  1. thanks for the info b/c im still pre op and trying different ones and OMG i tried the ones from GNC called Lean shake 25..i got 3 packets: Rich chocolate, Cookies and Cream and french vanilla..and the only one i could stomach was the chocolate one.. i Tried the vanilla one today and i couldnt even get it all the way down..it was GROSS! so i'm crossing Those off of my list..i have a Vitamin Shoppe here so i'm going to try those

Another one that I liked as my second choice was the OH Yeah! Protein Shake and Protein bar. It has 18 grams of protein for an 8 oz bottle. I didn't care for strawberry a little after taste but vanilla and chocolate was okay. Not at great as the organic cafe mocha though. I am really excited I found something that I found something doesn't taste like medicine, has a chalky after taste or is totally gross.

  2. I am offically one month out and down 23lbs. I found the most delicious Protein Shake. OMG I was hating the taste of shake because I have been on them so long. I had a hital hernia repair which makes it harder for me to swallow right now. I hated every single shake I have tasted until dunt dunt dunnnnn. I tried an organic cafe mocha Protein Shake from the Vitamin Shoppe. I went their asked the employee which one he tasted that was the best. Oh yeah Protein Bar was always a favorite of mine.

    The Best shake ever

Organic Cafe Mocha from the Vitamin Shoppe and whole foods ************** 100 stars if I could

I could drink this shake all day. It has no caffeine, taste like ice coffee, is organic, and has 16 grams of protein. I am in heaven. OMG I am finally looking forward to Breakfast in the morning. If anyone is having a problem with shakes I highly recommend this shake. I purchased all of them from the vitamin shoppee.

  3. After surgery my whole entire body itched from head to toe. The gave me benedryl( sorry for spelling) for but it made it worst. They gave me something else and it put me out completely out. I have begun using coca butter oil for the dry skin I developed after surgery, it has helped. Today the itching is gone.

  4. All doctors are different, I have an extremely conservative doctor, I had a few complications with surgery but this is what he expects from all his patients.

Clears - 1 week - broth, Isopure, decaff tea, sugar-free Popsicles, sugar-free Jello

Full Liquids - 5 full weeks - Protein shakes, Syntrax nectar, unjury unflavored Protein added to Soups, skim milk, Low Fat Creamed Soups, or strained creamed soups like Cream of Asparagus, cream of chicken, broccoli cheddar (strained) Healthy Request Bean & Bacon Soup - completely pureed, then add Water to it, so it's fully liquid, some people are allowed cream of wheat - I wasn't allowed that also anything from the clears section allowed, Sugar-Free pudding, Plain Greek Yogurt - not allowed Cream of Potato (too many carbs) Tomato Soup (too acidic) strained vegetable soup, etc.

pureed - 1 week or until you think you can handle soft foods tuna & ff mayo - (must be very moist), instant mashed potatoes with added Protein Powder, poached eggs or runny scrambled eggs, canned chicken pureed with ff mayo, refried Beans with ff sour cream, cooked white fished, pureed add ff tartar sauce, 1% cottage cheese, (once on pureed, watch how much cheese you take in, because Constipation is an issue)

Soft foods - 1 week, meat that you cook in the crock pot and you can cut with a fork and falls apart, no nuts, no seeds, softly cooked vegetables, tuna, fish, etc.

Regular foods - or anything off the other lists.

This is all subject to how well you do on each phase. We are not to advance until told to. My surgeon seems to have one of the longest full liquid phases.

Pureed foods (tuna & chicken) are not going down too easy on me. I can get it down but only about 1 ounce along with maybe 3 teaspoons of 1% cottage cheese, but then I have a heavy feeling in my chest and stomach, not sure if it's been too dry. Today I went to broth for dinner because I have a Migraine and I feel nauseated, due to the headache.

I will go back to purees tomorrow and hope for the best.

    thank you guys soooooooo much

  5. I did the same thing when making my kids a meal the other night. I seriously doubt one time to quell a craving means I have an eating disorder. More so, I was having hunger and took a healthier way to cope than eating something that could have hurt my sleeve. I didn't do it to avoid calories, it was to get a taste of real food without causing harm. You're totally fine (and normal).

That was my feeling exactly. I don't want to do anything that will make this process worse. Thank you

  6. Honestly I did it once when I was on my pureed stage. Everyone was eating baked ziti and chicken. I chewed both didn't swallow and spit it out. It gave me the flavor and I was okay. I was craving chewing badly and although it may sound gross to some I don't think it is or will lead to a eating disorder. I mean heck most of us already have some type of eating disorder.

My adice is if you do it don't make a habit out of it. Your tummy is still fraigle and needs to heal properly.

