    Working On Working Out

thank you fluffylibra30 for your ideas. I'm also struggling to find time and motivation to work out. I'm almost 11 wks out and only lost 30lbs so far, likely because I don't exercise. it's so hard for me
  3. thank you for sharing your experience. I've only lost 30lbs and my "wings" are scary! I can't stand them... I'm curious about arm surgery. would love to see before and after and hear more about the scars on the arms.

    Leak 4Ever?!

something about this does not sound right.... if you are leaking stomach contents into your abdomen that is dangerous and can lead to multiple problems, including infection in your abdomen

    Looking Younger

I had my surgery on 1/23/12 (I will never ever forget this date) and I'm only down 28lbs from my surgery date---yes I'm one of the slow losers on this site. BUT! people at work and random people I meet think I'm 19 years old!! ---mind you I'm 32 years old and a mother (which all of the ladies know ages you). So YAY!!! for this non-weight loss success! My husband better watch out, my pool of potential suitors has expanded into the teens! LOL! What's amazing to me about this is that at my heaviest (250lbs---I'm only 5'2") people thought I was in my 40's! I also felt older when I was heavier.

    9 Says Out And Hungary

I'm 9wks out and I've been hungry since the very beginning. I'm still hungry. I'm taking a PPI, so I know it's not acid. Like someone else said, some people don't lose the hunger.... but then again, I'm full with very little food.

    Caffine

it has to do with the fact that caffeine increase acid reflux and can cause ulceration of the stomach.
  10. something seems wrong from what you are saying, I would call your surgeon. it sounds worrisome.

3 Meals Or 6 Small Meals?

how often do you'll eat? my surgeon and NUT said to eat 3 meals and nothing in between. Well I get hungry, especially mid-afternoon, mid-morning. so I end up snacking. They tell me that my weight loss will not be as much if I eat between meals, unfortunately, I'm one of those sleevers that is always hungry and also a slow loser. I've lost 20lbs in 7 weeks, I know I should be happy that I've lost, but I just can't help but feel like I'm doing something wrong but not losing more. Surg date 1/23/12 Starting wt 220 current wt 200

    How Soon?

I'm six weeks out and haven't worked out yet, mostly due to time/work issues. But that might explain my slow weight loss. My surgeon said you can start working out at 2 weeks post-op. I'm curious about other people's experience....

3 Meals Or 6 Small Meals?

thanks for the reply, sounds like we have the same amout to lose (I have 95lbs) and had surgery only 3 days apart! How do you track you intake? do you weigh food? I haven't been tracking really, maybe that's my problem? do you exercise? when did you start?

    So Frustrated With Eating Out!

I think we all have the same frustration. it comes with the surgery. I so want to eat a big meal like I used to, especially at family gatherings. My little sleeve gets full, but my head is still hungry....

    Hemorrhoids, Blerg!

I recommend 1 scoop of miralax with 1 cup of water daily to keep your BMs very soft/mushy and help the hemorrhoids go back in.

    Anyone Have Surgery At/about 200?

I started at 220lbs and lost only 10lbs in the first 3wks, and have lost only 6lbs since then. I'll be 6weeks out this Monday, so 16lbs in 6 weeks, I feel like it's slow compared to everyone else, but it's also because I started at less. hoping it won't slow down starting wt 220 surgery date 1/23/12 current weight 204lbs
  18. Okay, so the old feelings of guilt I used to have before surgery are overcoming me once again. Here's the background: had surgery on 1/23/12. I have been very good, all I eat is Protein, only 3 meals/day, and I measure everything. I have lost only 17 lbs and I'm finishing week 6 now. Have felt crappy the entire time---tired and dizzy, and having a hard time keeping down all the vitamens/meds.... get nausea frequently from almost anything (in the car, drinking Water too fast, vitamens...). Haven't been able to exercise yet. So yesterday I was standing for 30mins in a hot room at work and I got very dizzy and sweaty. my sugar was 60. I had to leave work. felt like crap, it was around 10am and I had had 4oz Protein shake at 7am. I got frustrated, I can't do my job and all this for only 17lbs off! Then the kicker, today I ate 5 little Cookies for lunch. 1st time I've had sugar since surgery. they all went down well, suprisingly given my nausea with everything protein. I feel so guilty, don't know why I did it, I'll probably realize why later today. But I feel like it's the beginning of falling into my bad habits, my old emotional overeating self.... it's scary to have a setback. I feel like an alcoholic who has been sober for 6 weeks and just binge drank. HELP from all my formerly fat (always fat at hear) friends!!!!!

    1St "cheat"

thanks everyone! you're comments are so helpful and supportive. I think I need to have smaller meals throughout like everyone is saying and not be so carb shy. It got so bad that I was scared to eat carbs! I thought that once I start eating them then I won't stop. I was a major carb addict before surgery, like many of you

    1St "cheat"

thanks for you support words. I think you know exactly what I'm feeling. I really have to try hard to not let this get me down to the point where I sabotage myself.....

    1St "cheat"

thanks for the reply. I did get a plan and they want me to eat 3 meals only and eat protein 1st then cooked veggies if I still have room---which I usually don't. they are anti-carbs and basically don't want me to have any. I can't help but feel so guilty about the cookies, it's making me feel like a failure, also my slow weight loss is not helping

    Tricks To Taking Pills?

I still have problems taking pills (I'm 4 weeks out today!) and if I take them the wrong way I still throw up (like today). The way they go down and stay down for me is to take each one with a sip or two of Protein shake---and wait in between each pill for 5 minutes. then I can't drink Water afterwards for about 1 hr. if I drink water I will vomit them. don't know why, but this is something I've learned after surgery about my sleeve----it's very sensitive at this stage oh, and I have to split them into smaller pills with a splitter too
  23. How do you measure 3 ounces without weighing it exactly, sounds unrealistic. I think the 3oz of protein sounds good, but an additional 1/3 cup of veggies maybe too much at this stage. I would try eating only the protein over 20-45 mins and see how you feel. if you feel satisfied then that's good. you don't want to get too full and stretch your sleeve. my NUT said eat until you are satisfied, not full, because full is likely too much.

    Anti-Inflamatory Med?

try icing the area with a cube of ice inside plastic wrap, massage the cube of ice into the spot or spots that hurt. this actually calms inflammation and swelling
  25. we started at the same weight on the day of surgery! I had mine on 1/23/12. so in terms of things to eat, let me give you examples for each meal: Breakfast: cottage cheese, greek yogurt, eggs, cheeses lunch: tuna, lunch meats, cheeses, any soft fish (not fried), very moist chicken, soft Beans, soft lentils, and cooked veggies. (for instance I made a chili with pintos/lean ground beef and tomatoes/onions). make sure to mash up each bite before taking it and chew it 30 times in you mouth---I am for that, but usually chew about 20, until it's like baby food in you mouth. you don't want anything bigger going into your sleeve and causing problems dinner: similar to lunch. you want to avoid rice, Pasta, bread, anything starchy or sugary. go low carb. beans and dairy have carbs, but minimal they have protein and they don't expand much in your new sleeve. starches expand and can cause major discomfort and may risk leakage. if you make a meal for your family you can select the soft protien rich part and eat it----like if you make spaghetti and meatballs, you can have a meatball, just mush and chew alot. try to get lean beef if you can. I would avoid steak until 6 months out, it's just too tough and the muscle fibers are to thick to be safe in your new sleeve until 6 months. best of luck
