Claiming costs on your tax return

Yes I am in Canada and I have done this twice and am going to do it again for 2015 taxes. I believe you get 20% back. They will also re-assess you so you will send in your receipt and any supporting documents.

    Bypass vs sleeve

Your stomach does NOT remain whole. You have a little pouch that is made. The difference between GB and the sleeve is with GB they leave the remaining larger part of your stomach attached while with the sleeve it is removed(normally 85% is removed). I wouldn't want any newbies to miss understand what you are saying. Yes, indeed. Nevertheless, your whole stomach remains inside your body. Albeit, divided in two. Unlike having more than half removed from your body. That is what I said..................................again way more than half, normally 85%.

Things I Didn't Know Before Weight Loss Surgery

Long post but interesting read. I definitely suggest to STOP talking to your co-workers! It is really none of their business, as co-workers what you do that is not related to work, this includes what you eat and how much you exercise. When you talk to them about it you are opening the door for comments; both negative and positive.

3+ years post op having lots of issues need feedback

I think your symptoms seem very serious to me(unlike James' post). Severe pain after eating and pain in your stomach doesn't sound normal. Maybe it is due to the hernia? I haven't heard of any others with this issue. Definitely consult with your surgeon, hopefully you have confidence in his abilities with WLS patients. I wish you the best.

please share the microwave in a cup protein recipe

So I just made my pumpkin spice mug cake delicious!! One other psoter mentioned she used sugar free pudding mix so I put in a little of that, I use Syntrax Nectar protein powders which are delicious, baking powder, 1/4 cup canned pumpkin, lots of spices and I use coconut milk to moisten. The pudding mix made it much softer that making a cake without it. Will definitely use it again.

What does hunger feel like now?

My surgery was September 4, 2015 and I am never hungry. In the mornings sometimes I feel weak and I know that I need to have breakfast. The rest of the day I eat because I have to and always check my tracker to make sure I have eaten enough for the day. FYI: early on stomach grumbling is probably your stomach healing not hunger pains. When I now have a drink and my system is empty I can actually feel/hear the liquid moving through my tummy and intestines, NEAT!!

    small complaint about my body

I personally think the BMI chart is a bunch of whoooey too! I currently weight 162 pounds. I am 5' 10" and as cowgirljane says your rib cage doesn't get smaller. You can see and feel my chest bones, you can certainly feel my spine, hip bones, shoulder bones and the like. Supposedly my BMI states I could weight as low as 124 pounds!! Are you freakin' kidding me?? I find I look nice and slim where I currently am oh and I wear a size 6 pant(some are loose on me) size small medium top. Still shooting to lose 2 more pounds but then that's it for me!!!!
  10. I had my GB in Tijuana in September and exactly no leaving your house for appointments! Email, facebook will be your tools. I used Bariatric Pal surgeon Dr Zavalza and he is amazing!! Please PM me if you have any questions. I would use him again in a heartbeat. You have amazing support and are never alone. I can contact the surgeon anytime and he will always respond(via facebook).
  11. It doesn't sound like you are wearing a post PS compression garment; you should be. I wore my for 6 weeks 24/7 after my surgery. It helps to adhere the skin back into place and definitely helps with swelling. I am very surprised that your PS does not recommend this.
  12. Yes I do think you are eating too much and not having enough Protein probably in the form of a shake. Drop the applesauce no protein here. Laughing cow cheese are good however they do not contain a lot of protein for the size of the wedge. You probably shouldn't be consuming more than 2-3 ounces of pureed food at a time. You are not healed yet from surgery so your stomach is not yet able to give full signals. Start having meal shakes and 2 ounce food snacks; no need to rush this process you will be doing it for the rest of your life. Oh at this stage I could barely eat one scrambled egg.

    Getting enough calories

okay so something just doesn't add up..........you are eating all of those foods and you are still losing weight? this just doesn't make any sense. Instead of drinking water you could easily drink 3 premier protien shakes a day and that's alone is 480 calories. I just don't beleive you are eating all of those high/fat caloric foods and still losing weight. You can not possibly be eating any type of quantity for it to count. A quarter cup of anything and you would probably still lose weight. You stated that you don't care to eat and don't think about it.................I do beleive that you are NOT eating. Honestly it doesn't take much of higher calorie foods to make up 1200 calories. If you are eating 1800 calories how are you still losing? Sounds to me like you have some sort of health issue/disease that has nothing to do with surgery. Ask your doctor to start doing some testing to find out what it may be; This could be your answer.
  14. Only time will tell how successful all of those who have had the sleeve will be. I personally don't think it will accomplish significant weight loss in those who have say more than 50 pounds to lose. I speak from experience; had the ridiculous lapband in 2007, partially successful with the sleeve in 2012 and reached my goal(2 more pounds to lose) with the bypass in 2015. I find I have a much better restriction with the bypass and have had zero issues with the bypass part. I too initially was worried about the intestinal bypass portion but some days I wonder if it actually was done!!('Cause I have no issues!). I too wish I had gone right to the bypass but I guess it just wasn't what I needed to do at the time. One other plus about the bypass is your inability or intentional support form your surgery to refrain from eating SUGAR and only eating complex carbs. I have a fear from what could happen if I have sugar so now sugary foods actually repulse me!! Who knew! I also have never had a dumping session and hope to never have one. You will do the best thing for you, good luck!

    Veterans

Post op 11 years from what surgery? So you had surgery when you were 17 years old? We really need alot more information; activity level, food consumption, medications....................................................

    Protein and Herbalife

I did Herbalife years ago and from what I remember it does have high carbs and contains that bad fat for(hydrogenized oh I can't think of the full name)you. I wouldn't recommend it.
  17. Wow I can see how upsetting this can be, I am really sorry. Now that it is done go forward, shake yourself off and work the weight loss tool you now have! Did he re-do your sleeve for you? Hopefully your stomach is nice and small. You WILL lose weight no question! Don't even think of another surgery; everything happens for a reason and I beleive this can be a positive one for you!

    Learning my pouch...question

Measure out all of the food you are going to eat. This way if you know that 3 ounces is what you should be having you can't eat too much as you have already measured out your portion.

    Made to Crave (book)

I just ordered it now. I am only 2 pounds from my goal weight and fear maintenance as I have never been successful before. I hope this book will help me stay the course. Thanks for posting.

    Eating popcorn

So I will play the devils advocate here; popcorn made low cal is a very healthy snack. I do beleive I would wait until you can consume say crackers, broccoli, lettuce foods that take more to digest. I do not think it would at all hinder your weight loss. Check with your doc but 6 months seems like a safe bet; a year I think that is pushing it you would be able to eat ANTHING by a year out!

    Belly Bra?

Try shapewear it will have much more control or a really firm, old school girdle like garment. This would do the trick.
  22. To the previous poster she JUST had the intestinal portion NOT the sleeve portion so her stomach remains it's actual size. I think in time you will need the sleeve portion otherwise your large stomach will continue to hold copious amounts of food.
  23. to me it sounds like you were not ready for your surgery. But unfortunately, too late now. Maybe journaling some positive reasons why you had the surgery in the first place; I bet you have a large list of positive reasons. It certainly doesn't get easier as the further you are along the more variety of foods you will be able to eat thus making it possible that you won't reach your weight loss goal.

    Fruits

How about no sugar added applesauce? I love it!
  25. We need calcium but it is the magnesium that helps with the leg cramps.
