DuranFan1969 got a reaction from Pitmom in How Much Liquids Is Too Much?
I think it's important to keep in mind that not all sleeves were created equal, in that they will not all be the same size on every single person. Having said that, I had the same thing happening to me during my liquid stage post-op and I was beginning to wonder if I had done something to my sleeve. Enter, the mushy stage .... and I'm full. Keep in mind, where some people may get 1 oz. in, you may get 2 oz. in. My example, someone posted above they can only get a few bites of a scrambled egg in, but I can do 2 oz. of scrambled eggs and 1/4 cup of corned beef hash for Breakfast and I am 12 days post-op. Do what feels right for you - don't worry, you are on the right track.

I think the only thing you really need to worry about is the calorie / fat content of any dressings. Honey mustard is usually pretty high in both, for example. One of my absolute favorite finds has been the spritzer Wish Bone dressings, especially since I found they make a ranch one - love their spray dressings and extremely calorie friendly.

DuranFan1969 got a reaction from Ms skinniness in Stuggling, need help with head hunger!
Wow, am I glad I found my way back (yet again) to this forum today of all days and find this thread. I have been getting my butt kicked huge for 5 months (yes, I said months .. ack!!!!) by head hunger. I am so ridiculously beyond frustrated and every time I get my little head hunger under control for a day or two, whoop there it goes again.
I'm usually really great during the work day but any time I'm at home ... yeah, not so much and it's making me nuts. I am great at taking and planning my day out, but I don't stick to it the second I walk through the door at home. It's not that I'm making poor food choices; I'm just making too many food choices. I drink my shakes, have good healthy Snacks and meals and rarely have anything sugary or fatty. Here's the other thing that I realized actually earlier today, and the reason I reminded myself to come back to the forum that has always been a lifeline for me ... I think I've identified why I have my head hunger. Real long story short, 2 years ago I broke up with my BF of 5 years (he told me I was too overweight for him). I had dated off an on since that time but nothing serious. I had my surgery in June 2012 and decided I was just going to focus on me. Well, 5 months ago bam, this amazing guy drops into my life and I've been dating him ever since - he is wonderful, supportive, everything great, etc. Now did you notice the trend? I've been seeing him for 5 months ... and I have been on a 5 month stall / head hunger bonanza.
So I think I've identified the problem (kind of). I know it happens only when I'm at home, I know that it's been happening since I started dating again. I track, I plan ... I fall off that plan every single time when I am at home. How the heck do you get around that kind of head hunger?

Thank you for posting this today, it was good to read. I'm with you on this, although my emotional eating is for slightly different reasons which actually dawned on me this morning (I started dating a fantastic man about 5 months ago, and that's when my head hunger / stall / grazing started up again).
Like many have said, the surgery does not fix the head - it only fixes our tummy and the head is oh so much harder to fix. Many of us don't realize why we have the habits we had and don't realize we're still with those unanswered questions after surgery. Heck, I've even contemplated therapy or hypnosis to try and sort out the head portion.
Hang in there Delta Girl - I think that being honest with ourselves like you have is a big part of the process and I'm glad that you came to chat about it today. It's certainly helped me in remembering that we all have a similar journey.

GasX is a wonderful thing, try to take the strips and it will help. Do what you can to stay hydrated and drink the tiny sips of Water that you can. It will get better, although it doesn't seem like it now.

That is one well said post !! I was pretty active on VST and I just got so tired of reading the most ridiculous things that it was just easier not to read the clueless things that are posted. People seem so shocked that while they can eat a certain amount of calories that those calories can't all be from the pizza food group. Now granted, we all have fallen down from time to time but as I've learned recently this whole process is about learning to pick yourself up again and keep going.

I didn't touch a straw for at least 6 months then I randomly found one in my drink and had already used it before I realized what I had done. It didn't feel any different to me, but I do try to avoid straws when possible to be on the safe side.

    Oh great thread!
    1. I can go shopping in my own closet and am wearing clothes I saved in case I ever actually lost the weight.
    2. I can walk around without running out of breath doing something as simple as a walk into a building from the parking lot.
    3. On the topic of walking ...uh who is this crazy person going for several laps around her complex and it isn't a horrible struggle?!
    4. To that point, who also is this crazy person that has so much energy she keeps finding chores to do around the house because she doesn't like to sit on the couch any more?!
    5. Agree with the above posters -- the sex!
    6. My sleevie has kept me on a healthy lifestyle for over 6 months, which is twice as long as I've ever gone before.
    7. While still losing weight, I am at a weight I haven't been at in 10 years and still going!

I had something similar happen to me in the first couple weeks post-op with Cream of Wheat too. I didn't actually have to run to the bathroom but I was really close to it. It did not sit well with me at all and felt like it just sat in my little sleeve like a rock (I made mine with Splenda brown sugar and water). I have had it more recently and was fine, but I have to wonder if sometimes our little sleevies just don't like certain foods at the start.

My surgeon told me 6 months and while I really wanted to have some before that time was up, he is the one who went through medical school, not me. Sure, I could cheat on my surgeon's advice but they why have the surgery in the first place to cheat? I wasn't about to risk it with a glass of wine that it would hurt my new tummy.

DuranFan1969 got a reaction from Butterthebean in Not Telling People....
I told very few people when I had my surgery in June; only told family and a few friends. There were a lot of people who really started to notice and comment around 80lbs lost and after a while I decided what the heck do I have to keep secret - it is a wonderful thing I did for myself and I am successful at it. I think that's when it hit me though - I didn't tell a lot of people because like every other thing I had tried it had failed and I didn't want another failure on my hands and people wondering what happened. I decided then that when I hit 100 lbs. gone I would open up and let everyone else in to share my news. It was a great day when I put out there for everyone to see a side by side picture of 100 lbs. lost and tell them why.

DuranFan1969 got a reaction from amytug in Why in the hell did I have this sugery during the holidays! I'm one week out and craving food bad!
I thought about that too when I was getting ready for surgery and then I realized there probably is never going to be an ideal time to have the surgery and putting it off just means I was going to gain more weight. It is extremely tough, even after being sleeved with all the holiday food that is around. Fortunately you have it within your power to control what you are eating and drinking, plus you are in an important phase where you need to stay on your pre-op diet, although it can be maddening. I remember watching TV during my pre-op diet and realizing not just how many food commercials there are but that every commercial is for food that is bad for us. You can do it!

I'm with everyone above; it would be a really bad idea. Your surgeon told you no alcohol for a reason - he wasn't doing it just to deprive you, he was doing it because his years of medical expertise has taught him that patients should not do it until a certain time frame has elapsed. Unless you are a doctor yourself in this specialty, I would take your surgeon's word on this one and not drink.. Happy 21st though!

See, now this is why I knew this was the place to come back to in order to start getting my head straight again about this. I figured a "back to the basics" would help and it does. It certainly helps to know I'm not alone in having this happen to me and that I have some misconceptions about what should be happening with my body. So far, I'm back on track today - it's only 5pm and I have 80 oz. of Water in already, can feel my body happier and haven't eaten anything that I didn't plan to. Granted, I still have to go home ... but I have my grilled veggie wrap all planned for the evening.

Hello all, I am so so late to this party! I was sleeved in June 2012 and totally slacked off on visiting forums (which I totally do not recommend doing - this is an amazing place for support and to help support others!) I'm in Duluth and my surgery was done by Dr. Hart at Emory Johns Creek - always here for any questions!
