Is anyone else getting scared and thinking of canceling the surgery? I'm schedule for Aug 10 and so afraid of making the wrong decision. The what ifs are killing me.

I am scheduled for 8/6/12 if the insurance approves it. I should have an answer by 7/31/12---no pre op diet required.

I chose this after seeing the long term issues with the band as well. In addition I am a wine collector and after I meet my goals, I will be able to drink wine again. It's a big part of our life (we are thinking of producing a Pinot noir) and it does not fit in well with the more extreme surgeries. I also am not heavy enough for the other version in my docs opinion. (less than 100 to lose).
I like the long term solution this offers. I have a six year old who has medical issues and needs his mommy. This was the best option to keep me around for his benefit (though I advise trying to get some help built into your budget for the first two weeks after surgery if your kids are small).

Hi, I chose the sleeve due to reading ahead and finding it had less complications. I too didn't want the digestive nutritional issues of a RNY or the left stomach inside. I like that the hormonal producing area would be gone. I was terrified prior to surgery due to some offhand remarks of my surgeon and his only having experience doing maybe 1/2 a dozen. So terrified, I had some breathing problems in the recovery area due to my high anxiety. But I knew he was used to stomach surgeries as he is a digestive tract surgeon and had done lots of stomach cancer removals etc. I did the surgery mainly for improved health reasons overall, with the side effect of good weight loss. It turned out fine. I have only had a couple of bouts of Constipation for 2 days each time, and I am out a little over a month. It is "newer" due to it being used recently as a primary weight loss procedure but has been around a looooong while as a pre surgery before RNY for extremely large folks. Recent medscape articles are saying the lap band is being less and less used in Europe and mainly only being done in USA now. There have been complications with the lapband. Lapbands are contraindicated for diabetics due to erosion issues. I didn't like the look of them or the idea of something that large, needing adjustments, using a port under the skin which needs a large needle insertion, inside of me. This has been a pleasure (the sleeve). I am looking forward to working with it as a good tool in health.Celtic

I watched a lot of YouTube video diaries and found that to be extremely helpful in helping me decide to go with the sleeve instead of the band.

Choosing the sleeve was best for me because I have a bad back and this allowed me to still be able to take my meds for my bad back. Also, I don't have diabetes, or any other serious health issues other than my BMI being 30. Well now 26. The recovery seems quicker. My friend had the gastric bypass and it took them six weeks to get back to normal and I only took me two weeks. I don't know.

The Sleeve wasn't my choice. When i went in for surgery it was for the RNY Bypass.
When i woke up my Surgeon told me that due to a large liver and some massive scar tissue in my abdomen from a hernia I had repaired in 2005 he decided to give me the sleeve rather than opening me fully up and performing an open surgery. Now that i have my sleeve. have found this site, and done my research on it, I think it's the best thing he could have done for me.

Not to sound like a broken record here, but I decided to have the sleeve for the same reasons as the others. It seemed like a comfortable "middle ground" between lap band and bypass. I didn't like the idea of a foreign object inside me and I really didn't like the idea of having my insides rerouted. I kept asking what would happen to the stomach after bypass, since it seemed it would just sit there doing nothing. And no one really gave me a straight answer.
    Good luck!

When I go out for dinner with my husband, we order everything "to share" one starter, one main and sometimes one dessert ( which he finishes all by himself). That way, no one can tell that I hardly eat anything.

Protien pudding... Do you like pudding? Make a box of suger free fat free pudding with skim milk and add 2 scoops of protien powder when mixing it up. TONS of protien in a small amount of pudding. It's an easy way to get the protien in.

This made me smile and tear up at the same time. You are such an inspiration to me just from what you have written here today.
I have not been sleeved yet, my day is July 9. I have been getting really nervous and almost having second thoughts just because I will be a different person inside and out. That scares the heck out of me. I haven't known that girl for a long time. I have so many "what if's" and they sound stupid if I say them outloud. I'm so ready to drop the discust, low-confidence and defeat just as you have.
You have no idea how your post has touch me, all I can say is thank you.....
Oh yeah!!!! congratulations to you and everything you have accomplished.

