Apples and Peanut Butter have always been a favorite snack of mine. Post op it's been apples and PB2. So I thought I'd be clever and create an apple peanut butter Protein Shake. Mixed Syntrax Nectar Apple Ecstasy and PB2. Tried several different versions with varying the amounts of the two ingredients. They all sucked! And smelled like puke. Beware! Do not try this at home.

It's been a while since I weighted in. I'm over 90 lbs lost. I went from a 22/24 to a 12. I haven't been in a 12 since middle school. I have regained my life and haven't been more happy.

I've had to practice a lot of mindfulness to unlearn the mindless eating habits of going too fast or having too much at once. And I've been stuck maybe a half a dozen times to help remind me. It's uncomfortable until the food dislodges and then immediate relief. Not a position any of us ever wants to be in but for some of us food bolting types it does happen. I have found the things that don't work for me and Tom is right, this can be very individual. Steamed beets, of all things, as they seem to be too slippery or perhaps grainy. Once it was leftover fish direct from the fridge. I had not eaten for way too long (several hours) and grabbed cold Protein -- did not heat it up and then probably gobbled. It was rubbery. So the moral of the story is chew, chew, chew. Note that being stuck is not like throwing up because the food hasn't been in the stomach, so it's more like spitting up. I can tell that once an episode begins it is going to have to come up. I have used warm Water to get it over with.

You usually won't get stuck till you have a fill or two and then it's usually chicken, broccoli, rice, bread, steak. Mostly solid foods.
You'll feel some pressure directly under your sternum and can feel like a golf ball is lodged there for 15-60 minutes. Nothing to fear, just eat slow and chew a lot.

I was told 1-2 lbs a week. So on a good month, 8 lbs. and on a bad month, 4lbs. Anything more than that count it a blessing.
It does slow down. But hang in there. It does keep going.
Stay away from carbs, drink Water, and exercise.

kah1213 reacted to 7 Bites_Jen in Lapband Vs Sleeve Vs Bypass Surgery
I have really enjoyed reading this thread and seeing other perspectives. My decision to go with the sleeve was based on a lot of research and talking with people that have had every surgery out there. It wasn't one that I made arbitrarily at all.
I originally was going to go for the lap-band but after talking with a few friends that had it as well as my mother, I decided it wasn't for me. I didn't want to have to return over and again for fills and removals of saline, and I didn't want to give myself a way out (if this doesn't work, I can always have it reversed ...) FOR ME - that wasn't an option (I have a tendency to give up and not finish what I start...). The other thing for me was that I was terrified of the bypass. I knew three people that passed after having it done, two of which were from malabsorbtion (sp?) complications. The sleeve was the best choice for what I wanted out of bariatric surgery.

EACH of the surgeries have their merits. For every band that slips, or doesn't work right there are fifty that work beautifully. For every RNY or duodenal switch person that has had severe complications, there are hundreds whose lives are saved from it.
For each sleever that has had a leak or other issue, there are many, many that have better lives from it.

It depends on what YOU want out of your surgery - that's the beauty of it! There really is a good option for everyone.

Hi Kitydon. I'm 19 months post op and yes...the sweet tooth for me has come back hard. I've been doing alot of soul searching trying to figure out why. If there is some emotional trigger. For me I think it's stress. Stress over the holidays. Over the fear of failure and relapse. Over family. Work....everything. Whenever I get stressed, I'm reaching for something sweet.
I do not want to slip back to where I was, and it most certainly is possible. Anyone who's a year or more out knows it can all come back if you let it.
I suggest you look for reasons why you might be slipping. Triggers that might be pushing you to have those cravings. Whats more, understand that the more you give in, the harder it is to resist the next time....both mentally but also physiologically. Sugars produce cravings for more sugars. So while you're looking for your triggers, dig down deep and find your inner strength. The same strength you used to decide to have surgery to begin with. Double down on your committment until you get back on the right path.
    Good luck.

I never thought I would see 135 lbs again. Everyone says there is a bounce back and I was trying to get used to the idea since I could not seem to lose any of the weight I regained.
I've had really good success with the 5:2 way of eating. It helped me from grazing and snacking. I don't know why really, because I could have just given up and started grazing and snacking again. I was so sad though, that there were so many clothes that I loved that I coudn't wear anymore. So I followed the rules of the diet and slowly lost my 15 lb regain.
Now I know that even though I am in maintenance, I have to keep following the original rules of being sleeved. Protein first, veggies and only good carbs if there is room ( and there never is) Treats and Snacks need to be a rare thing not as part of my regular meal plan.< /p>
Thank God for the sleeve. I still have good restriction if I eat what I am supposed to eat and not chips and cookies!
