Same. 100lbs lost and only my dad knows. I don’t have time to educate people ;)

I have had a band since 2009, was initially very successful but over the past 3 - 4 years it has stopped helping. Am now considering my options - my surgeon has recommended an RNY.

Would love to hear from others that have had this revision and what the pros cons and successes are

18 months post op and over 80lbs lost. Only my husband knows to this day. My body, my choice. I don't discuss my dental surgery, hysterectomy, or any other illness with anybody. I had been obese for most of my adult life and having one more meaningless, hurtful or back-handed advice/opinion ( if I had disclosed my surgery) was the last thing I wanted. When people ask how I did it, I tell them "...lifestyle changes" which is true. I am a private person so I shut the conversation right there. I don't regret keeping it to myself. I know and understand that sharing might help de-stigmatize weight loss surgery. I chose not to bear that burden (for lack of a better word).

Hellllll yeah! 2019 is going to be a good year I just know it! I’ll do a more in depth post later with my intake and what not but this is good for now 😊

    Happy New Year folks!

Not me. I don’t feel bad. In fact, An encounter yesterday at my 1 wk post op appt confirmed my decision to stay private. After meeting with my dr, I met with the dietician on staff. While waiting, the receptionist said, “you shouldn’t have had surgery. You’re too small”. I got angry and felt so judged. For fear of what would come out of my mouth I gave her a nasty look and walked away. Bottom line: it’s a personal and private decision. No one has the right to comment or make a judgement about something that has absolutely NO effect on their life.

I gained about 8 pounds between Band and sleeve. I'm not on solids yet, so I'm hungry a lot, but 4oz does satisfy me for an hour or two

When I'm eating meals, it's there. I'm 2 years out. Now if I graze and pick at stuff all day, no I don't feel it. And certainly I can eat more now than right after surgery. But tonight I had a pork chop and rice for dinner. I could eat 1/4 cup of rice and about 4.5 ounces of pork chop. (Mind you, I cooked after doing crossfit and burning about 1,000 calories). So, I still feel it and I'm grateful for it. It keeps me on the straight and narrow.

I feel mine always. Like if I eat anything more than the equivalent of a half of banana I start to feel it

Hi again. I am still learning this app and not sure how to reply individually to each post. So I hope I am doing this right. I needed to have my band removed due to severe Gerd. I was offered a mini gastric bypass or sleeve. I chose the sleeve over bypass as I wanted the benefit of reducing the hormone grelun. Spelling may be off sorry. And I did not want to be on a lot of Vitamins life long. My hemoglobin dropped has always been on the low side but really dipped low following surgery. This has made me more tired over the past couple of weeks. Water has been a challenge. I flavor it to allow me to drink more but I am not getting it all in. I hope other liquids such as popsicles and milk etc will count. WRT to intercourse my surgeon said 2 weeks post op okay. I think we need to remember that most of us with revision have a slightly longer surgery to remove the band, port, clean up scar tissue, fix hernia and a sleeve. Wow we went through major surgery!! Be kind to yourselves and give time to heal

kah1213 reacted to VSGDavid in Who has had the sleeve? How did you do? Pros and cons? Would you do it again?
My advice would be not to do the band. Many surgeons don't even do them anymore. I was sleeved on 12/4/18 and would do it again in a heartbeat.

    Hello Pals,
Its been a while since I have been on here. I had the lapband which was removed in 2016. Slowly over the two years and sadly I gained 25 lbs. I am scheduled for Sleeve on 1/23/19. Just reaching out to see what everyone's experience has been if you converted from lap band to sleeve. I wasn't worried at all with lapband but I am a little with this surgery

kah1213 reacted to Jess55 in ? For Band to Sleeve revisions....
I had a band to sleeve revision almost 6 months ago. As for pain post op, I was in less pain, though the band was my first ever surgery. I took pain meds for three days then. For the sleeve I didn't take anything after the first night. Although I did stay in the hospital 2 days due to nausea. And I did have some nausea weeks 2-4.

As for restriction. It is so much different than with the band. A few bites with the band and I'd be in pain, but then I could eat anything. I never found my sweet spot. With the sleeve, no pain from being stuck, just an uncomfortable feeling if I ate to much. I'm much happier with the sleeve

I'm a slow loser, not terribly, but slower than a lot of people on here. Like I said I'm almost 6 months out and including my pre op im just under 50lbs lost.

Would I go back to the band, hell no, or would I ever recommend it to anyone, no way. The band is horrible and I don't know why it's still used. Do I regret having the sleeve, not a bit, only that I didn't revise sooner, maybe I would not have gained back everything I lost with the band .

Hi Julie. I feel like I've been punched in the mid section. Hard.
The port I think is basically in the same place, but sewn deeper into the muscle so it's not visible. I can't really tell yet because the whole area is swollen but the idea is that the port is now deeper in the abdominal muscle and changed out to a lower profile again to make it less noticeable.
I'll let you know how it looks once the swelling goes down.

Had my port revision yesterday. Glad it's over is all I can say. But here's my takeaway story for the day.
So I'm wearing the horrible hospital gown with the sock thingies on as well and waiting with the BF for my surgeon to come in to see me. Already got alot of comments from the nursing staff about the weight loss and was OK with it knowing it would stop once I went home.
So as you likely know, the surgical floor is kept fairly cold and while waiting for the surgeon, I tucked my legs up under myself to keep warm. The surgeon walks in and first thing she says after good morning is 'well...look who's all curled up in the chair there.' Figures she would spot that right away knowing that was an impossible position for me at one time.
