~*~ Melissa ~*~ got a reaction from Annie04 in Dating Post-Sleeve (advice needed!)
I was sleeved on July 19, 2012 in Mexico and it was the best decision I ever made, a decision I would make again even knowing the severe complications I had (i.e. losing my ability to walk).
It has been 9 months and I have lost 130 pounds, being less than 20 lbs away from my ultimate goal of weighing in at 150 (happily accepting further pounds off). I decided to give online dating a try now that I possess this thing called confidence and am overall happy with myself. I met a wonderful man who I enjoy conversing with, as he is exactly my type- has a healthy lifestyle, smart, driven, loves sports, etc. He has seen pictures posted, despite being a tad heavier in each photo compared to where I'm at today. He shared a skeleton today that involved him getting a DUI in the past. This is something that doesn't phase me as long as the lesson has been learned and drinking has slowed since the college years, which he states it has. I shared that I have lost much weight and plan on keeping it off, never sharing that I was sleeved as I would prefer telling him to his face, allowing me to see his reaction in person.
For those who were single when sleeved and now in a relationship, how did you share the news? Do you consider it a 'skeleton' in the closet? Even though I know it was the best decision for me, I fear he may not understand despite him sharing that he strives to live a healthy life since obesity runs in his family.
Any suggestions? While I look and feel great in clothes, I still have small rolls and saggy skin which has me thinking of surgery in summer 2014 on the areas I am unable to tighten through exercise alone.

I went to Mexico and am extremely happy with my decision. I had my surgery done I. Tijuana with Dr. Almanza. The staff was very nice and took great care of everyone... better care than I received in US hospitals. They shared stories and many laughs.
The surgery was $4,500. I flew into San Diego and was picked up by the staff and taken across the border- about a 20 minute drive to the clinic. They took blood, did an EKG, and we went in order of BMI. There were 8 others there with me from the US getting the surgery done which was nice. Met friends and it made time fly by, especially when we would go out shopping at night.
The clinic holds a dinner cruise each year for patients to come back and show off their sexy selves
Lastly, my surgery was checked out by a US surgeon and the doc said it looks better than some of his colleagues work. Yay!!

You ate 4 ounces in the hospital following surgery!?!? I'm six months out and can only eat 2.5-3.5 ounces. Goes for broth as well. Odd

so its basic knowledge that 600-800 calories a day is NOT enough to sustain basic functions when you are exerting that much energy...
I started StrongLifts a couple of weeks ago... Im NOT increasing weights after every workout as instructed though, only increasing once a week....so for now Im OK and should be OK for a few weeks... HOWEVER, by the end of February I dont know what Im going to do...
Im obviously going to need more than 800 calories a day to be able to fuel my everyday life plus workouts HOWEVER at this point I still have 70 pounds to lose... my ultimate goal is do to 2 triathlons in late Spring...
I dont get into all of that TDEE, BMR stuff.... but I am concerned that my weightloss ( my paramount concern) will me hampered by my secondary yet equally important concern of building muscle mass & strength
    Advice??

~*~ Melissa ~*~ got a reaction from *Dean* in I fu@#ed up today
It's okay- we're human and I'm sure we all will have our days.
Last week, I decided to go out with my family not knowing the restaurant of choice. It ended up being Chinese. Even though I know veggie dishes were better options, I decided to give noodles a try, ordering Shrimp Lo Mein (just reached six months post-op). I highly enjoyed all the veggies and shrimp but allowed myself to have some noodles (was very strict with myself) so I wouldn't jump off the deep end and eat something worse or even triple the amount of a slider food. Even after feeling guilty for days, I increased my workouts for the week and am looking at 6-8 pounds gone this week. I know we all fear going back to our old selves but you have to remember that life is short and we only live once. So allow yourself to have a Danish once a month, maybe even splitting it with that coworker of yours.
Congrats on all your hard work thus far

What was the final thing that you encountered that made you say this is enough? I have had numerous.
    1. Leaving a wife and 2 sons, Husbandless and fatherless.
    2. Not being able to get on amusement park rides with my sons.
    3. Not being able to take my wife to a concert, because i could not fit in a seat.
    4. Avoiding restuarant, movie theaters and sports complexes with tiny seats.
For me, walking through a a department store and some little child looking at me like im a alien had to be one the hardest things.
    Respectfully,
    Joe

GREAT question! I wondered the same thing myself when going through the journey. Protein is number one- I usually order fajitas because I enjoy all the fixings without the bread. My mom says she benefits as well because we usually split an entree since I only eat around 3 ounces. She has been losing weight and is happy to share portions

Never experienced anything with Water since I squirt small amounts of water in my mouth frequently, however I did have one experience within the first couple months where I drank too much milk too fast and it came up. Now that I'm farther out, I can handle everything much better. I'm sure you could up chuck water if too much is taken too fast

My daughter had surgery a month before I did, and she has lost 100lbs, and hasn't had an appreciable change in clothing size. I have lost 71lbs, and gone from a 22/24 to a 16. She has lost more weight, and I have lost more inches. Bodies are all so different.

I, as well, regretted the surgery due to complications with dehydration. I am over 5 months out and down roughly 110 pounds. Despite the hospital stays and becoming so weak that I lost the ability to walk, this process taught me much about myself. I am walking now thanks to positive motivation and confidence... two things I never had post-op. I honestly would go through everything again in a heartbeat.
Congrats on your progress thus far!

Same exact experience for me! My parent's took the family out when I was 7-10 days post-op and I didn't want to miss the gathering. I had the broth of my chicken noodle Soup (less than a cup). Wow, was I full or what. Then I smiled and laughed because before the sleeve, I would have ate a bowl of the tortilla soup, dinner entree and drank at least 3 cups of Pepsi. Never felt so good leaving a restaurant

Came through the TT just fine at 7am and in the car to go home at 12:30. The actual surgery was 4hours long. I'm hurting real bad but still not one painkiller. Doc doesn't want me to take the painkillers until it's absolutely necessary. I take extra strength Tylenol and Celebrex. My back is killing me because I have to lay on it with neck flat on bed and no pillows until he removes the drain tubes. I can't wait to see the results! Thank you all for your support!
