I received my approval in three days!

Tomorrow I start my one week of liquids and I have to say this is stressing me out more than the surgery itself! I work two jobs plus have a family. I can't imagine how I might feel and the thought of liquids only while still having to work and do all my normal things is freaking me out!

    January 2013 Sleevers?

I want to weigh about 150-160. This means I need to lose about 80 pounds. Wow, typing that makes me realize I will have a long way to go.

    January 2013 Sleevers?

I quit soda at the beginning of October cold turkey! Probably not the smartest thing to do considering my miserable headaches and 'tude I had! Just ask my husband. Haha! But I'm sure flag I did it and I lost SIX pounds the two weeks after quitting. The impending surgery is very exciting! Good luck to you. ????

    January 2013 Sleevers?

My surgery has been scheduled for January 30th. The doctors office originally wanted me to have surgery on December 17th but I wanted to wait until the new year for insurance purposes. Now my deductible will be paid in full for the rest of the year. I'm very excited and have told the few people I feel comfortable telling for now. Can't wait to read all the success stories. Good luck!
  7. You look 10 years younger! That is absolutely amazing. I went to see the surgeon absolutely positive that I wanted gastric banding until I watched a video about all the surgeries. I left KNOWING I was going to do the Sleeve. I am in the middle of my insurance process and have waves of elation and waves of fear all at the same time. I only have about 80-90 to lose but I can only imagine how great I will feel when I get there. Thank you so much for sharing.
  8. I'm going through the process now. They have decreased the supervised weight management from 6 months to 3 months. I'm just gathering all my info now. I have a BMI of 39% plus Diabetes and high cholesterol. Doctors office said it should be very easy to get approved. :-)
  9. Hi everyone! Was there a particular incident or emotion that helped you make the final decision to get the lap band surgery or was it just a culmination of a lot of different things that did it for you? I am in the process of approval and find myself waffling back and forth whether I am doing the right thing or not. Some days I am 100% sure and other days I can't seem to wrap my head around the fact that I may actually be going through with it. I know I need this. I am the type of person though that must do tons and tons of research and think and think and reason and discuss! Haha!
  10. Marci, my name is Marci too! How fun is that? Thank you for your post. It made me cry in the first paragraph. I'm sorry for all you have been through and even happier to see you are happy! It's refreshing to see so many people happy with their decisions. I wish you continued success.
  11. I think I am just afraid of the complications. I know it is a lifestyle change and I feel I am ready for that part of it. I'm just afraid of the unknown mostly. Does that make any sense?
  12. Thank you so much to everyone that replied! Reading all the replies and different reasons is very eye opening and also a learning experience. I was always the "thin one" compared to my friends and my sister growing up. I actually stayed thin until about 15 or so years ago. Nothing drastic in my life happened, I was married, working and everything seemed to be fine. I just started putting on weight. I am an emotional eater and being happy made me eat, being sad made me eat, any emotion made me eat. I also went from working two jobs on my feet the entire time to working a desk job. Big mistake!! Skip forward to now. I am 90 pounds overweight with Type 2 Diabetes and take medication for both Diabetes and Cholesterol. I did suffer from post partum depression and have been on Zoloft ever since. I am still happily married and have a 13 year old daughter who is already struggling with her weight. I gave her the choice to go to a fit camp this summer and she has done AMAZING! She has lost 10 pounds and 8 inches in her waist. She learned about portion control, good and bad foods, the downfalls to drinking sugary drinks, etc. She started an exercise program and she is doing really well. I was so scared for her. Didn't want her to grow up and be like me. Didn't want her to feel bad about herself like I do about myself. Other than myself, she is one of my main reasons for wanting to take off this weight. I want to live an active lifestyle with her that I cant necessarily do right now. Since the Diabetes diagnosis it's been heavily on my mind to have the Lap Band surgery. My husband and entire family and best friend are a super support system and stand behind any decision I ultimately make. I look at my mother who is at the very least 125 pounds overweight and my sister who is at the very least 150 pounds overweight and think that if I don't get this done now, I am going to spiral out of control. I am going to be 42 next month and only wish I had thought to do this 10 years ago. Seems like such a waste of years. I am going to continue on with this process. I will pray to be shown the right way. Thanks everyone so much for reading and responding to my thread.
  13. Hi everyone! My name is Marci and I am 41 years old. I have been overweight for about 15 years now. I need to take off about 90 pounds. Tried to get insurance approved for Lap Band surgery back in 2006/2007 and was denied. I have continued to gain weight since then and have also been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. Our insurance has since changed to Cigna and after speaking with them it looks like I will be able to easily get approved. The surgeons office called today and told me I have to go through 3 months of weight management. They thought that since I have checked in with my regular MD every month since my diabetes diagnosis and weighed in, that Cigna might approve that as the 3 months of weight management. (crossing my fingers on that one!) There is so much info online that I waiver back and forth with my decision to have this surgery. I want it. I want it really bad. I should have done it 10 years ago. I have wasted a good 10 years of life being fat!! Statistically it seems this surgery is very safe. I always seem to go back to the things I read online about the people who haven't been successful and have had this problem or that problem. I know this is just a tool. Everyone here is so positive. I think I just need to stay in this forum and stop reading all over the Internet. My surgeon is actually the surgeon who trains all the other surgeons in the state of Florida so I am sure I am in good hands.

    Starting The Process

I'm a lot like you. If someone says I can't, then I will. Haha! I really do want this. I am excited to see if Cigna will allow for my regular MD's weigh ins. That would be fantastic. I am hoping it all happens quick for me! I tend to see the glass as always half full instead of half empty so I can only see good things from here. :-)

    Cigna Questions

I'm doing major research for Cigna as well. I was told some Cigna plans require 6 mos and some require 3 mos. I am in the midst of getting everything together now for them. I am about 90 lbs overweight and was diagnosed last September with Type II diabetes. I am hoping that makes it easier for me to get coverage.

Dr. Thomas Bass - No Problems

I am going to a seminar for Dr. Bass this week. A friend of me had life saving gastric bypass from him and loved him. I am only looking for Lap Band.
