  1. I am 3 days post op and I have to tell you it was no walk in the park. First, I had so much scar tissues the doctor told me the scar tissues from my band removal a year ago had begun to encase and grow over my liver. It took 4 hours to cut the scar tissue from my liver and stomach and other organs. Next, I was in so much pain from the gas I couldn't bear it. One nice nurse made me some homemade heating pads. However, the rest of the nurses did not want to assist with the Water heating pads but some did with attitiudes. I decided to write a list of what you really need pre op and post op from the hospital.

2 heating pads = 1 for your stomach and 1 for your back ( get the kind you have to plug in) the wireless ones don't heat well and it was hard to keep getting up and charging the batteries. Not to mention they only use rechargeable batteries.

1 shushi massager ( I think it spelled right)= to massage the gas from your back, side, and stomach

1 Coco butter oil only it helps if you have someone to rub you down and it helps

bath & body works = eucalyptus spearmint stress relief aromatherapy. lotion and spray for the pillow it really, really helps.

  2. Im still in my hospital room too , all seems well - going for a swallow test soon. Pain was quite intense at first but the meds are working now and it was nowhere near as bad as anticipated. Good luck to all the July 3rd sleevers!

    congrat

  3. Well my surgery was canceled, I recieved my denial letter on wednesday, all because the morons at my surgeons office insisted that i only had to do 4 months with the NUT. Well turns out that if she would of listened to me when i told her my plan specifically requires 6 months of visits with the NUT i would not be crushed right now. My only other issue is that i submitted weight histories for 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012. Turns out i was not at a bmi of 35 until 2009. I have now requested my weight history from my Dr. in Florida for 2008 (we had briefly relocated to FL and when we moved back i lost the info for who the dr. was since i only visited him twice i couldnt remember his name) My friend figured it all out for me and the request has been sent. Keeping fingers crossed that my bmi was 35 in 2008. Surgery will be rescheduled sometime in August. Good luck to you all.

I am so sorry, I deeply regret what has happened.

  4. I was in to see the doc last week for my one week post op and he told me that I could go ahead and start supplements. So Saturday I took my first set of multivitamins about 45 minutes after finishing my Protein Shake for breakfast and within 2 minutes, they came right back up. I hate chewable vitamins to begin with and can't believe I wasted my money on these things that I will never take. I need to find something else that agrees with me. Can anyone give me an idea of what they are taking on a daily basis, so I can get my vitamin/supplement regimen in order. Before surgery, I took the Gummy vites for adults and was wondering if people were taking those too?

    I know they are gross

  5. Hi! I'm 7 days post sleeve surgery date was June 26.

I had surgery in Australia by a surgeon I know. I've had lots of information thrown my way from various specialists (as I am a medical practice manager) and wanted to share some of it with you all who may not have had as much free access to information.

Diet after surgery is SO crucial!

Dietician who visited me in hospital gave me a wonderful talk.

You starved your body and then went into a massive surgery. You come out and starve it again? NO!

I am on 3 resource Protein drinks (20g of Protein in each 200 mL bottle-- sipped for 90 minutes each)

Also on yakult drinking yogurt- 2 a day

    Also a chewable multi

Also Campbell's real beef consumme stock (100 g serve sipped over 30-45 minutes)

Also sustagen or vita soy drink (concentrating on protein per serve)

THEN I am to worry about my free fluids. I still love Water, so drink as often as I can but do not put Water above nutrients.

I have been using my old yakult yogurt bottles as a sipping guide so I don't stretch myself out with water.

Your body NEEDS to heal before you can worry about the darn scale!

I have weighed myself.. 103.8 kilos a week before

98.6 a day before and 96.1 kilos 2 days post op.

A kilo is about 2.2 lbs I think.

I will start weighing myself properly when I get into the next phase, which is purée.

Don't starve your body the nourishment it needs to heal itself. You have forever to work that sleeve into the new you, no need to rush. Starving will lead to stalls. A truly fueled body will take care of it for you. Starving instead of healing can lead to complications with wounds and such. (some later cases of leaks have been connected with poor post op nutrient intake)

Fuel ur body, fuel ur healing! You are in control!

Sip sip sip.. Protein protein protein.. The first 2 weeks need to be full nutritious fluids in small small quantities!!

    Good advice

  6. I know what you're saying. From reading everyone's stories, it seems everyone is so very different! I'm scheduled for my sx on Tuesday so I'm curious to see what my weightloss will be too. I'm a little bummed because I have not lost the 15lbs they've requested for the pre-op regimen so that's a bit foreboding. My doc told me we may even need to cancel the surgery if I don't weigh in at the target so I've been very stressed this weekend with trying to get to that 15lbs mark. Since I've been on 100% liquid since my pre-op appointment, I think I'm there, but I can't bear to step on the scale to confirm.

I'm a bit wary, but If I don't have this procedure on Tuesday, I'd be terribly disappointed. Best of wishes. And I think we'd all be in agreement that you just need to be patient and DO YOU. Follow the diet programs and you'll begin to melt away. My doctor always stresses that WLS is a TOOL, not the SOLUTION. You still have to work at it and build better eating habits.

I am a little bummed also I don't know if I will be sleeved Tuesday because I am still awaiting breath results for h.pylori.

  7. GOOD LUCK to all the July 2nd sleevers having surgery along with me tomorrow- That would be:-

Patrick Curl, Faganberry, sleevertobe, ChristineS NY, ladyarwenrose, emptynesterpam, Milca, Bigdogkc, BeatrizS1974, khernandez72, Nettle, justme360, deetaylor, kia, 4myfamily, BabeSwift, ShannonK.

I know we are going to rock it, sleeve siblings!

Congrats to you all, with special love to fanganberry

  8. I did not have the H. pylori test unless they did as part of upper GI and/or Pre-op blood work. Of course the GI doc said everything looked good which was a relief since my dad has Crohn's & my mom's dad had it too.

They usually do it as part of the blood work. However, if it is inconclusive they do the breath test. The results from the upper GI is conclusive also if they get it back in time.

  9. I'm thankful my surgeon doesn't even book the surgery date till after you pass all the tests. I would be really upset too if my date was moved. I wish you guys best of luck!

PS. I'm surprised some people don't have to do EGD. Mine was vital because of acid reflux. Apparently if there is too much damage in the throat from reflux the sleeve is not an option.

I had to do the EGD but the results won't be back for 7 to 10 days.

  10. I asked a lot of questions about his experience: How many have you done, any leaks?, complications I can expect, post-surgery support, etc.

I asked about all the meds I was taking and when I could take them again after surgery - if you're on meds that is super important.

I also asked him how people fail. I highly recommend this question because it helps you get things right in your mind and know what pitfalls to watch for.

    Good luck!

You can ask what size bougie they will use on your stomach? ask about h.pylori and the effects of it holding up your surgery date. Hair loss and if it can be prevented? Is the weightloss 50% to 75% of your excess weight which makes you obesse or of your total weight? Hope that helps.

  11. are you having an EGD(Upper Endoscopy)?? I know they can check there too.

    Johnathan

That also test for h.pylori with blood test. They may ask for additional test such as the breath test. If your blood test show negative for H. Pylori they may not ask for an EGD. or a breath test.
