  2. The Opti-fast phase was the worst experience of all. Once you get through that (assuming no complications) so much easier. I only ate the bars and the Desserts as I do not like the shakes' date=' actually they make me gag. Once you get onto Clear liquids and mushies etc, you can atleast have flavour in your food.

Good luck with that..I dont have much advise other than it is just a phase to get through, and you will and from there it gets easier.[/quote']

I loveeeeee optifast- haha I must be strange! I can't wait to have it every morning!

  3. Yeah it's weird, my day 1 in hospital I was given to have - ice cream, custard, jelly, chicken creamy Soup, apple purée and orange juice. I think I dipped my finger in the Soup but couldnt down anything. I also have a cappacino which i only had about 5 sips and wasn't sure how my stomach was going to react with it.

I'm from Australia, and I know a lot of doctors only allow liquids for the first week or two. My dr said I was good to go the next day.and got discharge from hospital 24hrs after surgery.

I'm day 5 today am on purées for 4 weeks and then can start my soft diet.

You poor things. I feel lucky now!

  4. Hi ladies' date=' I'm on the gold coast, but getting sleeved in Brisbane hopefully very soon. As I don't have private health insurance it was going to cost me 17000 on the coast, however a surgeon in Brisbane does the sleeve in an intermediate basis so will only cost 12000 (only? Lol) I am just waiting on my super being approved....sent in on the 22nd June, can anyone tell me how long it took for them to get approved?[/quote']

Don't worry it's just money, you will gain happiness. I paid $9000 so I know exactually where your coming from plus a little :)

It's day 4 today and 8kg down already, I don't regret a thing, I am loving it, have a bit of an obsession jumping on the scales a million times a day. I really need to stop!

  5. I'm a Gold Coast crossfiter and am 3 days out from surgery, my doc said wait between 2-3 month, but start on 2kg, I couldn't stop laughing and replied 'my dead lift and back squat is 100kg'. Oh dear I hope I can hit big scores again and can't wait to get a bloody Kipping pull up,

How are you all going and how long has it taken you to get back?

  6. All the best with that' date=' I live in Sydney Australia, been married 18 years overweight basically since I was 18 years old battled up and down, and all I dream for now is to have this surgery so I can live again, I suffer from back pain knees have had it also , and I have an old Treadmill injury (Anckle) that won't go away so I've tried to exercise, but I mostly need this surgery for my children's sake I want to be able to move again and play with them, I have 5 wonderful kids and a loving husband who loves me for who I am, but I said to my family I need to do this for me.[/quote']

    Hey Lavea,

I'm 29 and was sleeved 18th July, I have always been big and struggled with weight. A day before my op the hospital rang and said I wasn't covered for the hospital gap, it was going to cost me $9000. I was completely shocked, it was my mums advice when I had rung her to ask for her opinion that made me say stuff it let's do it.

Mums words 'do you want to keep suffering and being depressed about your weight, who cares about the money, it's your happiness that you will gain'

So bring on the Sleeve and well done to all..

  7. Hi there' date='

I am Australian as well. Live in QLD.

Due on 15th in almanda private hospital in Gold Coast with dr Nolan. Tough time to go through preparing for surgery. I am going for sleeve, that was my choice. I didn't want to go for a band. Hope every thing is going fine with everybody. Great decision to take to change our life and gain ourselves back again. I know it will not be an easy trip, but Iam sure it worth it.

Good luck for everybody. And hope we can keep n touch[/quote']

    Hi Amany,

I was sleeved on 18th July Almanda too but with Dr Liew. How are you going?

It's day 3 for me and it's going great, I'm not too sore just have trouble sleeping right through in the night.

    Hope your doing well.

  8. Hey! I'm in Melbourne! Thanks for sharing your story!

I take nexium every night before bed' date=' surgeon said for the first 3 months.

Hope your recovery is quick! I'm 3 and a bit weeks out and 12 kilos down. 103 to 91!

    Cheers

  9. Hi angie pang- well done you! Good luck in your journey. I'm at a similar weight as you' date=' and you are one of the few on here who I see work in kg's too! Join our July sleevers thread or our fb group if you like- lots of us there for support!

What kinds of Protein shakes are available in Oz? I'm interested as I may visit a pal in Geelong sometime soon.

I've been following an Australian girl on tumblr who has had an amazing VSG journey- her blog is really fascinating. Her tumblr name is treadmillionaire if you're interested.

    Welcome to the losers bench![/quote']

Thanks Smoggy, I will defiantly join the group. I had a look at treadmillionaire...wow amasing! She has reassured me that I wont have trouble getting back into crossfit. I wasnt sure how my energy levels would be. She looks fabulous.

I'm taking 'optifast' shakes at the moment, available at any chemist. The chocolate and coffee flavours are the best.

I'm on the Gold Coast so if you ever come past, give me a shout.