Okay... I can hardly believe that it's been 6 months already!!! Seems like only yesterday I couldn't fit into a booth at Texas Roadhouse, but it's actually been over 17 months... Feels like I was just complaining about how my dumb insurance company requires 6 month medically supervised diet... but that's been 12 months ago.. and then I met my Sleevina...
The past 6 months have been the most mentally engaging 26 and a half weeks of my life!!! It's been a challenge to get up each day and not be consumed by the RULES, but respecting them and not looking at them as BAD... but as parameters and boundaries that keep my Sleevina working optimally.... So, this journey is definitely not for the faint at heart or those who are seeking to somehow become whole after losing weight.. Wholeness comes from knowing yourself, outside of physical parameters and having the strength to work hard and change the things that aren't "meshing" with the real you.. Anyway.. here are my stats since I started this journey...
    HW: 384
    CW: 314
    Clothing sizes:
    Highest: 30/32-4X in everything
Current 20/22 - 1X (I still struggle to purchase them!!)
    Pre-surgery Shoe Size: 11WW
    Current: 10W
    Bra Size
    Pre- 48 DD
    Current- 42D
    Exercise Level:
Pre- Nonexistent due to back injury and poor left side dorsiflexion
Post- aqua aerobics, stationery bike, (ELLIPTICAL.. go figure), lots of walking
    Greatest SUCCESS to date:
I'm mentoring 2 young ladies that I met recently..One was sleeved 3 weeks ago, the other had RNY 5 weeks ago.. I get an opportunity to share my ups and downs, give encouragement and advice, PLUS receive it!! Through it all, I don't have any regrets...
Yesterday while biking away in the gym, this guy walks up to me and tells me I have enviable legs and calves... I laughed and said thanks... I wanted to say, please move so I can finish my workout.. This is an NSV because I love men and he was kind of cute.. but I wanted to finish strong and he was being a distraction!!! That's a huge step for me... I'm determined to put on blinders to all distractions, negativity, unhealthy weights (people, mindsets, attitudes, etc) and baggage that seeks to impede my journey towards my goals...They're not worth the time, energy and effort!! BUT I AM WORTH IT!!!
If you are at goals and in maintenance, congrats.. If you are still on the journey to goal, congrats and don't lose sight of it... remember everyday you get closer, if you make the right decisions...if you are a NEWBIE, welcome!!! Trust me it gets better!! And if you are comtemplating getting sleeved, don't hesitate.. but prepare to have your life totally altered in ways you can't imagine...Remember, you have to know that you are worth whatever dollar amount it costs, however long the pre-op diet it, and whatever fiery hoop you have to jump through... Get all the facts, but don't sell yourself and your loved ones short.. Yes, my life has changed, yes... I had to leave some people behind.. but, I found myself again!!! And I have to say... she's pretty darn cool!!! I like me a lot!!
I haven't dropped a huge amount of weight (in pounds), but I have left a HUGE amount of disgust, low-confidence, defeat and many other things synonomous with CRAP along the way...
    A few Tina-isms:
Your journey is yours!!! You can't expect it to be exactly like someone else's...
Don't compare yourself to anyone else.. Compare yourself to YOU!!.. Look at old pics, keep track of your measurements, do a side by side comparison... trust me, you'll see the difference
Enjoy your journey!!! If you do it grudgingly, the smallest excuse is all you'll need not to work out, not to drink Water, not to refrain from high calorie, but delicious stuff that slows/stalls your progress
Find an activity that you LOVE to do.. I LOVE aqua aerobics... I don't see it as excercise (although Jenna the Beast works the HECK out of me!!)... it's fun, burns lots of calories and helps tone the whole body
Affirm yourself!! Positive self affirmations work wonders when you are struggling to finish that last mile or last 5 minutes of a workout.. Yes, hearing it from others is good.. but say something good about yourself.
Extend the same love, support, grace, mercy and consideration to yourself, as you lavish on others.. You're human too right??
Don't make excuses, MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!!

Its now been a week and a half and I haven't stepped on a scale, but I feel like this isn't working for me. I lost 97 pounds pre op and now kind of feel like I expected so much more by this point. Is it normal to feel like I have failed already? I'm kind of depressed.
