Tashaplus3 got a reaction from labwalker in Considering a lap band - scared after reading this forum!
I disagree. I am 5 years out this month. I love my band. It keeps me in check. Most people that don’t like the band is because they don’t follow the rules. Of course there are medical issues that occur and it needs to be removed. I started at 225 and now I am down to 167. I am now a size 8-10. Kept it off for 5 years. I work out a lot and when I eat foods that I shouldn’t or too much food I pay the price. It reminds me NOT to do it again. It’s not a magic pill. It’s just a tool but you have to be nice to it.

I love my band. It keeps me in check. If I do something I am not supposed to, like eating too fast, too much, not chewing enough, bread or rice, I get a quick reminder as I run to the bathroom to throw up. I am 6 years out. Kept the weight off because to me it’s about portions and saying no to a couple of foods that I def can’t eat. I eat pretty much whatever I want but very little of it. That’s been fine for me. I also work out quite bit so those occasional “slider” foods are a non-issue. I realize that this is not the gold standard for weight loss surgery but it works well for me so far. Wouldn’t trade.

For those that have had the lap band and had it removed and got the sleeve or gastric bypass..... how is it working out? How different was it from the band in terms of your eating and when you know you’re full?

Hey everybody, been a long time since I have posted anything. I am 51 years old and 16 months out from my lap band surgery. I am at the Dr.'s goal, but not my personal goal. I started at 223 lbs. I am 5'6". I am down to 157 and would like to lose another 7-10. I currently wear a size 8 or 10. A size I never thought I would see again. I am very pleased with my lap band and have never regretted it for one second. Last Thursday, I had a Breast Lift, Augmentation, Fat Transfer, and liposuction of the stomach, hips, flanks, and back. The 66 lb weight loss left me with sagging boobs, and a muffin top. Not the look I was going to be happy with. I found a wonderful plastic surgeon in Boca Raton, Florida. The whole experience has been wonderful. Right now I look like a freak, wearing a compression girdle, and a not so sexy bra. I am bruised and battered. I gained 12 lbs of Fluid during the surgery but am down 5 today. I am still very bloated and I can see the pockets of Water under my skin. The pain has been moderate, but manageable. You have no idea how much you use your pectoral muscles! I am thankful that I did not have the Tummy Tuck. I really needed my abdominal muscles to lift myself up out of bed and to use the bathroom. I had a nurse stay with me the first 24 hours which was a really really smart idea. I may end up with a tummy tuck eventually but decided on the least invasive procedure, hoping that there is still some elasticity left in my skin. Today is my second follow up apt. Hopefully they will take off the tape that seems to be annoying me and perhaps the green light to go ahead and get another type of compression garment. I will post some before and after pictures when I get back from my apt today. They aren't too pretty, but I do see a light!

lately large burps...! and if I try to continue to eat it feels like what I did eat wants to come back up, there has never been a day that I can't eat, but there are days that it has to be soft foods.. I know sometimes its a mental thing just used to eating and eating and I admit sometimes when I forget to take small bites I do tend to eat more, but boy do I feel it, my lapband sticks out like a golfball.

Had my first PB the other day. Wow. What a feeling. I was banded 2/20/2013. I am down 37 lbs and have had two fills. First fill was ok, noticed that I could not eat as much food and had some restriction. Had second fill 4 weeks later and what a difference. Lots of restriction and toddler size portions. Saturday I wolfed down carrots and hummus. Big mistake. I thought I chewed enough but I think I ate it too fast. For about 20 minutes I couldn't stop spitting. Such a weird feeling. I sat down and with no warning other than the slime, Water and chewed up carrots shot out of my mouth like a cannon. I am so glad this took place in my bedroom and in private. I can't imagine being out and this happening. Seems like now I feel less restriction then before. I am told that a fill can make you really swollen, so perhaps the swelling has gone down now? Second fill was two weeks ago. So maybe just a coincidence? Next fill is in four weeks. I've lost about 8lbs since my second fill. I have to say that I couldn't be happier with my band. So glad that I had it done. I am half way to my goal weight of 150.