    Hugs

I think you advice helped. I glad someone else had the thought or went through it also. I will also try and wait to get to the puree stage. Thank you soooooo much. It really helped. I am usually very strong however, I can see how everyone needs encouraging support. Thank you again

  7. When I was in my liquid phase post op I felt exactly the same way. Whenever the craving for taste and texture got bad enough, I would chew a little bit and spit it out. For me, just doing that once for something I was feeling deprived of would do the trick. Later, I found out in our support group that our bariatric coordinator, who is a bariatric nurse and a RNY recipient herself, totally advocates that. I am sure if you were doing it constantly, then that might be a red flag of an eating disorder, but to do it once in a while while coping with learning a new way to eat I imagine is fine.

Thank you for the advice. I was looking for some support on how I am feeling. I never tried it but someone told me about it. Thank you for not labeling me or diagnoising me. It was a thought. I am 6 days out and everyone is eating around me and the smell is unbearable. I didn't get to have Water until 2 days ago and I could get shakes until yesterday. They didn't give me anything in the hospital until the 4th day the doctors gave me water and day 5 I got broth. Yesterday I had a partial shake. Thanks for putting me back on the right track without judging me.

  8. I am home from TJ and was sleeved by Dr. Garcia on July 2. I am getting my liquids but this rumbling in my tummy after every sip of everything is annoying. Some pain and discomfort as well after a sip. Please tell me this is somewhat typical??????

I have the same thing is has eased up as I my stomach got use to what I was eating. 4 days post op

  9. Hi can you elaborate more on how these things help? i understand about the heating pads and the massage...i'm lucky i just purchased a sub zero chair with a massager. I'm totally confused with the cocoa butter and eucalyptus spray. help? lol

cocoa butter for human massagers and dry itchy skin after surgery, It works on contact to put mositure back in skin.

and eucalyptus spray heled spelled good and also helps to relieve stress and they have one for sleep. I used them both and all I can say is OMG! someone else told me about it before my surgery. I was weary at first but it does help. one I sprayed on my pillow when I was uncomfortable and just wanted to leave the hospital. The other my husband rubbed on my neck and arms. Hope this helps

  10. Thanks, I was debating on bringing my electric heating pad. Now, not only will I bring it, but I will buy another one tomorrow. I do love heat and think it will be a comfort. I don't know about the massager. I will look at what they have at the pharmacy. My surgery is scheduled for next Tue.

jThe massager helped move all the gas. excuse my language, I passed gas excessively after using the massager and the heating pads. I beginning to feel much better without the gas.

  11. You may or may not be able to use the heating pad at this hospital. Many hospitals require that any electrical gadget be approved as electrically safe prior to use, others may not allow the use of heating pads at all. The only "warming pad or blanket" I have seen used in the hospitals in the last number of years is one that warms with warmed circulated Water.

Additionally if you are a diabetic be very careful sleeping on the heating pads. They can cause burns.

I had the heating pads plugged them in along with my phone charger without a problem. However, I would take them and if you can't use them you can use them at home. But you will need them.

  12. March 5 my dad had been sleeved and two days post op found two pin hole leaks. He was eventually put on life support for 3 Weeks with kidney, lung, and liver failure and was septic. after being in the hospital for over a month he was sent home on a feeding tube with stents covering the pin holes they had turned to nickel size holes. He had his feeding tube in til June and was not allowed to eat or dink anything at all. He lost over 100 pounds in 2 months. now 4 months post op he is barely allowed to eat pureed and there is a pocket that formed where the holes were do Dr is scared to let him eat. My dad is miserable and regrets having the surgery done even tho he would have died soon without it. Anyone else experience leaks or near death experiences like this? I was sleeved by same surgeon June 25th and recovery has been quick and amazing.

I am so sorry. How is he now? What are the doctors plans to help your dad?

  13. Thanks, I was debating on bringing my electric heating pad. Now, not only will I bring it, but I will buy another one tomorrow. I do love heat and think it will be a comfort. I don't know about the massager. I will look at what they have at the pharmacy. My surgery is scheduled for next Tue.

The massager is as small as the heating pad. I purchased it at walgreens. You can lay on it. It will help ALOT with the gas. Believe me I feel almost normal reference to gas now.

  14. Did they run tests at the er for a leak? I was back in the er day 5 with severe pain. Mri an ct scan showed everything was ok. If you are concerned call you dr or nurse. Even a support group leader. You need to be reassured you are ok. It is normal to have these fears. I am still dealing with emotions 11 days out. Praying comport for you. Hugs, angie

    Could it be gas?

  15. I'm so sorry, I had the adhesions issue also and I love your list. I can't see a massager on my belly, but my shoulders and neck - and I seriously want eucalpytus spearmint stress relief lotion right now. What a great list.

I hope you feel better soon, and good luck with healing. Monday is 5 weeks out and every day is better than the day before ;)

The massage is small and encased in cushion with two small balls. This massager is most comfortable it doesn't hurt.

  16. WHat would be a guess of what normal drainage for 4 days post op? Just kinda weird yesterday there was about 30 cc and today maybe 5cc! I realize everyone is different and the goal is to have none! Just is kinda odd

The doctors took my drainage out before I left the hospital. But it was full some days and less on others. Maybe it depends on how much you drink? I am not sure if this is helpful.
