There is someone bound to be out there that has had a sleeve that long as that's about the timeframe that the sleeve was starting to be used. However, FINDING someone that's had it that's active on the forum is going to be a pickle.
They were few and far between way back then and the proceedure started out using a much larger boughie (resulting in a larger sleeve size), so apples won't be the same apples in the comparison.
HOWEVER, there are scads of people who have had their stomachs removed entirely or greatly reduced in size due to health issues like ulcers or cancer, and they are all doing fine. Do a search on Google about stomach removal. I remember reading about several families who have ALL had their stomachs removed due to a double genetic whammy left them all almost certainly to get a rare stomach cacer. One family I think was here in the USA, anohter was like in Romania or a Slavik country. They were getting on fine decades after the surgery.
I also seem to remember soldiers from the US civil war getting stomach wounds and having their stomachs removed. If they could survive the primative surgery and live to tell about it something must be working right.
I personally am 1+ years out and despite a few bouts of kidney stones becasue of dehydration I have had no real ill effects from the surgery.

Sorry to hear about your discomfort. About 1 week after my surgery I started vomiting everyday until I was dehydrated. Went to ER 2 times and was given IV fluids and CT scans, no leaks. Still continued to vomit, no abdominal pain. Went to my PCP and was told to go to ER. Went to a different ER again more labs and scans.( 3rd visit was the charm) No leaks, but found out gallbladder was shot and as a result of the gallstones I had pancretitis (sp). During the removal of my gallblader it was discovered the surgeon that performed my VSG knicked my liver and it was bleeding. I stayed in the hospital for 3 weeks. I was told the liver would heal itself. Long story short, it may be your gallbladder. I was also told I had gastric erosion . RX for gastric reflux/erosion and was treated in hospital by IV with Protonix to heal the erosion. It has been a long road to recovery, but I am getting there. Ask your DR if it could be your gall bladder. I never put vomiting every day with gallstones and pancretitis. And I sure didnt know my liver was bleeding. I will ask the DR when I go back for my follow up about long term affects to my liver. Take care of yourself and keep going back to the ER until they find out why you cant keep anything down. I have been out the hospital for about 2 week and I can now drink water/fluids without vomiting. So hopefully you will soon find out why you cant keep anything down and put a end to your discomfort.

Rainy Girl, I was going to ask how you were feeling & think I copied your post in error.
I defiantly feel your symptoms cuz I have them too. I still drink out of a 2oz glass& I can barely get Water down. I got out of the hospital today & see a GI specialist next week. Take care!

Ive spoken to my dr and ive even been hospitalized for dehydration and they also did an endoscopy while i was there...smh but i still feel horrible my stomach is always queasy and im alwayyyyyys nauseous

I'm six days out too and it is reflux, I hiccup and burp like never before then once I take my reflux meds I'm all better ;(. Atleast for a little bit.

Hey all. I'm recovering nicely. Just not hungry for liquids but sipping regularly. I keep thinking of what id like to be able to eat. It is torture. I still have some periodic discomfort not sure if its gas or reflux as I had neither in painful amounts prior to surgery. I'll continue gas ex stripes and milk of magnesia and prilosec till it all resides. Prayers and well wishes to all. Ready for mushies!!!

This is a prayer that my friend sent to me the night before I had my surgery. She made me promise her that I would say it the day of surgery. I actually was so caught up in everything that I didn't but I did say it the night before and my own personal one right before the surgery. I just wanted to share it in case there's anyone who needs some comfort. Have a nice day. And good luck to everyone who has their surgery today. ????

Please know that coordinators are a form of sales representatives and they get paid based on the revenue they create. The coordinators ethics should be questioned not necessarily the Dr himself. Research, research, research. Do not be swayed by hearsay. They talked badly about Jesus and he traveled about doing good for 33 years. Not comparing Dr Kelly to C.J. but saying the premise is the same. Peace and blessings to all

Just.did.my.first. 2 laps in a row. Leak test went ok so now had first food. Definitely dont have much of an appetite.
Gas still hurts a bit feel better than yesterday though.
Wishing next week would hurry up and get here. Can't wait to get home and get clearance to go swimming, then I'm really gonna start rocking.

Ladies! I was in your shows less that 3 weeks ago and let me tell you! I was miserable!!! I even considered cancelling because the pre-op was so dang hard. I survived by adding Mio to my Water and eating SF Jello to trick my brain into thinking I was eating. I even froze it to have "ice cream". No one said this would be easy and how dare the nay-sayers say we took the easy way out! Be proud and be good! It will pay off!!!

Ok so I started my two week diet and all I can think about is eating wth I knew this wasn't going to be easy i wants this for so long and finally 2 weeks away and I'm having such a hard time

Stick with it. He will either be there for the finished product or not. If he loves u, he will support u in your choice. My husband is the same as urs and works out daily although he is not jealous, he never was even in my smaller stages, so divorce is not happening here just sum more sexy time, comfortably! Lol

Dr Garcia and staff are all beyond any expectations. I've never been so cared for by medical professionals.
I have ZERO pain except for gas pain in my shoulder.

I'm still in the hospital, was sleeved about 18 hours ago- quite a bit of pain at first but not at all as bad as I thought it would be. The meds are helping and I'm going for a swallow test shortly. Then I can sip Water and walk some more. Saluting you all from the losers bench!

Hey Mizzliz....I've got sleep apnea as well (gotta love that sexy mask!). From what my dr said its more dangerous if it's undiagnosed before surgery, then they don't know to treat or watch out for certain things....I wasn't too worried because I had it when my gallbladder was removed with no issues, but any concerns definitely ak your dr....
