I never quit before surgery but cut way back on the amount. My surgeon fussed a bit but I told him that I could not give up 2 things at once, food and cigs, unless he wanted a mental case on his hands. I was not being overly dramatic, I am an anxious person and have the occasional panic attacks to where I think I am literally dying. I tried chantix, had an allergic reaction to it so thats a no go. It also made me crave the strangest things. Anyway, I do intend to completely quit by one year post op, but not because a doc says to, because I want to. Good luck to you!

I was sleeved June 11th, and I never quit. It does increase healing time, increase the risk of ulcers, and for me, increases the rate at which I get heartburn. Don't get me wrong, I did try to quit for surgery, but it just didn't work out for me. I'm still trying to quit, but it's the hardest thing I've ever tried to do. I wish you luck in giving it up. We made the choice to have surgery to be healthy, so smoking is kind of negating that choice.

Quitting smoking was one of the hardest things I did, I hope you both have success giving it up. I know what helped me not do it was talk about how badly I wanted to do it.
Really weird I know but try it?
Your becoming healthy with your weightloss and now is the perfect time to quit so try whatever means you can!
Your both in my thoughts!! Keep trying

Everything is going well, the only issues I'm having is increased bp and blood sugars, I think it all related to stress though. I don't remember a thing about surgery. I woke up with a cather in and a jp drain. I have a pca for pain and zofran for nausea, to my suprise I've only been mildly nauseated and no vomitting! Don't have any gas pains yet! My Incision were closed with glue, therefore, I can take a shower right away. So far so good, will keep you all posted.

Schedule for 3 weeks for medical leave of absence. Now everybody is asking me what's going on? Finally the pressure got to much to bare, so I confessed "I'm having WLS" to my surprise everyone was very supportive, there even throwing me last meal carry in

I didn't weigh in front of my husband EVER. Then I made the decision to have the surgery--he was already a sleever and was thrilled that I decided to do it, too. I still didn't weigh in front of him. I was getting onto the table to be rolled into surgery when HE suggested that maybe I should weigh so I would know my "before" weight. I hopped on right then---306 the morning of surgery. That's the first and only time pre-surgery that I weighed in front of him. Now, it's a morning ritual to update each other on our weight--it's a fun, flirty thing we do. I tease him that I'm trying to stay 25 pounds under him (we're super close in height with me at 6'2-1/2" and him at 6'3"--he says it's the other way around). But the point is, I don't mind now and it's become a point of celebration (among many).

You have to intake calories or burn reserves, etc. to get energy (metabolize). You do not have to exercise to get energy. Exercise at 2 weeks is a "bonus" not a requirement. Not exercising 2 weeks post-op is not linked to depression, that I've ever seen, or a behavioral reversion (at 2 weeks out, very few behaviors are actually changed anyway - it's still learning curve & adaptation time).
I don't mean to "argue" your advice. I'd just hate to have basic things like "where energy comes from" be misunderstood, or for statements like "if you don't exercise you will get depressed" be assumed as truth.

That good to know, I'm hoping this surgery has some positive effects on health, especially my diabetes. My mom passed away at the young age of 42 due to complications of diabetes. This is my true reason for wanting to have the surgery. I feel like a ticking bomb, if I don't intervene now! Thanks for your comment. Congrats on your weight-loss!
