While there are plenty of reasons to not like the Affordable Care Act; i.e. it does not go nearly far enough in offering universal health care coverage to everyone, it continues to reward insurance corporations by giving them more business, and a single-payer, government sponsored health system would have been less expensive and better run in the long run...it is still better than what we have had previously.
I find it extremely sad that so many people have opted to hate something they have not really bothered to research simply because they hate the current president. (as evidenced by renaming the ACA "Obamacare" and throwing it around derisively, as though it were a plate of feces)
I don't know anything about CVS, but it seems to me that if they are "Opting in" on the ACA, that simply means they will accept new insurers into their programs...or, more realistically; they are going to be an accepted pharmacy in the insurance plans offered in the areas they have stores. How does that change their service to anyone?

Hello Everyone. I thought it might be a good time to post a before and after picture of my journey so far. I started my 3 week liquid diet on May 23, 2013, had my surgery on May 12, 2013. My starting weight was 360 pounds and as of today I am down to 263 pounds. For anyone who is struggling it can be done. I still have another 63 pounds to go before I hit my goal of 200 pounds. I know I have many challenges ahead but I now have the confidence to meet them head on. Thank you to everyone who has supported me on my journey so far.

I've made the first cut for a new position and the hiring committee is conducting interviews over the next two days. Because I'm currently overseas, I was offered two choices for the interview: conference call or Skype session.
Six months ago I'd have opted for the no-visual conference call, thinking it would up my chances of being selected if they couldn't see how overweight I was and just go by my professional qualifications.
But this time? I jumped on the chance to have the on-camera interview. Got my hair done, put on a great suit and jewelry, and feel confident that where I am weightwise will not dissuade the committee from pushing my candidacy forward.
NSV! Even if I don't make the next round, or if I decide the job/move isn't a good fit for me and my family, I've already won this one by turning on that camera.

I had a Board celebration to attend last night (we just completed a $1.2 million fundraiser to renovate the stage in the theater I am Board president of) and was going through my closet in some frustration yesterday morning. They've seen this, they've seen that, they've seen that one a hundred times...Then, at the very back of the closet, was a black sheath with a floral jacket that I hadn't worn in over 10 years! I didn't know I even still had the thing! It was my favorite dress for a long time, and I used to wear it when I was this weight before, so....maybe....
I tried on the jacket, and voila! It fit! I was so excited all day, I could hardly wait to get dressed up for the fete! I have to attend 2 or 3 very dressy events each year for this theater, and I have never felt "pretty" even though I'm dressed to the nines. Last night, I felt pretty and the compliments were just rolling in!
This morning I feel like I could go shopping...and I HATE shopping!

According to the ladies who do my fills, who each have bands, forever! Because it is sewn into the muscle, any time you work that muscle you will feel it in your port. Mine hurts mostly when I do Pilates now, but will also hurt if I eat too much. (being too full pushes on the Fluid in the band, which pushes back to the port?)
Anyway, you are normal. Not to worry!

I also support the ACA. You have the option to keep your employer insurance or go to the market place and replace it with another if you don't like yours. My insurance premiums have not gone up for this next year and we just completed open enrollment. Why shouldn't people have the opportunity to have health insurance. If you have it why shouldn't others. Like I said before I am tired of my property taxes going to local hospitals to the tune of 400.00 x how many homeowners live in Duval County for people who are uninsured to get their bills paid or for those who run to the ER for a broken finger nail and don't pay their bill. If you don't like what it represents and you choose not to get it then you cant blame others for wanting what they deserve to have. I have family members who had no insurance and also friends and they were happy to get affordable insurance now and be covered. So my kids should go without insurance because some of you don't approve. Well too bad because they deserves to have insurance. You want to cry because premiums and copays are going up well it has nothing to do with the ACA its insurance companies doing what they want. Its a business and every business raises prices every year. My son is covered and I am happy.

Not really following the goings on of this thread but Australia has universal healthcare and I can categorically say that if our government tried to dismantle it, there would be riots in the streets. Any politician that even BREATHES that they are looking at reducing Medicare coverage is crucified.
No idea what Obamacare is, but I can say that there are in fact countries that have universal healthcare where the people are happy with it. I sit in an income category which requires me to have insurance or I am penalised financially for it, but I had my time where I didn't earn as much and never once had to worry about getting medical care because I couldn't afford it. And my kids, who aren't insured, all hold Medicare cards (same as every other Australian) which provides them essential medical care as soon as they need it. I hope that never changes.

The government IS NOT PROVIDING HEALTH CARE PERIOD. Have you read what the Affordable heath care REALLY MEAN?
If you have a JOB, and currently have insurance through your employer, you don't NEED ObamaCare.
Some people have HORRIBLE insurance WITH their employer that don't cover enough and have to currently pay HIGH premiums.
ObamaCare will help those people that are low income but under insured, and can't afford insurance, or their employer don't offer great insurance, NOW with ObamaCare they can purchase insurance based on their income.
Before Obamacare was implemented..if someone did not have any health insurance with an employer, and if they wanted to purchase insurance privately on their own....insurance companies would deny them for pre existing conditions --- such as weight loss surgery, many people have been turned down for Life Insurance IF THEY HAD A LAP BAND if they purchased private insurance, NOW if they purchase private insurance from the Market Place, they can't be denied Life Insurance for Pre- existing conditions, or medical insurance for pre existing conditions..
This is one of the many benefits of Obamacare, insurance companies can no longer discriminate against you if you wanted to purchase your own insurance from the "market place" from this website
    https://www.healthcare.gov/
Did you know that insurance companies in the past has discriminated against people if you already had a Lap Band and wanted to purchase Life insurance? This is one of the many benefits of Obamacare IF you decide to purchase insurance from the Market Place.
Also think about --- every one in the US that owns a car MUST have Car insurance -- IT'S THE LAW, in the event you hit someone's car, or injure them.
Same should apply for healthcare -- many tax payers are sick and tired of picking up the tab from those who do not have insurance and use the ER as their healthcare and yes, tax payers have to pick up the tab. With Obamacare -- everyone WILL BE REQUIRED TO PAY FOR THEIR OWN MEDICAL CARE OR BE FINED, and the fine will not be much under $100.
Many people say that ObamaCare will make their current insurance go up -- ObamaCare has nothing to with that, YOUR insurance is going up based on the cost of upkeep and higher hospitalizations, and medical issues,
ALSO if you have insurance from your Employer, Obamacare has nothing to do with that, your Employer dictates how much your insurance costs and what they will pay for -- not the insurance company or Obamacare.

You may have already gathered this Missy, but we are never going to agree on this subject.
I am a proud supporter of the ACA and it is something that should have been done decades ago. I see a lot of FUD being spread, I'm not concerned. They want to raise my taxes to give health care to the poor? As long as they raise the taxes on the 1% I am good with it. Papa John's wants me to pay .50 more per pizza, so that they can afford to give their employees health care? Go for it, make it .75 cents and give them a better plan.
I have worked hard all my life, and I am willing to part with some of the results of that hard work so that those that are less fortunate than myself have a better life.

First of all, it was the insurance company that dropped you, not the ACA. While I understand you are between a rock and a hard spot right now, if Kentucky is participating in the open enrollment of ACA insurers, you should be able to shop the market of new carriers and pick up a policy that a) you can afford and will cover your needs.
If you end up having to pay for your fills out of pocket, negotiate a deal with your surgeon's office.
It is hard to function when you are in a panic. I hope you will be able to get what you need once you have had a chance to calm down.
