  1. I'm almost a year post op and I still get that pain every now and then. I have no idea what it is but it always goes away after a couple of mins. It hasn't bothered me enough to go to the surgeon and I highly doubt they would do anything anyways lol. I had the pain years before surgery and I usually just tuck my hand under my breast and apply a little pressure.
  2. Ordered bodymedia armband today! Super excited and impatiently waiting for its arrival

    does everybody lose hair?

I never lost hair! A good portion of people do but not everyone loses hair after surgery. I will be a year post op Oct 2nd. I don't think I did anything special but I did make sure to drink a protein shake everyday for breakfast and take my vitamins when I remembered. My hair is still thick and I haven't noticed any shedding out of the ordinary. I'm not saying these things will work for you but it's worth a try.

    Favorite love to hate exercise

Squats and lunges! Lunges more than squats but they both suck lol. My knees just feel very wobbly and I don't feel like I'm able to go low enough. I think my years of being back catcher for my high school softball team screwed my knees up :/

    serum protein level dropping

I was drinking protein shakes until I was about 7-8 months post op. At least drink 1 a day and my protein shake of choice was isopure because it's low in carbs and cals. My NUT told me at my 9 month appt to stop drinking shakes and I now rarely drink them. I can tell when I need protein because I crave it. The most important things for you to focus on is protein, water (fluids), and vitamins. I've been slacking on my vitamins and I can definitely tell when I need them because I feel very tired. Good Luck and definitely continue drinking your protein shakes
  6. I'm not sure when my taste became normal again but food does taste good as it always has. I become full quick and have great restriction at almost 1 yr post op.

Cant get protien or fluid in!

It will get better with time. I wasn't able to meet my goals until about 6 months post op and I sometimes still struggle but I try to eat every 2-3 hours. My advice to you is drink protein shakes! Protein shakes count towards my liquid goal and if you find them to be too thick then add water to them. Drinking liquids should start to get easier around 1 month post op but it will still be kind of hard. Also if you wake up during the night try and sip on some more water. Trust me it will get better

    fit bit and other trackers

I just ordered bodymedia link today! So excited. I've been using MFP for almost a month now with great success but I would like to see my calorie burn and since I have a iphone 4 I figured this would make for another cool gadget. I did own a bodybugg in the past but sold it soon after because I wasn't really counting cals. Unfortunately bodybugg doesn't sync with mfp, so bodymedia is a better deal anyways. Plus I'm sure the technology has come a long ways since the bodybugg I had in 2009.
  9. I have hypoglycemia and my blood sugar goes very low on a low carb diet. What is considered low carb is debatable because some people consider it 40g of carbs or less, whereas some body builders consider it less than 1g of carbs per pound of body weight. When I do try low carb I get very dizzy, irritable, anxious, insomnia, lethargic, etc. It doesn't go away with time and only gets worse and makes my life miserable. Plus my NUT says that low carb isn't healthy for people who battle with low blood sugar. I've had numerous times where I almost fainted, even while driving! Low carb is great for those who can still function perfectly on it but having sleeve surgery didn't just magically change me into a person who can now tolerate a life without carbs. Some will find that they can do low carb and others will find that they can't. If you struggle with high blood sugar low carb can be very beneficial but if you are like me and your blood sugar plummets after 3 hours without eating, then a moderate carb diet will probably be beneficial for you. Good Luck. Plus you also need to remember that this is for life. Pick something that you feel you can stick with and not just something that's temporary.

    Question for the ladies.....

I get cravings around ovulation and right before my period. I eat around 1200-1600 cals so I have plenty of wiggle room to fit in some sweets. With this calorie range I'm finding it easier not to abandon my diet during these times of heightened hunger.

