  1. I guess I've also hit my first stall. SW 223, CW 199. sleeved 10/29 in the middle of hurricane Sandy. Thank God they didn't cancel me. But even though I'm 24lbs down, no loss at all in the past week. I don't think I'm getting enough of whatever I'm supposed to be getting but I'm eating almost the same as I was on the pre-op so I thought I'd still be losing. Started back to the gym a week ago. Doc said treadmill only for 8weeks. :( I know I'm not hitting my Protein mark or my fluids although some days I'm pretty close. This is so much harder than I thought it would be. I'm worried that I've already done something to ruin my sleeve which is why I've stopped losing. Even though I know it's a stall (3 week one at that). It's just hard to keep focused when i thought it would just fall off.

  2. Hello all, I deserted for quite a bit but thought I'd check in. I was sleeved on 10/29, the start of the hurricane here in NJ. I don't really remember the day well, the anesthesia really knocked it out of me. Because of the storm, I had no one with me at the hospital. Hubby came and waited until I was in my room. Then 2 of my daughters stopped up for a bit. He came back that afternoon but by the time he got back, the hospital was asking visitors to start to leave due to the storm. I mostly slept.

Monday night, into Tuesday I had the worst dry heaves EVER! I was sure I was going to rip something. Tuesday was the leak test and I swear the stuff they gave me to drink was bile. :( Luckily I only had to do 2-3 sips.

They let me go home tuesday afternoon. I was nauseous all day from the UGI. I've never had a drop of pain and like someone else posted, I wondered if they just punched holes but didn't really do anything.

My surgeon said, No Vitamins and NO Protein until I see him at my post-op appt. That confused me because up until that moment, all I heard was Protein, protein, Vitamins forever! =/

Still, I'm learning. I've found that my stomach gurgles when it's trying to tell me I'm full. This happens after a few sips in a row. I'm never hungry (but then I didn't get fat because I ate when I was hungry... I ate when I wasn't) I LOVE peppermint tea. I have at least 2 cups per day and it helps to calm the demon sleeve.

I confess that I'm afraid this won't work, eventhough I can already see and feel a change.

at my pre-op clearance on 10/16 I was 223. Now less than 20days later, I'm at 200. I see the surgeon on Tuesday to go over the operation, the game plan, and to be released back to work. Being home is making me crazy.

I'm glad to see that most of us have gotten through with only minor issues. Good Luck and God Bless. :)

  3. It wasn't fake. Pretty judgemental...She was on full liquids for 2 weeks. Walked around like she'd had nothing done. Did have incision soreness day 2-4 but nothing major. She's 15lbs down as of yesterday. She's 58, lower bmi (36 i think it was). Wish her surgeon was doing mine. He's a great guy. Dr. Clark in Virginia. Im headed to TJ.

didn't say it to be judgemental and yours wasn't the post to which I was referring. so, sorry if you were offended. Personally, I'm far too chicken (and sick) to do an outpatient sleeve. More power to those that do.

  4. I actually believe that I read a post around here somewhere that someon came home the same day with no complications no restrictions etc etc.. it sounded fake to me. I know some sleevers personally by 3 diff docs. Perhaps it's because it was the same facility but if you went in on monday, you didn't leave til tues evening. Also, it depended on the patient. Some of them stayed longer. but none were out sooner.

  5. I have no drains at all, I'm walking, coughing ad using the blue suck in thingy, the pain is so going through my whole right side when I breathe in, it's horrific! It's not that I have a problem drinking I can drink its just it hurts when I do, if that makes since, they Hear my stomach they hear a little bit of stuff but not much, whatever that means they didn't tell me what they heard, I'm still on dalatid and loratab liquid for me to go home I gotta be off the dalatid totally but I get so uncomfortable and hurting that the dalatid is what keeps me comfortable ad helps me sleep! I don't know what's going to happen today I'm honestly not ready to go home but it's all up to the nurse, and I just want something to help with the gas!!!!

I'm no doc but after I had my gallbladder out (10yrs ago), I had leg cramps etc. and they said anesthesia side effect blah blah...then I had chest pain and they said gas. I kept walking. That started on a monday. By friday I was back admitted for a pulmonary embolism. We thought I was have an asthma flare up.

Be safe... ask what the risk is that it's a PE. Don't go home in pain like that. They can call the insurance company for "concurrent review" and keep you admitted.

Feel better...sending hugs and prayers your way.

  6. I haven't had surgery yet but I'm on the October sleevers group and wanted to check up on you all and see how it's going. First, congratulations! I hope to join you on the losers bench soon. But this thread has sparked some questions & comments.

    1) I'm so glad that I had a uterine ablation 2 yrs ago, no TOM for me which is good because it seems to be triggered by this procedure ;) and it seems to be painful afterwards.

    2) did any of you with calf pain speak with your surgeon? I only ask because it could be a sign of blood clot or of potassium deficiency and I was wondering what they said.

    3) do gas x strips make you burp or do they just make the gas go away. I am physically unable to burp (sad but true) so I'd like to find something I can use.

    4) what are the slimes? Can you prevent them?

