    June 2019 Surgery Siblings!

I was passing gas I think on day 2. As for a poo.... FINALLY, just this morning, day 5, after drinking a protein shake, I thought I was about to have something explosive but only dropped a little nugget. LMAO I'll take it as a win though, progress is progress. I'd like to think that since I haven't eaten anything for a few weeks....that nugget was pure fat being expelled. 😂

I'm going to have to try the tea thing I guess, I am finding the same thing, which is weird since I already had a VSG and just had a revision but I am finding Mio (which I couldn't live without before) very sweet and it almost seems like it's hurting my stomach. I suppose it is possible that since I am bypasseed now that the Sucralose is having a negative effect. Oh well, I'll try some tea and see how that goes down.

Not sure how much the male/female thing makes a difference when it comes to urination but I didn't pee for two days after, but then the night of that 2nd day, mannnn, I was up every couple of hours having to go. Same thing the next night. I think it's starting to balance out now that all of the IV fluids are out....I hope anyway.

    June 2019 Surgery Siblings!

Surgery went well yesterday. Woke up early this morning and been walking. Just had a long hot shower and feeling very well. Just a tiny bit of gas discomfort under my left ribs but all in all, nothing at all like my original VSG. Even the incisions don’t feel bad. They placed a drain on my left side that’s a bit sore but not bad. So ready for some broth or something besides ice chips.

You will feel that way for a week or 2. It's the period where you are detoxing from all the carbs but as soon as your body starts to burn body fat for energy you will feel ok again, most likely even better than before. In the mean time keep up with your water/liquids and protein and maybe take some B-12.

All I have found so far, at Sam's, is a mixed case of Mixed Berry, Grape, and Coconut. I wish they sold the flavors separately because I'm not a fan of coconut, though I haven't tried this drink yet. Who knows, I may like it.

When you go buy the clear drinks, I suggest getting the Protein 2.0. The Premier are wayyy too sweet, even more so than the shakes. I bought 4 cases of the Premier and can't stand them. Went yesterday and bought a case of the protein 2.0 and they're much more tolerable. Downside is they're only 15g protein.
  9. HOLY KALE !!!! LMAO Ok, so before anyone brings it up, yes, I had a little cheat from my preop liquid diet. The Kale conversation has been on my mind for days. I went to Sam's Club today to get more bottled water and protein shakes. I'm wandering around and see the Sweet Kale salad Kits and just had to get one, I was dying to see if it would stay down. I didn't add the little packet of raisins, nuts, etc. Added a bit of Primal Kitchen Dreamy Italian (made with Avocado oil). AWESOME!!! It went down well and STAYED DOWN. Now that that urge is out of my system I will get back and stay on track with liquids only but am so glad and looking forward to a lot of kale salads when I can get back to solids. Thank you @GreenTealael you made my day. KALE ON!!! 🙂

Some people do great with them, some don't for some reason but I have been using the patches from PatchMd.com for almost 2 years and labs always come back great. I use the Multi Vitamin, the B12 plus, D3 plus Calcium, and Iron. I also use a sleep aid one from the store here on BP because Patchmd doesn't have it. Patches= no pills/liquids, no aftertaste, etc. Remember, they are 8 hr patches, to reap the benefits, wear them the full 8 hrs.

    I... Have... Made... Poo!

It's mostly the caloric deficit and the high amount of protein that cause your BMs to be more infrequent. Keep your fluid intake up. Maybe incorporate some Metamucil (Fiber). Side Note....I see a few females chiming in on what is supposed to be a GUYS ONLY group.
  12. Zoodles @ Olive Garden???!!! I may just have to postpone my surgery. LMAO. What would be subbed for the sauce? I know the regular spaghetti sauce is full of sugar. Would definitely add meatballs. I love how a lot of restaurants are starting to accommodate Low Carb folks.
  13. 🤔 You know, TBH, I don't believe I have ever tried Kale. I used to loved big ol` lettuce salads but since my VSG in 2015, I haven't been able to eat any lettuce, even when finely shredded. It causes such severe pain it causes me to throw it up immediately. I've tried a few times over the past few years. I've tried different types of leafy vegetables too, but don't think kale was one of them. Might try that when I can go back to solids.
  14. Always! Even though some people might not agree. (Winking at sillykitty) Thank you though. Started my liquid diet on 5/15, at 320 lbs. As of this morning down to 303. 🤘 I think I experienced a good 30 hrs dry fast yesterday and a bit of the night before. I see the effects of autophagy work. Mind you, before @sillykitty has me comitted, this was most definitely not intentional. My work sent me out to a jobsite to relieve another guy. I was told it would only be for a few hours so I wasn't prepared with water or protein....30 hrs later I finally got relief. I dropped 5 lbs in 2 days. I wasn't even very active either. That's pretty crazy. I never felt bad or a lack of energy though. I've done IF and some 24 hrs water fasts in the past but never tried a dry fast. I can see it being a tool for possibly breaking stalls later. I have no intention of doing that any more before surgery, nor for quite a while after.

