Knowing that I've lost over 80lbs in 5 months, I would absolutely have the surgery again.

I just saw this thread on the new site. Don't believe the myth that African Americans lose slower than others. I was sleeved on 2/19/13 and lost 115lbs in 2013. We simply need to make better choices and be more disciplined regarding the foods we grew up on as kids.

I am not going to come down on anyone for cheating but the pre-op diet is to help you prepare for your new life. I am 5 months and 84lbs down and did not cheat on pre or post-op diet and to date I still haven't. I have lost and gained weight more times in my life than I care to mention. I am a proponent of pre-ops going to more than one required psych eval to work out your respective issues with food. Surgery was a last ditch effort for me to stay healthy and I WILL NOT fail? I have cheated my wife and family out of two many years by being overweight. Sure, you can recover from a slip, but why put yourself in that situation. Stay the course and follow the instructions of your nut and surgeon and you'll see results. Don't and you have no one to blame but yourself. Remember this is a permanent lifestyle change and not a temporary diet. You will need to get in 60-90gms of Protein, take Calcium and Multivitamins, and not drink 30-40 mins prior and after eating for life. Not doing these things will have serious effects on your progress and health. So, think about that when you get that urge to cheat and you give in to temptation. To the person who made a shake with butter pecan extract and ice, I commend you. I wish you all well on your journey.

I started at 309 and was 292 when I was sleeved on 2/19/13. I now bounce from 175-178.

Both are centers of excellence. I have two cousins who are scheduled to be sleeved at St. Luke's in December.

Sleeved on 2/19/13 at a starting weight of 309. I've been bouncing between 182-178 since June 2014. I'm so happy I got sleeved

Congrats to all of you. Everyone looks great. I am 13 weeks out and 70lbs down but too shy to take pictures. My wife is trying to convince me to do so.

My condolences to you on your loss. I know it must be very hard for you, but I hope you find comfort from the people who care for you.

If she is found out by the public, she could have some real issues if she is reported to the Attorney General. That is a clear cut case of fraud.

You really have to watch that habit as it can potentially turn into an eating disorder. I tell the newbies at my support group the same, as a number of veterans who did that early on have delivered problems. I stuck to the plan, I am 14 months post-op and 128lbs lighter for my efforts. I'm still around as well but life keeps me from signing in as much as I used/wan to. I am down 124lbs and about 20lbs from goal. Goal is 164 which I may or may not reach. However, I am happy to be out of the 200's for the first time since high school and my wife loves the new me. Hip, Hip, Hooray for the 50's.

124lbs down since being sleeved on 2/19/13. I started at a weight of 309 and I'm now the lightest I've been since high school.

I understand how you feel. I've had 6 six surgeries in 5 years including the sleeve and spent the entire month of October 2012 in the hospital due to emergency neurosurgery and also recovered from a staph and strep infection which almost killed me ( which was not related to my sleeve surgery).I'm also scheduled to have additional neurosurgery on October 30th. This new surgery has thrown me for a loop. I have isolated myself and keep things to all work and no play. I've also spent very little or no time interacting with friends or extended family. I too know what you're feeling and have lost the will to fight anymore. The only things that keeps me somewhat centered is my wife. She has suggested I speak to a therapist and stay connected with friends and family which I have rebuffed.
Sometimes this forum is the only place to express how I feel. I can't show weakness professionally, but I'm so tired of it all. Hang in there and I hope all will get better for you.

Another thing I can't wait for is not to feel awful when some idiots stares at my wife and I because of my weight. Also, I never want her to hear " but your so beautiful, you deserved a better man". This mostly came from her family, even though we will be celebrating our 25th anniversary in less than two weeks. Her mother and cousin bet and loudly proclaimed that they gave us two years max at our reception.
