  1. 1 years have passed since you registered at VerticalSleeveTalk! Happy 1st Anniversary hopin4slv!

  2. I was wondering how you were feeling! I"m glad everything's going well! "Weigh" to go!
  3. yeah i totally know what you mean!... your hubby will come around.. mine really did... once he realized this was what i wanted... he started to change his mind... I am going in 2 weeks!!!!.. Oct 1! .. it would be awesome if you went around the same time as me! then we could cheer each other on! :)

  4. Hey hopin4slv,

I arranged everything myself. I couldn't do it privately in Edmonton, so I would've had to travel anyway, so I opted for Dr. Aceves as he is way more experienced than any surgeons in my area when it comes to the sleeve. The cost at the time was $8750 + flight. I also had to buy Nexium for the first 3 months after surgery (I got it here, except for my stupid pharma insurance didn't cover it!). All other things were covered.

I believe the $8750 was a promo price - it was very slow when I got my surgery done, Dr. Aceves does up to 3 surgeries a day, and the day of my surgery was the only day out of the 3 I stayed that he had 3 patients. I believe the regular price is $9500, but the promo might still be on.

I don't have any reservations about the care I received, so I'd definitely recommend looking at Dr. Aceves if you are thinking of going abroad.

  5. Hi! I live in Saskatchewan & was wondering if you arranged things for your surgery by yourself? I'm just wondering if the cost was less than going thru Weight Loss Forever in Saskatoon? They charge $9000 & I'd have to pay my flights unless I upgrade to a different package.

Thanks, & glad you're doing well!

  6. Check out the Total Vertical Gastric Plication...forum, it's at the bottom the list of different boards.
  7. I know what you mean. I never mentioned to hubby cuz I figured if I wasn't approved than there'd be no point. I asked him his opinion last night, said I didn't want to hear 'you don't need it' or other stuff, just what he'd think if I wanted to do it. All he said was 'we can't really afford it'. I told him that I knew that but what I've spent over the last 20 years probably cost that much & I don't want to spend the next 20 trying every pill & crap that comes out to try to lose my weight. My mom, aunts, grandma...are all overweight & I look at them & think there's no way I want to be feeling like this when I'm their age. I'm turning 40 (eek!!!!) this year & it's time to do something permanent.

I emailed Caralee but haven't heard anything. If I go ahead, I'll do the credit line thing as well. That'd be cool if there were a few of us from WLF at the same time. Did they give you a price with a facilitator going?

  8. Dr. Watkins: I, like MS Lisa, have about 50 pounds to lose & have been looking into VSG. I have been approved by LIMARP (Dr. Pompa) in Mexico, but now that I have seen this thread, I'm very interested in more information. I would be self-pay, I am Canadian and do not qualify for any WLS as I'm not considered morbidly obese. Is there a website or email address where I can get more information on the cost of the procedure? I have no major co-morbidities, just GERD.
  9. Hey girl... my financing was approved and i set a date and Im just waiting on DrP to give it the go ahead.... so technically the date isnt set in stone but I was told that the 1st would be my date ... im nervous because once i get the 100% go ahead ... i dont know what to do next lol... flights will be from ontario ... ugh.. im feeling how ur feeling when it comes to not knowing where to go from there lol.... but i do know that I am doing this no matter what!!... My husband knows and is 100% behind me... we are using the medicard but the interest rate is high so we are also taking out a line of credit to off set the medicard loan... we have planned it out so that after 2 years it will be paid off... im scared about the financial cost but i know its definitely worth it!

  10. I just got an email saying I was approved but don't know what happens next. I replied with my questions, but since it's the long weekend I won't hear anything for a while. Do they forward paperwork? Is there medical tests to be done here? Do I book a date? I asked for the full price list to compare what it costs to use their patient facilitator. Any extra info would be great!
  11. Hey, did I see you say that you have a date? I finally got an email from Caralee at WLF & she said I'm approved. What do I do now? I replied to her but since it's the long weekend I haven't heard and am curious. All she said was that I was 100% approved. Do they send information, do I call the clinic to book? Arg, as soon as I read it I had the "maybe I shouldn't, I don't really have the money & should just do it myself!'. Now that I've been okay'd, I'm gonna talk to my hubby & tell him about the surgery & that I really want to have it. I haven't mentioned it because I thought if I don't get approved it won't matter.

sleeve - I still haven't heard! :frown1: The waiting is driving me crazy! I started the process with WLF, Caralee & Tammy said they'd put a rush on my paperwork since they lost it the first time, but nothing! I attended one of the online meetings in July & that's what made me decide that I wanted to go through with the surgery. Fingers crossed! :biggrin2:

It does make me feel better, for the most part I've read good things. I don't think I'd hesitate to use Dr. Aceves either. We'll see! sleeveorbust - I'll let you know when (if) I get a date, it would be so great to have someone down there who's familiar with everything!

I'm thinking Dr. Pompa, simply because I can get a pkg that includes everything, airfare, hotel, a facilitator...I won't have to worry about anything. Although there seems to be more posts regarding other doctors!

Thanks so much for greetings! I don't have a date yet, I just found out my info was lost in cyberspace! Ack, so now I have to resend it all. But on the plus side, they'll put a rush on my application. I would love to be able to go in September, I'll keep you posted! I look forward to hearing how everyone is doing! Good luck & ((hugs)) to everyone who gets to start their journey!
