Fear of eating out and dumping

I am 6.5 months out and have not had any dumping at all. I am travelling next week and I also am nervous about what I will find to eat. I eat low carb, I don't add fat to my food and really have maybe eaten out twice since my surgery. I am trying to pre-plan restaurants that I can go too and am bringing along some protein bars/snacks and plan on going to a grocery store to by little things like yogurt/cottage cheese/tuna/hard boiled eggs/peanut butter for breakfasts and lunch.

Here I go again... need to get it together.

You know that the old adage "eat less, move more" is just that old. It is more about what you are eating not how much. I have just started reading "fat chance" by Dr Robert Lustig. So far the talk is about too much sugar, in any form! You CAN and will get the 25 pounds off! You have done it before, you can do it again. One day at a time, never trade what you want the most for what you want at the moment!!
  3. As others have all said if you have reflux DS will not cure it. Your stomach stays the same the only thing that changes is the re-routing of your intestines. Personally I went from VSG to GB in September 2015 and haven't looked back. I had also considered DS but am so glad I revised to the GB. I have had no issues with dumping at all. I beleive I needed the smaller stomach created with the GB and the malabsorptive part in the bypass. As said definitely ask your surgeon what he suggests but if you have reflux only answer is GB.

    Protein Only

During my major weight loss phase I ate predominantly high protein foods: fish, turkey, chicken, cottage cheese, yogurt and cheeses. I did start to eat small quantities of non-starchy vegetables. I also have started to eat beans now but did not during weight loss, as you said chili is very high in carbs. Be careful eating pasta, rice and bread. I have found that carbs do create cravings and if I indulge in say too much potato; well I just want more! I don't eat bread pasta or rice and don't plan on it.

    Pouch stretch?

Actually your pouch does not stretch. There is a great you tube video from Dr Matthew Weiner an obesity doctor in Michigan. It is hard to explain but over time your body relaxes and starts to accept more food, not sure if this is correctly explained the video will help. I am just over 6 months and can eat more too, more as the day goes on. I recently stopped taking a medication and since then feel that it has increased. I always measure/weigh my food and track what I eat.

Almost 1 year since my gastric bypass

Wow you look fantastic!! Congratulations on your success.
  8. That's too funny because with all of my weight loss my osteoarthritis has actually gotten worse. I am in constant pain everyday, I guess without the fat for cushioning well maybe this has something to do with it.

    Awesome I did it!

I did it!!! I reached my goal weight this morning!! I can't tell you how successful I feel!! About my journey; started in 2007 at 300 pounds and had lapband surgically placed on June 27. I actually gained 20 pounds during my pre-op phase(so embarrassed to say this). Lost down to 260 pounds and that's where it ended. Vomited a lot, couldn't eat many healthy foods resorted to eating slider foods. Fast forward to 2012; I lost my job, moved to a new city, life was on a downward spiral. Then something happened; I was somehow guided to this site! Life changing experience and how grateful I am. Within 6 weeks of finding this site I found a surgeon in Tijuana Mexico and had gastric sleeve surgery on September 10, 2012. The best thing I could have done at the time. Weight loss came off fairly quickly but I also learned very soon out that I could eat anything, fat, sugar, sliders and the like. I know surgery is a tool but at the time I didn't realize I needed a greater tool. I didn't initially go with the gastric bypass because I was afraid of the intestinal re-routing. So weight gain started; Christmas came and I thought I could handle eating a little of this and a little of that; I was wrong. So 2015 and I want to reach my goal weight; 160 pounds. I want to live the rest of my days at a normal healthy weight. Through Bariatric Pal I found my amazing surgeon, Dr Zavalza and had my gastric bypass on September 4, 2015 at 203.6 pounds(started pre-op at 212.7). Here I am at my goal weight, 160 pounds, down 52.7 this time around. I DID IT!! The gastric bypass for me if different from the sleeve. I have really good restriction, I really don't have cravings, I now have an aversion to sugar, I can't eat anything and I have no issues with the re-routing part my labs are good and I take all of my required Vitamins daily. Here are things that I do differently to make me a huge success this time around; I know that there are foods that are trigger foods for me that I should never eat again so I have found healthy substitutes for them that I enjoy. I don't eat bread, Pasta or rice(I gave up a long time ago) but again if I chose have found alternatives that I can have. I also enjoy fruits(limited), vegetables and healthy carbs(squashes, sweet potato) and of course Protein. I track all of my food intake and drink all of my Water. I also have found exercise that I enjoy doing and have made it a daily routine. I love myself and all of my size 6 clothing that I look fantastic in! Now on to maintenance; I will keep doing what I am doing and enjoy what life brings!!

Eating more than the surgeon recommends

    :huh:deleted
  12. Just a couple of observations: don't use food as a reward, two treats a week are not needed, drop the sweets for good! you might want to try an anti-depressant, wellbutrin does not promote weight gain, possibly loss. what did you eat to lose the 75 pounds? Sounds like you need to go back to this eating plan. finally the truth, stop making excuses and start using your DS to help you lose your weight you can do this just make a plan and stick with it.

    Band to Bypass Approved!

Congratulations! I started with the band too and made a pit stop with the sleeve. Having GB well what can I say I now know why they say it is the Cadillac of surgeries! I have great restriction with GB I don't eat pasta, rice or bread. I get full so easily on protein and a little veggie and yes I can eat chicken! With the band I couldn't really eat anything; I call it my $16,000.00 souvenir!. I have no desire to eat sugar and I guess the fear of dumping also helps though I was never a sugar addict. I also have no issues with vitamin intake, I thought that it would be a struggle but I have a routine in the mornings and take them everyday. I wish you the best of luck and I know you will be successful!
  14. 26 weeks out today and I still can not eat raw veggies, they don't sit with me very well. I love all coooked ones though. I have tried a few fruits, love berries and apples but have not had any acidic ones; grapefruit/oranges. Going to Orlando in a few weeks so I think I will give it a go then!

    Constipation Help?

I have to take a stool softener everyday, Colace(250mg) one in the morning before I eat; sometimes two. If I really still am having issues I take milk of magnesia. For me if I take too much(but not dosage related)of some preparations it constipates me. I have tried natural(herbal) remedies also and they constipate me, I have to be very careful.

Gastric Bypass Surgery Ruined My Life

Right now you are mourning a DEATH the death of the strong relationship you had with food. You can't eat like you did and may never(hopefully) be able to again. You know what your aunt and Mom went through; and you chose to have the surgery. What is done, is done. Move forward with a positive attitude and use your surgery as the great tool that it is to seek a healthier, and yes happier life. Be an adult. suck it up and DO IT!! You know that you can.

    What Is Your Biggest Fear?

Not so much a fear as a concern as time goes by. How will my tiny stomach react to medications I may need to take, will I get an ulcer, what would happen if this did happen...............a big concern and I hope that I will be fine well into my 90's!!

    Biotin Dosage

I am taking 10,000 units and have lost a lot of hair. It has just finally stopped. I had been taking biotin for over a year. I don't think it really helps to prevent hair loss. I have just researched collagen and have ordered a powdered form that you add to water(easy to consume). It does sound like it should help based on what collegen does for the body.
