I have only had the lap band for 6 days so I know I can't answer most of your questions but I would recommend to start over! Tomorrow is a new day and make it a new day! Keep your head up and don't give up! Losing weight is a challenge but would you be able to keep it off with out the band? I wish you luck and i'm sorry your going through such hard time

I was on my pre-op before he called. But I was able to eat just little bit measured out. But now he wants nothing but liquid. I have faith I can do this. But ready for surgery to just get here already

I do Protein Shakes and it's just not enough. I even tried chicken broth and everything that I had pre-op that would make me full but for some reason i'm starving. I called my doctor and he told me to eat some yogurt and if I had to I could have some pureed food but not to over do it. But now i'm scared to even have pureed food because of me stretching my stomach this early on
Now clam cowder doesn't it have chunks, because that's my favorite Soup and I could live on that!!
o and good job on your guys weight lose!!!! makes me know I did the right decision!

Have you tried a Tomato Soup? Any time I restrict to only thin-soft liquids I revert to lots of Tomato Soup, OR the idahoan instant mash potatoes (extra Water to make them not as thick) and gatorade. That usually fills me up!! I know the mash potatoes aren't the healthiest, but if you are just having a small serving to take the edge off the craving, it's not the end of the world.

Why is it people on the outside only focus on how much you lose and not that the time right after surgery is for healing not loosing weight? Its like they expect the weight to just disappear. Yeah I would like that to, but thats not realistic. It tales time and life style change.

After lurking about on this site for awhile, this is my first post. I'm pleased to say that I've been approved for surgery on August 30th and would like to be added to the August roll call. WooHoo - I'm so excited! Thanks for sharing your stories. I've learned so much and look forward to continued suggestions and support.

Don't give up on yourself. Yes, yourself. You made the decision to get WLS, you jumped through all of the hoops. In hindsight, you may feel that you were not adequately prepared to live the life of a bandster. Now you know more than you did before. Now you have experienced how great it feels when those pounds are coming off.
I'm guessing that all of your reasons for originally getting the band are still present and still valid. So here's what I suggest you do. Suck it up and face up to a berating from your surgeon. Tell him/her that you are ready to recommit and you need their help and support.
Nothing that you have told us indicates an issue with the band that means it should be removed. You still have the opportunity to make this tool work for you. You are worth it. Give it another go !

5 days post-up and i feel wonderful! my husband and i went out today and walked the flea market and than we even went out and got tattoos afterwards. (our 1 yr is on September 3) I still am a little sore but not that much at all. I find my self still gassy i feel like a man with my burps and farts. Thatsn not usually like me to just let it all out but i cant help it. I slept in bed last night and it felt wonderful still using the heat pad but ive been awake for almost 11 hours and thats really good considering ive been doing nothing but sleeping! Also havent been taking an rx pain pills, been sticking to nothing but aleve. I even cleaned the house today.. with help from my husband and son. I just hope the days get better and better and i dont go down hill anymore. I hope everyone is doing good and if you are still having troubles remember there is light at the end of the tunnel!!!!

Hello all you August Banders. I just wanted to give a quick update to my status. I am right at 9 days post op and I feel great. My incisions are healing nicely and my port side has no pain. I am still struggeling with gas and bloating by the end of everyday. I have started to take the Gas-X in the morning prior to leaving for work. I have already lost roughly 11 - 13 lbs. My scale isn't very accurate. My post op appt is on Monday so I will give you the true numbers when I have them. My appetite has been almost non exsistant. I am getting in 2 shakes and a bottle of Water a day.
The first few days after the procedure were typical. There was pain in my abdominal area as well as in my chest. I had a hiatal hernia repaired with my lap band. The additional surgery caused me to have a deep pain in my chest. This all subsided within the first 3 days.
I had my procedure on 8/15 and I was at work 5 days later. The first day back at work was uncomfortable sitting up in an office chair for 8 hrs, but I managed. Today is then end of my 1st week back to work. I feel great. I did have some stomach pains last night. I think it was still gas. I got up and walked around and I (please pardon me.. started to pass gas) and then I felt better.
Good luck to everyone who is about to go in and everyone who has already gone it. This month marks the start of alot of journeys for all of us.

I felt a little better this morning. I ended up sleeping in a rocking chair last night and that helped. Having a hard time using the bathroom. I feel if I could just go I would be 100 xs better. Just taking my meds and relaxing as well as getting up and walking as much as I can. My husband is worried though because i'm sleeping alot and not hungry.

I am in the same boat. I'm not hungry so I know it's working and it's funny feeling so full after just drinking. But the pain sucks! Just the port site. I can deal with the gas pain. Keep in touch so we can see how each other is doing.

Take a moment, sometime before the surgery, and close your eyes. Remember all of the things that you might have done BEFORE. The food choices, the emotions you felt when you maybe might have eaten too much. Think about the times you were embarrassed about your clothes, finding a comfortable place to sit or a time when everyone else was ok and you were out of breath from a short walk.
Then I want you to push that away from you and remember that after tomorrow, everyday will be one day further from all those hurtful, maybe even unhappy times. And when you have a moment of doubt and you think that changing your habits is too hard on this journey (because you might just have those days!) say to yourself, " Nobody said it would be easy. They only said it would be worth it."
Good Luck and keep us posted.

I didn't cheat on my Pre surgery diet either. My Surgeon and nutritionist insist on a dinner of a lean Protein and vegtables or a frozen diet meal under 300 calorie for dinner and liquids the rest of the day. My surgery was text book and my liver was beautiful. I read some of these posts and I don't see the purpose of making someone feel horrible for making a mistake. I come from a place of pick yourself up and get right back on the correct diet. Being fat we have all been torn down our whole lives, so why not be supportive and encouraging. This is going to be a long slow process with mistakes. I say kudos to all of us for making the decision to have the surgery and make ourselves healthier!!

Y'know it's interesting, everyone is telling me to look into myself deeply and ask myself why psychologically I feel the need to EAT and cheat on my diet (which I barely did, but my diet is not liquids its just Atkins and early out i had a bite of something with carbs), but the fact is that, I'M HUNGRY! There's nothing deep about that! When i'm not eating right I simply have a MUCH BIGGER desire to pig out. And thats where (i sure hope) the band will help me. If i'm not starving myself trying to diet, i will be able to eat normal foods/portions.
I think that anyone who was able to go through their preop diets without cheating is really amazing!
But I also think that those who are truly struggling have lots of hope too

I am in the same boat as you! Today is my first day and i have 10 more to go after. My only thing is ive been really tired feeling i think its more mind over matter but just remember your not alone! But just think about how much better you will feel once the surgery is done and you start your new life. But what i did do today was i mixed some ice in with my Protein Shake and made kind of like a smoothy and slipped on it. It helped me through lunch. I also found that chewing one ice has helped me today. I still feel like i am eating almost and its good for you!

I am in the same boat. I am so scared! My date is August 21st. and i am trying to talk myself out of it. But i have my husband in the background as my cheerleader. I have had surgery before but the whole elective surgery is what started to scare me. We can do this though!

I know. My motivation is if I don't do this my health isn't going to get any better. Plus I want this so bad. 11 days isn't no time at all. today is day 1 I'm not hungry I just feel extra tired.