@Janet G Burch and @grl499 Welcome to both of you. Grl499, you're a day before me and Janet is a day after. Mine is 6/15. The pre and post OP liquids aren't bad (once you find protein shakes you can actually stomach). Once you get past the first week or so of detoxing from all the carbs your energy will start to come back as you'll be in ketosis and your body burning fat for energy. Good luck to you both on this life changing journey.

Lol I love old Mgbs and have owned a few so it just seems to fit Ohhhhh, LMAO. MGB= Mini Gastric Bypass.
  17. I might could use some therapy but it is definitely not for any eating disorders. So maybe the word "obsess" was a bit much. There's absolutely nothing wrong with aiming for zero carbs. And ok, so I didn't literally exercise 24/7. And lastly, what's wrong with questioning the possibilities with todays technological and medical advancements?? I guess I should choose my words more carefully.

@MgbGirl I'm guessing Rnygirl was taken? Lol. Just messing with you. Welcome.
  21. Great video. I like how he breaks it down so the average person can comprehend what he's talking about. The little jokes he throws in keeps you interested as well. This really helps to make sense of why a lot of people have been so successful on the Carnivore diet......AS LONG AS THEY ARE EATING CLEAN, ORGANIC, UNPROCESSED MEATS. Even if they eat meats higher in fat, as long as they're not mixing with sugars they're still good since to store the fat, it requires sugars. That was my understanding anyway. I understand though, that it would take an extremely strong commitment, to sustain long term on a clean, strict Carnivore. It also gets expensive buying Organic, Grass fed meats, it even gets hard trying to find them these days. I liked the "Don't eat" part. It's something I have had rattling in my mind lately. With all these vitamin and mineral supplements in patch form, I'm wondering how long a person could actually survive and be moderately active, without eating at all. But supplementing with patches. I know there have been a few who have done a year or so on a water fast but they definitely aren't active while doing it. Although he did say that without GIP going through the intestinal tract there would be bone loss. I guess that wouldn't be good. Lol
  22. I was an avid coffee drinker for a couple years but I can't stand it black so I would use creamers and sweeteners, etc and I think those things were causing insulin spikes so I weaned myself off. Tried cold turkey.....I definitely don't recommend that. But I've been caffeine free for about three months now. As for carbs, I have no issues there. I look at carbs as evil incarnate. LMAO Ever since doing Keto and Carnivore and reading all the research on those, I strive for ZERO carbs, it doesn't always happen but it's definitely a goal that I obsess over. My biggest issue is the boredom grazing and my very sedentary career as a crane operator. I literally sit in a seat and do nothing but pull levers for 12-14 hrs a day, 7 days a week. I would like to find a more active job but after doing this for over 20 years, and the awesome amount of $$$$$ it pays, it just seems insane to do anything else. If you've read my story on my profile then you know the only way I went from 420 to 190 after my VSG was because I had saved up enough money to take a year from working a focus strictly on exercise all day every day. Maybe that in itself wasn't the healthiest decision mentally. I don't know, I, like everyone else, am a work in progress. I'll figure it out. I think the things I am finding here in BP will help a lot this time. I wish I had stayed active in here since joining back in .....2012 I think??
  23. I completely agree with letting my new tool do what it's meant to first. I suppose what I meant was exactly what you said....to do a 16:8, which is primarily what I have done in the past. As for the WF pre surgery....I guess it wouldn't really be considered a Water Fast with the 3-4 protein shakes a day but other than those I'm only drinking 80-100oz of water. I've had bullion broth a few times but I don't think there's many calories there, if any. Thanks for the FB link.
  24. Just happened across this thread. Have read through a lot of it. (I may have skipped a few pages. Lol) I have done IF and EF in the past with success but kind of gradually gravitated away from it but after reading through here, I want to get back to it. I do have my revision in 2 weeks so I'll have to wait until I am through my post op stages and fully recovered but I think it will be good to have a decent plan in place for 2-3 months post op. Obviously, a lot will depend on how my body reacts with the MGB vs my current VSG. But I will still be following you all here for inspiration and ideas. I think I'm actually doing a modified EWF right now anyway going into my post 3rd week on a liquid diet. It really amazes me, as a couple of you have mentioned, how the longer you go without eating, the less you even want to eat. Getting beyond the head hunger or boredom eating has been my downfall in the past. Something I definitely plan to keep in check this second go around. @FluffyChix I've read you reference "Resetters" a few times. Is this another "group" thread somewhere or what??

    June 2019 Surgery Siblings!

What's up all you June misfits??? It is officially our month finally. It is also the first official day of my pre-op liquid diet, even though I started on 5/15 and as of this morning am down 11 lbs. WooHoo. Wishing a warm welcome to all of our newbies that have joined in the last couple of weeks. I know a lot of people get nervous as their date gets closer but I am actually anxious as hell. It's like the days are going by sooooo slooowww. I am so ready to be sliced and diced.....for the second time. Just hoping and praying that it will be done right this time. Anyway, best wishes to all getting ready for surgery this month and on the journey afterwards to a new and healthy life.
