeon in doing his bypass patients as not to over malaborb them...I am looking forward to my band to bypass sometime in Oct date still pending insurance. Good luck to all of you hope to stay in touch:-)
  4. Hi I am 5'5" 230lbs I started my weightloss journey with a lap band in 2008 successfully losing 50 lbs the first year. Not all without bumps in the road. 2009 I had a new band put in due to a leak. Appearently this developed scar tissue from both surgeries. This happens to some not all lap banders. Call me challenged. I met with my wonderful surgeon this afternoon and he answered all of my concerns and questions regarding removal and conversions. My biggest fear vitamin and iron deficiencies which he explained how and why people have these issues. Sooooo I will be scheduled for a removal of band wait and see or removal of band and bypass all in one conversion. My choice of course....I am looking forward to talking with all or some of you on this blog.... More later.....

    Pre-Re-Op Appt

DIfferent surgeons use lengths of the intestine which changes the malabsorption. Some MD's use a silastic ring during bypass some don't.
  7. Hi me too...... I just had my pre op re op appt. Lots of scar tissue from band causing trouble eating even when empty band. I am on my second band. My surgeon tells me I can go from band to bypass in one shot. If I go sleeve I have to do two surgeries. My apprehension for bypass has always been the malabsorption and vit deficiency issues especially Iron anemia. I had a great talk with him and for me he recommend bypass because of my metabolism issues. Enough about me how are you feeling and what was your downtime after surgery and did you have to have a drain?
