The problem I've seen with the "kids" menu, in most restaurants, is that the options available are typically high fat, high carb meals. I'd much rather order from the regular menu, where I can make choices that are healthy, rather than smaller. I can always eat the left-overs the next day.

    Scotty,
I spend two hours at the gym every morning, doing an hour of cardio, and an hour of circuit training. I drink 8oz of Muscle Milk Light before the gym, and 8oz of Muscle Milk Light after the gym. That's 200 calories, and 30 grams of Protein, and acts as my Breakfast. I've been doing this for almost 5 months now, and it's working well for me.

Not to rain on your parade or anything...but....beware...your taste buds may change dramatically after your surgery has been performed. Many people (on this site) talk about this issue, and I've experienced it myself (I used to LOVE watermelon.....can't much stand the taste of it now ).

I have had moments of mourning....mourning the loss of oral enjoyment I used to get when eating, mostly. When something tasted really good to me, I loved the prolonged exposure (of those flavors) on my taste buds. I wanted the experience to go on forever, I guess. After surgery, I went through a period (of a couple weeks) during which I would eat just a little too much....becoming very uncomfortable...because my mouth just wasn't done tasting (if that makes any sense). Thankfully, I've moved past that. Now, I'm able to eat my handful of little bites...enough for my stomach to feel satisfied (not "full"...I try to avoid that feeling)...and my mouth (and brain) feel satisfied, too. Maybe my brain just learned that continuing to indulge in the oral enjoyment will lead to 2 hours of pure discomfort, and has retrained itself...I don't know. Even when I was in the throes of mourning, however, I never regretted having had my surgery.
I wish you the best in your journey.

I'm off over the summer, so I have the advantage of being able to track everything hourly. I use a "Diet Minder" journal, to track food, liquids, and exercise. For my food, I plan my day out, by the hour, the evening before...so I know what I need to be doing (eating, drinking, or taking meds) as the day progresses. I typically eat every 3 hours, give or take...whether its soft food (tuna fish, salmon, cottage cheese, etc), or a Protein Shake. In between, I'm drinking Water, hot tea, etc. This approach enables me to make sure I reach my Protein and liquid goals every day, and keeps my energy levels steady throughout the day. As for my meds, I have alarms set on my iPhone, so I'm reminded to take every supplement as directed. If I'm going to be out of the house during the day (when I would be needing to take my Calcium + Vit D tablets), I make sure to pack a couple in a ziploc bag to take with me. Also, I never leave the house without a bottle of Muscle Milk and 1 or 2 bottles of water in a little soft cooler, with ice packs. I never want to find myself in a situation where my energy is dropping, and I don't have a protein boost to tide me over til I can get home. Yes, it takes a little planning, but its well worth the security it brings, and knowing I'm getting everything I'm supposed to be getting (protein, water, meds, etc) makes me feel like I'm truly succeeding! Best of luck to you!

I think a number of things have been helpful for me...
    1. I go to the gym every day. Currently I'm doing an hour of Water aerobics one or two times a day, at least 6 days a week. As soon as my leg heals (muscular injury), I'll be adding back in an hour or two on the treadmill every day.
    2. I eat between 550 and 650 calories a day, with rare days over 700. (My capacity is increasing very slowly, and I make a point to not push it.)
    3. I make sure to get at least 80 grams of Protein every day. If that means I need to drink Muscle Milk, or eat Gelatein 20, in order to make the number, then I do that. Whatever it takes.
    4. I make sure to drink at least 80 ounces of liquid every day. No exceptions....even when I think I can't possibly swallow another drink of Water. I drink Decaf tea, decaf coffee, flavored water (sugar-free only), plain water, Protein drinks....whatever....I always have something liquid within reach.
    5. I keep my carb intake below 30 grams per day. I've been in ketosis for over 4 months now, burning fat to replace the missing carbs. I feel great, can't stand the taste of sweet or starchy things now, and am steadily losing weight.
Basically....I'm doing everything my surgeon/nutritionist told me to do. LOL

A conversion to RYGB is definitely possible...in fact, the "sleeve" procedure was originally done as a first step towards a more "severe" form of weight loss surgery, for those patients who needed to lose weight before having the second procedure. If you're truly convinced the sleeve isn't working for you, make an appointment to speak with your surgeon. Talk with him about your concerns, go over your approach with him, and your nutritionist (including exercise and diet), and see if RYGB is a better solution for you. There may be simple adjustments you can make, to your diet and exercise, that would net you better results, and would be worth trying, before going for the more involved procedure.
    I wish you the best,

Abbie...we could be twins! I'm just a hair under 6', my highest weight (in March of this year) was 354. Day of surgery I was 302.4. Current weight (10 weeks post-op) is 258.6. My goal weight is 180! I actually commented on someone's post the other day.....she said she was getting surgery, and was currently 180, hoping to get down to something I'll never see....I laughed and said simply "180 is my goal weight!" LOL I don't feel bad about it....I know that, at 180, I will be rockin' whatever I'm wearing!
This truly is an amazing....and completely individual...experience!!

IggyChic: I love you and I think that's the difference between how I perceive your posts and how others do - I read your posts like they're letters from a friend and others read them like they're letters from the IRS.
Original Poster: your profile says your surgeon was Dr. Stahl. Not that I care, but that wasn't one of the docs you listed. Hope everything works out ok.

Butterthebean...your post should be required reading for all people using this site! I will say, without judgement implied, that I am daily amazed by some of the things posted here...how long did you wait to have macaroni and cheese, or a milkshake, or to drink alcohol, or to smoke pot, or whatever other unhealthy thing you can imagine....and I wonder (usually to myself)..."Have you learned nothing about why you ended up needing this surgery??" Most of us had (and, I dare to say, still have) no real concept and understanding of "moderation.". We didn't track every bite we put in our mouths prior to surgery, so how can we know what is "moderate" in comparison? Without honest tracking, we rarely have a realistic impression of what was consumed (there have been amazing studies done on the disparities between what we "think we ate" versus what we actually ate!). Like you, I have made the conscious choice to not eat things that are harmful to me...to continue to do so, after having gone through the pain of surgery, makes absolutely no sense to me. While I understand I can't do anything to directly help anyone else on their journey (and I often get "smacked" on here for trying), I do sincerely worry for those who give every indication of not having changed their relationship with food.
Best of luck, to each of us, as we continue on our journey to better health!
