You do tend to see the same questions over and over yes, but you can just move on by...or as I do sometimes, answer them and then say "hey there's a really good thread (or two) about this very thing, maybe you might like it. And it has a lot more information than I could give you"
And I POLITELY tell them where to find it..

I am really disheartened to see how many posts in this thread are focused on the veracity of the OP or fighting with each other rather than trying to address the problem she asked for help with.
As far as the ability consume more than the average sleever:
According to the research I have done in prep for my sleeve although most doctors use a bougie (with really small differences in size between each one) for width, someone who has a longer stomach will have a greater capacity. Further I was able to drink my juice and Jello and the only reason I left the broth was because of the taste 24 hours after my sleeve.
I had my surgery at a center of excellence by a well-known and respected surgeon, No leak tests done.
I was on full liquids including cream Soups as soon as I came home from hospital.
I never took any pain medicine after the first 24 hours when the pump came out.
I think the the posters who mentioned excess calories and Protein may be on to something. In addition if the OP went on a no carb liquid diet pre surgery and dropped weight ..then it is very likely when she started eating those excess calories and protein (and probably carbs) her body started hanging onto Water. Think Atkins diet.
Yesterday when I added up my calories I was in shock, I even remarked to my daughter that it was hard to believe I was sleeved.
I also have have a almost month stall and am refiguring calories, carbs etc..because of it.
I come here because you all are the experts on VSG...if we cannot get advice, support and understanding here I don't know where else one should go.
I assume everyone is honest and reaching out for help, if I am wrong, so what? It has cost me nothing.
OP I hope you keep posting and many people will try and help you work through this.

Great news! I only have to be under 500 My appointments start Thursday (medical exam, psychologist, exercise expert, and a nutritionist) but I will find out at my one month follow up scheduled for Feb 26th if I am all good for surgery, and thats when I should meet with a surgeon to set a date! Although I will not know for a month whether or not I am cleared, it still feels so quick!

Me too Too nervous to think straight at that point, lol. Of course I have the regret of not doing it sooner. Other than that, none.
With my family history, losing the weight was not an option. Since I was never successful (or at least with losing weight and keeping it off) the sleeve was the answer for me. I want to see my kids grow and not just be another member of my family to leave my kids too early. The odds of dying young were far greater without the sleeve than the risk of getting the sleeve. Other than the first couple rough days, I have tolerated the procedure well. I too have a rather hardy sleeve. The only thing I can't handle is pork, sooo I just eat other stuff. I am so very happy I decided to cough up the money and get the sleeve done

Yesterday was Day 21 and I did much better at work. I stood most of the day again and didn't have near as much pain as when I sat for long periods at a time. The steri strips are still well adhered to the TT incision. Both drain holes have healed over now and I don't have to tape on the gauze pads anymore. I was suppose to have my 3 week check-up yesterday but I cancelled the appointement until next Thursday as I am still trying to catch up at work and just don't need to be taking off another day so soon after taking off 12 days. The nurse said that I can start to wean myself off of wearing the binders. I asked her what she meant...stop for an hour a day or 2 or 3? She said most people don't feel comfortable without wearing them and it takes them awhile before they feel like they don't need them anymore. Not me!!!! It feels so much better without them! Today is the first day that I'm not wearing them and I'm at work and I feel a lot better!!!! I've already had two work associates come up to me this morning and tell me that I look like I've lost weight! One of them said I look like I've lost 20 lbs! OMG! The feeling is just so amazing to get compliments on my body! GETTING THE VSG AND TT WERE THE TWO BEST DECISIONS THAT I HAVE MADE IN MY LIFE THAT WAS JUST FOR "ME" IN A VERY LOOOOOONNNNNGGGGG TIME!

Wow...you folks manage to turn ANY question or conversation into an immature cliquey high school drama, don't you?
Why on earth was there any need to attack someone for volunteering their own experience? It does NOT matter if Dianne38 chooses to eat at McD's once in a while, or enjoy a doughnut. It also doesn't mean she's unhealthy or that she doesn't care about her body. Could she make better choices? Sure. So could almost every American out there, obese or not.
These things are an ingrained part of our culture and if she can use moderation and enjoy them it's her choice. I'd criticize her if she were hopping on here to complain that she's stalled and then shared that she's eating doughnuts and hamburgers. But really? The VERY first response to her was a sarcastic, overly critical snotty one.
No WONDER people don't want to post here. No WONDER people say VST has gotten too negative. And you accuse the lady that was just out-of-the-blue sniped at for sharing her experience of reacting harshly, instead of acknowledging that people here are acting like a bunch of children.
Pathetic. And things I've read about certain people here never having a single positive thing to say seem to ring true - outside of their own little posse of like-minded sharp-tongued people, that is.

