whelden mommy reacted to CCornell87 in No Fill...normal To Be Able To Eat Lots?
I got my band 8/20 and have no Fluid put in til next month. My Drs diet post op is week 1 liquid, week 2 mushies into soft foods, week 3/4 soft introducing solids as tolerated. Im almost to week 3 and Im actually able to eat most anything. (I've found a few soft foods that don't agree yet, so I steer clear.) I stick to mushies mostly, lots of low fat cottage cheese and really soft scrambled eggs. Had one instance with eggs where i probably ate too many and it hurt for awhile. I was also able to eat a small enchilada with some cheese and a soggy corn tortilla today with refried Beans. Ok, so not the healthiest of choices but went down just fine no issues coming back up. Here's my problem - I had a conversation with my boss who is a yr and a half post op and she has me super freaked out. Her surgeon required 6 weeks liquid diet post op and pre filled her band with 3ccs at time of surgery. I can eat so much compared to normal newbies (1-1.5 cup) before i feel resistance of any kind... But she made me feel like i am doing terrible and i caused damage already from eating solid food already! Im having some difficulty breaking old habits ya, but i felt I was doing much better. I just hate feeling like i could have possibly done damage or something...Ahh!! Am I normal to be able to eat this much food still? (with no fills yet) Do most surgeons require a much longer liquid diet? Could I have caused damage the couple times I ate too much because its so early? I've been super careful and am definitely sticking to the more liquidy kinds of foods til I get the reassurance about what's normal and the expectations. I was so prepared prior to surgery, but i feel like I've forgotten everything I spent months studying for!

Could it be that you are hungry. I have been banded since Aug 6th, and when I was 2 weeks liquids after surgery, I would feel nauseous when it was time for my next shake. Only you know if this true. I would eat 2oz of greek vanilla non fat yogurt or low fat small curd cottage cheese. in between if I felt hungry but it was too soon for my shake. The yogurt and the cottage cheese is high in Protein.
Hope this helps, and feel better.

Your Pregnant! hahah.. sorry.. just kidding!
It's probably your hunger talking.. you might not think so.. but that was the same for me right after surgery.

weighing yourself after surgery is just (silly). all the fluids they gave you, are you surprised? am i ? no. not really. dont worry about weighing yourself for a few more weeks. you need to focus on getting healthy and getting well. i expect you to follow what the dr's said to do. (or you are grounded little girl)...
as for the click, nope, never heard of that one. i am sure its fine but call the dr (anytime you have concerns) just to ease your mind.
again, congrats on the surgery. dont stress losing weight. you are now recovering from major surgery. good to hear from you

Good Morning All.
Hope all is having a great morning. I have am feeling good and would have to say I am so shocked I am not feeling as hungry as I thought I would so glad about that. When I do feel a little hungry I eat SF popsicle and drink a bottle of Water and I am fine.
Today I put my lil chunky monkey in her stroller (well my mom helped cuz i cant lift her) and we went walkin. We walked for almost an hour and didnt realize it but I felt good and no pain at all. So hopefully when I go for my wk follow up on Monday I would have lost a few pounds, but if not I will NOT let that discourage me in getting this weight off just means I will have to work a little harder.
Have a Blessed Day

whelden mommy reacted to Sojourner in Tomorrow I Can Start Eating Again But
Your concerns are normal...but as others have mentioned eating with smart food choices and in the right sized portions will be the keys to your weight loss success. If you follow the rules, you will loose weight. The band is very self empowering, as your perseverance and complying with your diet will determine your weight loss.
You should be aware of your daily Protein goal, and strive to meet it every day. If you have too little Protein, you will slow your weight loss. If you have too few calories, then you will also stall your weight loss.
You will need to do some experimenting to identify what types of exercise, and understand the proper food choices that will work for you, and be compliant with the portion sizes recommended by your surgeon to be successful with your weight loss.
I've been advised to never count calories, only to make wise food choices and to measure my portions. Every surgeon will have slightly different diet requirements, so it's always a good idea to begin with understanding and following your surgeon's recommendations.
Best wishes...

