Thank you for bringing up OBAMACARE! I work in healthcare and have already seen many of the advantages of the Affordable Care Act...It really bugs when people diss it and they have NO idea what is included...Obamacare ROCKS! And seriously, to the OP, do some research on MEXICO,or another surgeon that will work with selfpay clients. This can happen for you :-).

As much as your situation sucks and I'm sorry for your troubles, I would look at some other options before taking the fatalistic approach. How about switching insurance plans during open enrollment? Mexico? Obamacare:
Obamacare prohibits lifetime limits (A cap on the total lifetime benefits you may get from your insurance company) on most benefits in any health plan or insurance policy issued or renewed on or after September 23, 2010. In 2014, Obamacare prohibits new plans and existing group plans from imposing annual dollar limits (a cap on the benefits your insurance company will pay in a year) on the amount of coverage an individual may receive.

    Fellow OctoSleevers,
I just wanted to share this because I am inspired by all of you and feel a little weak, shameful, and pathetic right now.
    I had a rough weekend.
Mistake #1 was inviting a bunch of friends over for football this weekend, none of whom know I'm having WLS
Mistake #2 was making sure there was plenty of pizza, wings, chips, and beer available, you know, to be a "good host."
Mistake #3 was, after staying strong for a few hours, having "just one small slice of pizza"
Mistake #4 was having that one slice turn into 3 slices, a half dozen wings, and half a bag of chips
Mistake #5 was having "just one" beer
Mistake #6 (as I'm sure you can guess by now), was beers #2, 3, and 4.
Mistake #7 was not insisting that everyone take home leftovers, or having failed that, not throwing away leftovers
Mistake #8 was eating another 2 slices of cold pizza later last night / early this morning.
I can only hope this hasn't completely derailed the small gains I was making. I hope that I can get back on track, and stay strong. I hope this is the sort of thing I will be able to control post-sleeve. I have been leaning on this community's support, and yet having read through many more posts of success today, I don;t know if it made me even angrier at myself, more embarrassed, or what. I have known for so long that I have to change. I started today by throwing away everything "bad," prepping my Protein Shakes and healthy Snacks, and hate-walking 30 minutes uphill on the treadmill. I'll find out tomorrow how badly I've betrayed my scale (who had been treating me so well these past few weeks).
Thanks for letting me vent. Congrats again to all those already sleeved this month, and good luck to the upcoming losers (60+ ppl getting sleeved this week, according to Susan's list!)

My surgery is tomorrow. I leave for the hospital at 6:30am. I have all kinds of different thoughts and emotions swirling through my head right now. Mostly I am excited and looking forward to change... Even if it means losing 75-80% of my stomach in order to make it happen. I am really fighting the urge to have one last food funeral before my 8 hour pre surgical fast begins. I am not going to give in because it just wouldn't be pretty...I know I have an emotional connection to food. Food is where I go when I am sad, bored, or feel I deserve a reward. Anyways, I am really ready for this and am actually looking forward to the hard work that will follow my surgery tomorrow. I am going to have to find some sort of healthy habit, a positive addiction, to replace food.
Good luck to the other Monday sleevers out there...I'll make sure to check in on the flip side!

I made it safe to TJ Samuel picked me up from the border parking lot. Tomorrow is my day I'm not nervous yet but I'm sure that tomorrow my nerves will hit me. Thank you everyone for your support.
My clear liquid days were not that bad I kept my goal in mind when cooking for my family then last night I baked a cake for my niece. I did not cheat on my clear liquid days.
I will report back tomorrow as soon as I can.

I'm alive and kicking! Surgery about 19 hours ago and I've already walked a few times and peed :-). The pain is starting to kick in, do not be a "hero", use the meds! No liquids so far, but I asked for a washcloth to keep my mouth hydrated and clean. Heating pad and lip-balm are lifesavers!
Going back to sleep. Thanks for the support octosleevers!

I wasn't referring to you when I made the reply about lumping. That was someone else. We are good.
While I don't agree with everything you said, I do agree with your sentiment about obsessing and I appreciate your willingness to speak your mind and not make it personal when things get heated.
We need more people around here who aren't scared of a healthy debate. I hope you stick around. Your outlook on things will likely change in a few months. In what way I cannot say, but for me the more I read this forum the more my view of obesity and weight loss surgery has changed. I thought everyone here was in the same boat as me, now I know we are all not even in the same ocean.

