    5 Days Post Op

I survived on egg drop Soup (just the broth) the first 2 weeks. It was warm and new tummy loved it. Also, Fruit2O which gave a little flavor but not overwhelming. I personally think your weight loss is ok...many on here say the the higher your starting weight the faster you lose which makes sense. I felt the same way as you about the solids. Just be patient and it will be here before you know it. I did find that after I got the go ahead I surprisingly really wasn't all that interested. I wish you a speedy recovery!!
  2. Welcome! I am 38 and have two boys (13 & 9) and married for almost 17 years. I am 5 weeks post op and down 17 inches & almost 25 pounds since surgery. If there are any questions I can help you with please ask!! This has been the best decision for ME! I am so glad that I had it done. We will hit our 40's with a whole new lookout on life!!!!!

    10 Days Post-Op Need Advice

Yes, it is vey normal to fluctuate in weight from day to day. What matters is the long term progress. I know it is easy to think that since we were sleeved that we should lose everytime we get on the scale but in reality that doesn't usually happen. Sometimes, we retain fluids for the TOM, sodium from soups, not getting enough fluids, hormones, etc. As for the Protein issues...you might just want to try different things. I know if I wait too long to eat I get that same feeling so try to find a schedule that works for you. Just know as long as you follow your program the weight WILL come off. Just stay focused and realize that your weight will go up sometimes but in the end look at your overall loss and you will see great things!!

    Protein

The only thing I have heard about these Protein shots was that the ones containing collagen are not good. That information I found on this site. My dr & NUT told me only whey protein with less then 5 carbs. I use Premier Protein...I like it best very cold. Hopefully one of the experts will have more information...I will be 5 wks on Tuesday.

    Hi...am New Here :)

Welcome!! Nerves can be the worse before surgery....you will do great. You have already taken a big step towards improving your health and life! I was very nervous before mine (7/17)...it seemed to be all I could think of. Just focus on getting ready for when you come home. Clean out your closets, etc. Keep a journal preop and continue after. This was the BEST thing I ever did for myself. Good luck with the surgery & a speedy recovery!!

For Those Who Weigh Every Day -

I also usually weigh everyday but I do it on the Wii Fit. It charts my weight loss and BMI. I don't tend to get upset about gains because overall there is a continued loss & I have a easy way to keep track without having to write it down. I have to say I love watching the graph line going lower & lower!! The losses are very exciting and you have to take the occasional increase in stride until it starts dropping again. I do have to say now when I see it go up a bit it doesn't send me into a mood to eat because the scale made me upset & angry (even though I knew it wasn't the scale's fault ;-} but easier to be mad at it than myself - it is soo liberating not to feel like that now).
  8. @belaire30....It will get better (I know everyone says that ;-}). As soon as you can hit the mushy/soft foods. I made the Ricotta bake as one of my first things. You will find that once you are there foods will just be things you HAVE to eat for nutrition. It is a very strange feeling not to be hungry. Just hang on...it will be worth the "weight" once you see the progress!!!

Lose Weight By Stopping At Mcdonald's Once A Week

Thanks, that is what I thought!!

    Am I Alone!?!?!

Just saw your additional post. I am almost 5 weeks out and this was the first time I dreamed of food. I too have had no desire for food which is a very odd feeling...sorta of like having an out of body experience. My whole perspective on food has changed. We'll see how long the non interest in food lasts (hopefully for quite awhile....I love the weight loss though)

    Am I Alone!?!?!

Too funny...last night I dreamed I ate an entire french dip sandwich and thinking WOW how was I able to way the whole thing!! I woke up this am and had to actually think about if it really happened. Boy, the things your brain comes up with!!
  12. Since you've had your surgery...do you ever notice how MUCH all of those other people are eating!! I am keenly aware of this and think WOW did I use to way that much!!! I can say that all I thought about for 2 weeks post op was eating again but you will be surprised once they give you the go ahead it won't be such a present thought (%#@$ head hunger). I wish you luck but know you are strong and madge it through any temptations. I promise you as each situation presents itself you will feel more inner confidence about making this life change. Wishing you a continued speedy recovery.

Lose Weight By Stopping At Mcdonald's Once A Week

I thought the post was about renting RedBox movies at the McDonald's and walking there to pick up and returning them was a healthy thing. Maybe it is the benadryl kicking in and I misunderstood . OP can you please clarify??/

    Hello All

That is so strange. My actual surgery was $32,000 not including surgeon and anesthesia dr charges. Insurance only paid about $19,500 to the hospital because they are a preferred provider. That situation seems unusual. Did insurance say if you go to a different dr do you have to start the while process over?

    Hello All

Welcome! Was there a specific reason for them canceling your surgery?

    Getting That Vitamin Down

I use Centrum Chewables and just nibble it a little at a time - they are orange flavored and kind of like a little treat in the morning and at night. I was told chewable for 1 month but think I will stick with chewable for awhile. Vitamins tend to make me feel nauseous even pre-op. I have to have something on my stomach before chewing it up. Good luck with finding something that will work for you!

    2 Days Post Op

I just focused on hydration the first week. Your body is in total shock from your surgery. Just sip as often as you can. if your worried about dehydration just keep an eye on your urine color (the lighter the better). You are probably taking in more than you think. There will be not much of a chance of taking in all of the liquid and Protein the first week just due to your healing process. Next week you can focus on your protein but you could sip on Protein shakes which also count as liquid. When in doubt you can always call the nurse from your surgeon's office. Wishing you a speedy recovery!!

    No More Diet Coke!

You know I too was worried about caffeine withdrawal as well. I was a BIG Diet Wild Cherry Pepsi addict. I stopped drinking 2 days before surgery. After surgery, I held my breath everyday waiting for the severe headaches. But they never came. It has been 1 month since surgery and still no withdrawal. It seemed as if my body had more important things to worry about (Protein, liquids, etc). Hopefully, you will have a similar experience.

Hungry After A Couple Of Hours?

I'm sorry your having trouble. I just had my 1 month checkup and was told I'm supposed to eat every 2-3 hrs. Do you have access to a NUT? 30# is great...that is 10# a month!!! You might be having issues with acid...a lot of discussions on this site how it simulates hunger.
  20. I wore the gown the first night and but on my own comfy clothes the next day after my leak test before I went home (pants with an elastic waistband) I asked for an extra gown and put it on backwards (kind of like a robe) to walk the halls. Easier to wear the gown with all of the IV cords, leg compression machine, etc. Good luck on your surgery!!!

    They Fit!

Congrats to you!! Today is also my 1 month, we are sleeve twins!!!..I have also lost 20#. Don't you just LOVE the feeling of needing a smaller size. It is sooooo great & I'm sure you feel wonderful (I'm excited to wear some other things I found in the closet still with the tags on). Keep up the good work!!

    Psych Eval

My psych eval lasted about 45 min and we talked about the surgery, my relationship with food, plans for the future, etc. I didn't have to take any tests.

    Kettle Corn

I would love to have some Kettle Corn but popcorn scares me even for the future. I worry that one of the kernel pieces would get stuck in the healing suture line. Just something else to add to my list to ask the NUT on Tuesday for my 1 month checkup. You did get my taste buds going!!!

    Drainage Tubes

My dr gave me a 50/50 chance of a drain depending on how my tummy was doing after surgery. I woke up from surgery not needing one. Discuss this with your surgeon...he should be more than willing to answer all of your concerns. Good luck with your surgery!!