Thanks so much ! And congrats again " losers " ;)

  7. Definitely recommend and aquatic class for low impact but I have you considered a fundamentals (intro) yoga or pilates class where there is not alot of movement that would trigger your asthma but you would toning and building muscle which burns fat so when the weight starts to melt away you will already have started that toning and strengthing process which may show better results in the long run on your body. ;) Just a suggestion

Yoga and Pilates...wow, there's a challenge. :) Thanks, you're right, and I do believe my gym has classes in both. YAY

  8. Been so busy with school that I haven't been on in a while. It took me over an hour and a half just to catch up with all of the postings.

So, CONGRATULATIONS!! to all of you that have had your surgery already. I was glad to see the post-op postings. They were very reassuring.

To Chad, sorry to hear about your struggles at home. I'm praying that it all works out the way it is supposed to for you. But, CONGRATS to you on the loss. You must be overjoyed to be under 300 even before surgery. Please continue to post about your procedure and recovery.

To everyone new since my last (september) posting, WELCOME! :)

I recently had my preop bariatric class; they gave us an incentive spirometer to use from now until surgery. What fun. =/ My pulmonary clearance is scheduled for 10/10, PCP clearance 10/16, endoscopy 10/18, PAT 10/19, final visit with the surgeon 10/25 and then SURGERY 10/29!!! WOOO HOOO!!!

Like the rest of the waiting sleevers, I can't wait to be on the Loser's Bench! :)

Again, congrats, to the already sleeved: Well wishes for a speedy healing and recovery. To the rest of us, many blessings for a safe procedure and speedy healing.

    ~Tammy

  9. Hello October Sleevers! Apparently Susan beat me to the punch and added me before I could get to the end of the forum. LOL Thanks Susan, you are so on top of this.

I am 41yo, with my hubby for the past 22yrs of it. I have 4 children: 3 girls (32, & twins that will be 21 on the 29th of this month). 1 Boy: (22). Just so no one hurts themselves counting, my oldest daughter is actually my step-daughter but I've had her with me since she was 6yrs old so she's mine.

I also have 2 grandchildren: my granddaughter is 3 and my grandson is 19mos.

My health history is extensive but I'm hoping that VSG on 10/29 will fix at least half of what's going on with me. :D

    So far I'm scheduled for:

    10/4 Mandatory Bariatric Pre-op meeting

    10/18 upper endoscopy

    10/19 preadmission testing

10/25 final meeting with the surgeon for pre-op review

    10/29 Surgery!!!

In there somewhere I need two clearances...one from the PCP and one from the pulmonologist. I'm just praying that they give me the go ahead. I'm also praying for a negative H-pyori. I don't want to get pushed back any further.

Like everyone else, I'm having 2nd and 3rd thoughts. :( But I know that this is what I'm meant to do. I just got back some recent labs that said I've gone from hypoglycemic to pre-diabetic. I can't be adding that to the list.

Congrats to everyone! So happy to be able to share this journey with you all!.

  10. Hey Everyone!!

I finally got an exact date with out errors :) :) It will be on the 29th of October...I work at a hospital in Little Rock, AR under Patient Access in the ER.

Not only did I find a person with the same date, it sounds like we do the same job; I'm a patient access liaison in S. Jersey. :D Can't wait for 10/29!!! Good luck to you, keep me posted on your progress.

  11. I am 3 months post op, I regularly slice jalepenos and fill them with ff cream cheese then grill them as a side with my turkey burger. The other day, I did I with a habenero.

Tonight, I made 4 cheese mashed cauliflower bake with Italian turkey sausage, diced green chilies and diced jalepenos.

I love spicy! Very thankful that I can enjoy it like a normal person now.

OMG... that sounds delicious... My first spicy meal has just been planned. :)

  12. It's seems like we may all be sleeved together.....that's awesome!

This is all I think about these days, and everybody in my life is just about done hearing about it...lol

It's nice to know people in the same part of this!

I've been very vague with everyone and most of my family doesn't know yet. It is nice to come onto the forum and see that there's so much support for us. It is all I think about and the closer I get the more I worry. Not that I'll die (I'm not afraid of that) but that I won't be able to lose even after the sleeve. That's why I haven't told anyone that I'm doing it.

Not to mention, the people that I have told all look at me funny and say: "you're not even big enough to need surgery. You should just excercise~eat better~eat different~etc." Then when I tell them that I exercise, eat well, etc. they act like I'm lying. Why bother to share?

  13. How old are you guys? Kids, marital status etc .....tell me about yourselfs;)

41, married~ same man 22yrs, work in healthcare, many ailments besides obesity: celiac disease, sleep apnea, asthma, fibromyalgia, herniated discs, hypoglycemia, it's a long list. I have 4 children, the last of which is a set of twin girls who will be 21 this month. The day I came home from having them I weighed 128lbs. I tried to get a tubal ligation and was told I was too young (20) so they gave me a birth control implant. It's been downhill ever since. I gained 70lbs in 9 months so I had the implant removed, but my weight just keeps going up. I'm now +100lbs from my post baby weight, or I was. I've been struggling for at least 18yrs and I'm tired of doing it; so, here I am.

PS: I have 2 grandchildren so I'd like to be able to keep up with them.

    What about you? :)