I don't know how you guys ate solid food so early! I am 4 weeks postop and it hurts to eat ground turkey.
Plus, I'm the kind of person that buys a bag of chocolate to have one piece a day and end up eating the whole bag. Once I break the "rules" I have a real hard time getting back on track (speaking preop here). With that being said, I eased into soft food while on the blended diet, adding things slowly. I still have not tried real chicken or anything "bad". I think it's best for me to take it slow. To each his own .

@butterthebean Believe it or not, I sooo agree with all you write.. I know I'm a newbie FOR SURE! I know it sounds down right righteous to some. It wasn't my intention nor point. My theme was to indeed KNOW yourself and we are all different.. And soo many posts like licking the cheese off the dorito or chewing and spitting.. That sort of thing (ALOT OF IT ON HERE) is what I am referring to! I know I may have issues. When I do, I'll scale back! You are also so right about the food addictions, etc. My psych visit caught all of that (and the recent comments about alcohol and cross addictions). I know for ME, I have no alcohol addiction. Others need to be honest.. Re food addictions, yep, I think all of us have them.. My point wasn't to cave into whims. Junk food indeed got me here.. Or bad choices... I am working on changing that and only time will honestly tell. I don't think I'm enabling anyone, because my point was have the ONE dorito! but, if yuo are the type who can't handle that (only you know that), then don't do it! It works for me.. Same for the 2 pretzels. Etc. So, yes, I do agree with your points and that's why I love this forum!

This is the first time i have had a chance to post, but I was sleeved on Monday morning and everything is going well! I was the second surgery in because the lady before me had a few more complications and they wanted to have a little extra time with her if needed. I saw the surgeon before going in and he praised me about my 50 pound loss that I had acheived on my pre-op diet. 50 pounds!! I was so impressed with myself that I just have to say this: If I can do it, so can you!! I have faith in everyone here.
I was only in the hospital one night, I have been managing pain really well and I just sleep a lot. Gas pains were gone mostly after the walks that I had to take. Ice was A-Maz-Ing! and now I am just trying to keep up with fluids otherwise. I have one incision that hurts, but the others are pretty well painless. I am just gonna be hanging around my house for the next few days, then I am going to start walking around the block to get my activity level up. It feels good to be on the "other side" and I am looking forward to the rest of you making it there, too!! I wish you all luck and hope and all the good energy I can muster! You GOT this!

Done did it! Surgery done at 10. Had to stay in RR until 2 due to a bed shortage. I am in my room now, been sleeping since I got here. The Roxicat knocks me on my butt. Pain is ok. Just in upper left abdomen. Feels Like the stitches pain you get after running fast. Drinking 30 cc Water every 15 minutes while awake. No nausea at all. Exvept for the being so sleepy and the tolerable pain, i feel pretty good. So far so good !

Hi Octosleevers, yesterday was a ruff day. My BP was up. I do not have a BP problem. It was my body's reaction to the pain. I am much better on day 3 than day 2. Going home today!
Good luck to all those being sleeved today.

Another October 1st sleeved checking in... Surgery was at about 1:30pm yesterday and surgery itself went well.howver, ihav had the absolutely worst nausea since I woke up. And this morning I got a terrible headache. I haven't been able to sip my little cups of Water or tea because of the nausea. It seems to have subsided some now and I am working on second little cup of water. Headache is still here though. Hoping to go home tomorrow but that will all depends on whether or of I can get my water in or not.

Hello everyone, just checking in from my hospital bed. Surgery went really really well! I'm so glad I did this. I went in at 1130. A few mins before I had a good cry but the nurses and doctors talked me through it. Went into the OR and my surgeon said "just relax and have a good sleep". They had trouble finding a vein for IV but they found one. Then they put a mask on with oxygen and soon the medicine. When I woke up around 3 in the recovery room all I remember saying is "I'm gonna puke I'm gonna puke". But the amazing nurses were on top of my nausea and pain. To be honest, the nausea was a bigger concern for me than the pain. Pain is very minimal. I would say 3/10. I have 8 incisions. Have been in an out of sleep but its good. My parents, brothers and boyfriend came in as soon as the surgeon called them and visited for a bit. Got up for my first walk at 8 which was nice. Incisions bled as I was getting up but again, the nurse was on top of it. I hope the next few days/weeks are as easy as this. Hope all of the other octosleevers an oct 2 sleevers had an experience as smooth as mine

Im also going to Mexico to have surgery, and im right in the middle of choosing a PCP. I am choosing a PCP that I like, AND that is supportive of my decision to get sleeved. Its much easier if your doc supports you in your choice to get WLS. They're much more likely to work with you regarding blood tests/labs, follow up etc....If i had a PCP that refused to order a blood test because I had surgery, I'd say, "screw you...time to get a new doc!" :-)
    Good luck!