whelden mommy reacted to dquoiya in 2Nd Fill And 5Cc's Later I Feel Strange
Yes you are tooooo tight. This happend to me a few weeks ago when I was at 5.5 and I waited 2 days to see if the swelling would go down and after sliming and not being able to drink anything I went back to my doctor he took .5 out and I instantly felt better. I was able to drink warter and I cant tell you how good that felt. I was so tight that i could not swollow my slavia and had to pull over in my car on the freeway several times throught out the day to get spit it out ( TMI) I know. Please do yourself a favor and go see your doctor for an unfill, a small unfill can make all the diffrence in the world no amount of weight loss is worth feeling this way. Also as a side note i went and got my 5th fill yesterday he put .4 for at total of 5.4 and I feel great its not to tight at all. So just because you are tight at one number doesnt mean you will be that way forever thats the beauty of the band it works with you if you work with it and I think i am in the green zone YIPPIE.

whelden mommy reacted to DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! in Need Some Feed Back......it Important Question To Me
I would definitely keep the December date if I were in your shoes. By 6 weeks post op you'll be off all restrictions and back on solid food. You'll also be feeling totally normal and recovered physically. You won't have any problems at the Super Bowl.
Best wishes to you.

I took a 5 weeks off work because I could and needed a vacation anyway to take care of me. I was on a plane to Florida 3 weeks after surgery for a friends wedding wearing a swim suit and playing in the ocean. I had soreness still but not any real pain. You should be fine good luck and it would be nice if the Cowboys went to the superbowl If they do I will see you there. Best wishes.

whelden mommy reacted to brlgirl in Need Some Feed Back......it Important Question To Me
I think by 6 weeks you should be feeling good. I went to work 4 days after surgery and was exhausted but did ok. I also had a hernia repair so I was able to tell people about that if my belly started to hurt...I felt that telling them about the hernia was ok...but I have only told 2 of my coworkers.
At 6 weeks you should be back into the groove and able to have fun. As far as explaining your new eating habits you can simply say that you are being more midful of what you eat. I think that you will have so much fun that no one will notice that you aren't eating as much! )

whelden mommy reacted to NurseShay in Need Some Feed Back......it Important Question To Me
I have not told many people about my band to this day and its been over 2 yrs for me so keeping the band a bit of a secret isn't so hard. I explained my 3 days of sick leave (combined with my normal 2 off days) as having hiatal hernia repair-- which my doc did do at the time of banding, so I consider it not a lie but an ommitance . At 6 weeks out you will not be in any acute pain from the surgery itself that would be noticable to anyone but you. Some sensitivity at the port site is a possibility but as long as no one plans to hit ya in the abdomen you should be fine there. However with the idea of having a week to recover, everyone is different. IMO you should be fine as I was back to work after a week- on my feet but avoiding heavy lifting again, understood by my boss as the s/e of hernia repair. But your ability to do this depends on your pain tolerance how fast you heal. The wonderful gas pains you may have read about diminished completely by about 2 weeks out. I believe at 6 weeks I was already eating pretty normal food, but in smaller portions, not because I had ANY restriction but because I was trying to stick to my doc's diet plan but I could eat ALOT more if I tried. Also I celebrated my bday 3 weeks after banding and was able to eat in a restaurant with ppl without incident and no one questioned my diminished appetite. Smaller portions is something that will be typical for the entire time you're banded, getting progressively stricter as you gain restriction so if you're afraid to eat small portions in front of people in 6 weeks you're going to have a rough next few years anyways-- so might as well get them use to the idea of seeing you refuse those big stadium size portions!! In the begining I just told people who questioned my eating habit changes that "I am on a diet". Seeing my progressive weight loss people just equated it to my previously mentioned "diet". I think saying nothing at all and having massive weight loss suddenly is what would lead to suspicion and questions. The main drag you will deal with early on at the superbowl will probably be the inability to drink beer, if thats at all an issue, but again its something you would be giving up anyways no matter when you're banded so doing it earlier or later won't change a thing. Something I have learned is putting off the band, fills or other associated weight loss interventions is a sign that I am not fully committed and need to regain my focus on my ultimate goal. I have in the past purposely rescheduled fills when I knew I planned to go out with friends and eat or Celebrate and knew if I got a fill I would be tight and unable to eat or drink "normal" and in doing so I was usually disappointed after the event when my weight loss hadn't progressed or worse yet I had gained. So if you find yourself doing things like this try to evaluate your reasons and decide if they are beneficial to your goal or if they are one of the habits that have helped cause your need for the lapband in the first place? Also, before starting this journey, as for some it is not as easy and straight forward as it is for others, be ready to put YOURSELF first and do what's best for you and let everyone else and other events in life take the backseat for a while, at least until you've adjusted to your new lifestyle being banded. Change your perspective on how food impacts you daily life and social situations. Don't stress over the band and the changes you will be making in terms of life or other people, this is a time that should be about you-- sometimes its OK to be self absorbed. I would say go ahead with the band whenever YOU are READY. But 1 week back to work should be fine if you dont have to do much bending or lifting-- for me being busy was a curb to my appetite returning in full force a week post op. And 6 weeks out for superbowl, you are perfectly healed enough to watch a football game amoungst friends. Just keep in mind if you have to fly to the superbowl many people report tightness in the band after flying or even just walking to higher altitudes. So be mindful when you eat and drink no matter if its 6 weeks out or 12 weeks out from surgery. The band is temperamental and not always predictable. If you're worried about PBing in front of people avoid eating at the game, do NOT use a straw, no carbonated drinks and sip slowly, chew long. Talk more at the dinner table, move your food around and people usually don't notice that you're not eating much. Best of luck!!

