zoepoodle got a reaction from walkin'onsunshine in October Buddies wanted
I had my pre-op apt today. I am not required to be on a liquid diet prior to surgery, except for a bowel prep the day before. I am surprised, as I thought everyone had to do that. Yay.
How are things progressing for everyone else?

Practicing liquid Protein Drinks helps get your body used to them so that you will get enough Protein after surgery. In your first consultation with the dietitian, you may receive information that includes details about how much and what types of protein are the best quality for bariatrics patients.
ANSWER: Practice. Practice. Practice.
QUESTION: What is “How do you get to Carnegie Hall?”
This would be a great question for Jeopardy under the category of “Truthful Jokes.” So, how does this familiar joke work for bariatric surgery? Would you really perform music on the stage of Carnegie Hall or make a presentation or write a great report or make it to the World Series without a lot of practice?

Start with one Protein Drink per day as a Meal Replacement. As you get closer to surgery, add another protein drink to replace another meal or snack. There is a period of trial and error to find the best one for you, so you’ll likely need to try a variety of protein products before you find what works for you. Cutting way back on food portions isn’t the same as allowing your body to adjust to an all liquid diet. Start practicing the protein drinks way before you have to go on an all liquid diet. This may be one of your best performances!

Most people complain of a "stall" 3-4 weeks post-op. Your body is getting used to the changes and the trauma it has experienced. As everyone just said, if you stick to your plan, the weight will come off. If stepping on the scale is making you crazy, stay OFF it! I weighed once every 2ish weeks only at my bariatric center. If I owned a scale, I'd get on it several times a day and go bananas.
Breathe. You got this!

So for 18 days you lost 1.8 pounds A DAY!
Then your body probably said : "WHOA--wait a minute here!"
Take it one day at a time and do what you are supposed to do and your body will likely begin loosing again.
You didn't gain all your weight in 18 days did you?
It still takes time to lose it even with weight loss surgery.
Blessings,
Kathleen

So far I'm on track for October 13 I haven't discussed recovery time with my physician yet so if he thinks I can manage with only 1 week off then I will have it in October. If not surgery will have to wait until my December break.

I. Don't plan on telling anyone except my mother and my daughter knows. I don't feel ashamed I just have better things to do than constantly explaining my procedure and I why I chose this as opposed to dieting lol. Most people don't understand the amount of testing, debating, research, praying, and soul searching that is done before we even get to that first seminar and dr's appt. so I think I'll spare them and myself the time and the reliving if a terrifying ordeal.

I was at 220 when I had my surgery, when I lost 60+ lbs in 5 months my co workers looked at me strange some asked if I was ok... So if they asked I would tell them that I had weight loss surgery...but I could feel the stares of my concerned coworkers whom I'm sure thought I was sick. But it's a personal choice. It's nobody's business, I just felt like I would rather let them know then for them to think I was sick or was dying they seemed more concerned then just being nosey!
