  1. I asked one member this on a personal reply but I thought I would put it out there to anyone .. I noticed many of the posts and ideas for food once yu get to "regular" food include bread, and pastries etc... I was told by my doctor not to eat bread, pasta, or rice. He gave me the impression that it would clog my sleeve. Also am not supposed to eat oatmeal, celery, asparagus and artichokes due to their fiberous qualities. Some people say they eat anything they want but in moderation... is this a personal thing? Am I just going to have to experiment to see what I can and can't tolerate? I think the things I miss the most are crackers, chips and nuts. If I chew these well enough, will they be ok? I haven't gotten anything from the Bariatric company that supports my doctor and my doctor's advice is: "Never more than a cup of food, 3 times a day, no bread pasta or rice" I'm sorry but that just isn't good enough to create an eating plan on. I'd appreciate any advice or suggestions as to what worked and what may not work so well. I am in my 5th week, post op and I am getting ready to go to soft foods for 2 weeks. also... My husband and I eat out a lot. I get the part about sharing food...not a problem for either of us and odering off the "sides" or kids' menus. Is there anything hidden I should be aware of or does restaurant eating just mainly boil down to common sense? Thanks so much in advance. I have enjoyed reading most of your posts!

    Breakfast foods high in protein?

Suzanne, I have been told I can't eat bread, rice or pasta and yet I see you have bread in 3 out of 4 pictures you posted as ideas (they look good, of course anything would after 6 weeks of liquid and pureed food!) How does this work with your sleeve? I am being led to believe that bread or soft pastries will clog my sleeve? would this be an individual matter that you just experimented with?

    food questions

To those of you who posted replies ...thank you for sharing. My main probelm is going to be food issues. The Bariatric company that is connected to my doctor's office is of little or no help with a sleeve diet. On one hand they say I can have toast but my doctor says no bread. Is consistancy the issue? I can't have soft desserts like cake but an Oreo hard cookie is ok? They say I can have cream of wheat but I can't have oatmeal? I can have nuts as long as I chew them very well. O.K. but why is oatmeal bad and nuts ok?? No one can answer these questions for me. My paperwork says that I can crackers and lunchmeat..So crackers and chips are alright to eat? I am going to start soft foods this Wednesday. I take this to mean: soft boiled eggs(the powers that be tell me NOT to order scrambled eggs, but don't tell me why), cottage cheese, chuncky soups (as long as I chew the contents) mashed potatoes and other soft vegetables, fruits without peels. Really? Apples without peels are still pretty tough. They list tuna as a soft food? Is all fish soft food? Is hamberger meat considered soft food? See my confusion? Can someone out there with some experience in this soft food diet area help me? All the registered dietician from my bariatric company does is send me a list of AMA approved food. She won't answer specific questions, and no one in my support group has had this surgery so they are hesitant to discuss it. while I'm posting... I orginally had this surgery to rid myself of diabetes which I have had for 14 years. Right before and right after my surgery my fasting blood sugars were lower than ever without meds. Now they are starting to climb even though my diet has not changed. I am wondering how those of you out there with diabetes have faired with this surgery. I am hoping I made the right choice. Thanks! Jody
  4. Well, I am here hoping to find others like myself that have had this surgery. Many of the doctors in my area are not doing this surgery and so when I try and go to support groups I end up talking to people who have had the Lap Band or the RNY surgery. I am finding that my surgery is different than those and I really don't have anywhere to go to get support or ask questions. I had my surgery on December 28th of 2010 so I am about a month out. I am doing pretty well except for the eating portion of all this. I never seem to be able to get all my protein in and if I do I don't get in all my water. It is becoming frustrating. Well, I didn't mean to whine just wanted to introduce my self and see if Icould find a helpful community.