I use self tanners and love them. The newer ones are not like the 80's orange ones. Lol
I do go to a tanning salon and use the mystic spray tan.it stays on longer and looks very nice. I go maybe twice a month, when doing it. I haven't gone in a couple of months.
The at-home versions are the l'oreal sublime bronze gel. You can see where you put it and looks very good. I love it. I just can't get to my back.
The jergens for the face is great, also.
    Hope this helps.

I think this kind of story (and the opinions which are interjected) is THE reason that many people perceive WLS as the easy way out. Many people have replied and compared the risk of WLS to the risk of having a life saving heart procedure, etc. When an individual is morbidly obese and can not fully enjoy life, they need a life saving procedure. These individuals are willing, aptly so, to take the risk. Without the risk, there is no benefit and no reward. And life would continue to pass by. An individual would never refuse to have a life saving heart procedure nor would those with opinions so harshly discourage surgery to fix the heart problem. So why do people feel so strongly about persuading those who are considering WLS to try another, less invasive and ineffective route. Would you encourage your loved one to try the same heart mediation that has not helped in the past? And watch them die? I think people need to be more understanding that if it were as easy as you say, why do we have an obesity epidemic? And why are so many looking towards WLS as a tool through which they gain their life back? food for thought; pun intended.

There is absolutely nothing useful or constructive in this entire thread.
I'm sorry the OP's sister has had a terrible experience, but I also realize this is a post by someone that did not choose to have the sleeve and who has no first hand experience to relate.
I think it's a bit ridiculous to implore strangers on the internet to change their minds entirely about surgery based upon one experience. I think the approach taken was wrong in that respect. Sharing information is one thing. Scare mongering is another. But what's the big deal in the end, really?
Look - I appreciate every single person that comes to VST to report their negative experiences. Because people researching surgery sometimes don't understand what complications can arise, even when they're clearly listed and every surgeon should cover them in detail. Heck, ten minutes of your time on VST could outline every single possible negative experience or side effect you could possibly have if you bother to do the search. Most people don't, but then most people undergoing surgery are so "eyes on the prize" that they completely disregard any risks as things that simply won't happen to them.
So people that are either post op and had a great experience should not take it personally when someone relates their PERSONAL negative experience here. It's not our job to defend the entire surgery. Some surgeons stink and shouldn't operate and sometimes complications happen even with great surgeons. The people doing research have a right to know about the good and the bad.
But much the same way I get peeved when I read an anti-Mexico surgery rant by someone that's never had a surgery in Mexico, I don't weight posts by people that haven't personally undergone surgery as heavily as I would a personal account. Sorry, that's just the way it is.
My sympathies to the OP's family because seeing a family member struggle isn't easy or fun for anyone.
Everyone else should really chill out and stop making this into an argument. There's nothing to argue about. OP says don't have surgery, lots of people love the surgery, whatever. VST is about sharing our vast breadth of experiences and that goes for positive as well as negative. There's nothing to be offended about when someone has a bad experience.

    (1) I confess I don't understand the concept of myself as 'not' being that "fat girl with the cute face". Can I really be seen as anything else?!
    (2) I confess that I am slightly obsessed with the "next size down". When I was an 18 I always tried to squeeze into 16s. Now that I'm a 6/8, why am I disappointed that the next size down doesn't fit??!
    (3) I confess that sometimes I'm really lonely, and that losing 85 lbs hasn't taken that feeling away
    (4) I confess that I have no idea how to handle/date the opposite sex now. It's a different ball game and no one sent me the instructions!
    (5) I confess that I wish sometimes that the world was "clothing optional" so I could show off the new bod. Kidding!!!! But I do enjoy going out just for the game of being looked at. I remember the day 8-9 months ago when I would dread just going to the grocery store because I didn't want to be seen

    1) I have only told my wife, kids, mother-in-law, and 1 of my brothers. Everyone else that asks, thinks I'm working with a nutritionist that has me on a tailored diet and exercise plan.
    2) my parents have no idea that I've had this surgery
    3) I don't miss my fat clothes because let's face it, fat people are just supposed to hide in their homes and not go in public, so why should there be fashionable choices for us?
    4) I still weight 270, but I feel like a sexy beast now
    5) I need to do more strength training because I realized I'm not as strong as I thought, I just had really good leverage. Lol. Can't move things with just my weight anymore.