whelden mommy reacted to SoccerMomma73 in Need Some Feed Back......it Important Question To Me
I had my band on Wednesday and went to work the following Monday. I'm on my feet all day too but no lifting or straining. The first 2 days I was pretty tired, by Wednesday (1 week post op) I was ready to roll....but also 6 weeks is fine for an appearance with friends, you'll just have to be careful, you can always say you've had a stomach bug or something.

whelden mommy reacted to Gigi_Girl in Need Some Feed Back......it Important Question To Me
You need the two weeks off from work so leave the date as is. You should be fine to get around.for the superbowl. At six weeks post op, you will be on a regular diet, but nutritious and small quantities. Keep ready to drink Protein in your room as a back up to make sure you get in your 64 grams. If you feel the diet options are not there with traditional football game food on the menu, you can always opt for a small grilled chicken salad. Remember, no bread, alcohol, or Desserts. If asked about your diet choices and quantities eaten, just say that eating healthier is your New Years Resolution.

whelden mommy reacted to ☠carolinagirl☠ in Gaining!?
our bander TMF would advise you not to worry about losing weight the first few weeks after surgery. i would strongly advise the same as in not focusing on weight. you are just recovering from major surgery. your body needs to heal. (even after two weeks).
please do not stress over weight loss or gain by getting on the scale at this time. you will drive yourself crazy. keep drinking and doing the mushies etc and then later on, worry about losing weight.
i know it is not what you want to hear but it is the truth and most banders go through this.
-
whelden mommy reacted to 2muchfun in Gaining!?
You should not be concerned with losing weight at this stage. Not until you receive enough fills to give you some restriction should you be concerned.
Having a band is no different than going on a diet before the band. Your weight is subject to daily or weekly fluctuations from reactions to types of food, sodium, medications, menstrual cycles etc. The quick weight we gain or lose is usually mostly water/fluids retained by the fat cells in our body.

well, whats done is done.
just dont do it again missy
the pre diet is to shrink your liver and get you ready for surgery.
you cant beat yourself up because we cant change what happened.
you are not a failure. you acknowledged what you did, you confronted it
and now you are moving past it. that to me says something.
new day.....new beginning and now you just do your best

whelden mommy reacted to Tsign36 in Newly Banded With A Question....
Hi everyone! I am 5 days post banding and ended up having hernia repair as well. I have a question and since no one but people who have been through this know how things "feel" I come to you all!
Everytime I take a drink or swallow anything, about a second or two after I feel a tightening in my chest that releases itself about a second later. Is this how it feels? Is it normal? Does this last as how it will always be? I dont' know the answers to these questions yet and the dr's answer all the technical questions but if you all can look back to when you were a few days out (and maybe the hernia is part of it) and let me know how it felt when you drank your Water or swallowed anything. I am on liquids right now. I am doing my best to sip but even when I take the smallest (or what that seems to me) sip I feel the tight feeling after and then a release.
Thanks in advance everyone!!