Mine is "vsgjourney". My food diary is viewable to friends. I can't find my phone this second but I log every day and everything. I eat a balanced diet *unless I'm having cravings* lol

    Watermelon

I eat watermelon almost everyday. It's a great way to stay hydrated in the heat of summer. It's also low in calories and I find myself eating about 100 cals worth of it and that's more than enough.
  14. I drink 16oz before eating and it usually takes me about 30 mins. I will be a year out from surgery in October.
  15. If I'm thirsty and hungry at the same time I will always drink the large glass (16 oz) of water first. Sometimes I can't drink 30 mins after eating because I still have the food in my stomach and it does feel like it flushes the food out way faster. Definitely drink your water before the meal.
  16. Protein! Chicken, beef, etc. It keeps me full for a while. I also try to drink a large glass of water before my meal so that I'm not thirsty after finishing.

i shake like crazy between meals-help

I have those symptoms when I go too long without eating. I have to eat every 2-3 hours and at one point I did test my blood sugar during those shaky times because I wanted to see if it was really low blood sugar and sure enough it was a 49! Unfortunately my son has hypoglycemia also but thankfully my 2 girls and husband don't. I don't test my blood sugar anymore but I can definitely tell when I need to eat something. I eat a balanced diet with carbs, protein, and fats. I keep my carbs around 100-150g and that's what my NUT wants me to do. My NUT advises against low carb if you have hypoglycemia.

MFP for those who eat 1200+ calories

I'll be a year out from surgery in Oct and I eat 1200-1500 cals a day, well actually i started keeping track of cals about a week ago and have lost 4 pounds by eating in that calorie range. I will add you when I get a chance or you can add me "vsgjourney". It seems like most of MFP friends are eating less than 800 cals and I have no idea how they can do that because I feel like I'm going to die when I eat so few calories. ETA: My husband is on vacation for the next week so don't judge me on the vodka drinks lol
  19. Lost 4 pounds this week by eating between 1200-1500 cals a day :) Feels good to finally be back on track and motivated to shed these last 50 pounds and reach goal.

  20. When it comes to eating cold cereal on rare occasions I just mix about 3/4 cup of cereal and about 1/2 cup of milk and that works out fine because it's a small amount. When you have liquids with your food you become full faster. Soup and cereal is the only time that I have liquids with a meal. If I were to eat 3-4 oz of steak and try to drink I would more than likely puke and usually I have to wait about 45 mins after eating dense protein before drinking. I prefer drinking before my meal so that I'm well hydrated.
  21. I'm at the same place as you. I was sleeved early Oct and have only lost 55 pounds. I've been stalled for about 2 months now. I am trying to see the positive as I've never lost this much weight in my life. I think this is a normal plateau as my body gets ready to start the weight loss journey again. I've also come to realize that more than likely I will be one of those people who reach goal around the 2 yr mark and not the 6 month mark like I had hoped pre-op. I can't do low carb because of my hypoglycemia and will faint without a moderate carb diet. I will probably set up an appt with my NUT to get some more inspiration and words of encouragement because it is hard to be motivated when you're doing everything right and not reaping the rewards :/ Hang in there NGM, we can do this *HUGS*
  22. I had the one incision through my belly button and my surgeon used glue and after about a week the huge glob came out but I didn't see any fuss and the glue was mostly black from the dried up blood. I would definitely bring this up at my 2 week check up.
  23. I was looking into it about a month ago but I'm not even a year post op and I figured I didn't give the surgery long enough to work. I found most of my info by googling "vsg to DS" and found tons of info from people who've went down that route. The level of malabsorption scares me especially since I'm only 28 and plan to live for many years and this would mean tons of vitamins for at least the next 50 yrs. Good Luck with whatever you decide

Honestly, how much do you vomit?

I vomited several times while in the hospital after surgery because of the pain meds but since then I've only puked once and that was because I didn't eat enough food before taking my vitamin.
  25. Yup and that's the exact reason why I don't drink them. My headaches felt more like migraines though and I also get them from coffee. I can have a cup of coffee on rare occasions but if I drink it too often I start to get headaches. I drink plain water now and I don't eat foods that are labeled "low fat or sugar free" because they make me feel ill and crave more food.
