  1. My aunts kinda mad about me getting it done around Christmas and New Years. There will be quite a few traditions I won't be able to do but the sooner I get this done the better. And at least we all get thanksgiving. I think I would be quite miserable with my broth at the table and watching everyone mow down on turkey, mashed taters and casseroles lol. My family does turkey enchiladas the next day too. Lol

I understand, I am having mine done Dec 13th, I feel the same, at least I get Thanksgiving..lol But I feel I don't need food to make me or the Holidays better! I will be better and happier thin, and I can still help cook and make my family a great meal, I just wont be able to enjoy it with them, but that doesn't take away from the Holiday. Its about Family and love! Good luck and hope she doesn't stay mad too long!

  2. I have UHC PPO option also 90/10. I was approved Oct 3. and I also had to do a 5yr weight history and nut and physical and psyc eval. TO ANYONE HAVING TO DO A 5YR WEIGHT HISTORY, IF YOUR WEIGHT WAS UNDER THE BMI REQUIRED FOR THE 5YRS...HAVE YOUR SURGEON NOTE ON THERE THAT YOU WERE DOING WEIGHT LOSS PLANS AT THE TIME AND HAD LOST SOME WEIGHT!!!! very important to get approval! the insurance will not deny you if they know WHY your weight was low at some points!! My insurance actually told me that! just passing it on. I was so worried because my weight was under for 2yrs of the 5yr history. But after my surgeon noted on there that I was trying to lose at those times, I was actually approved!! Good luck

  3. Looking forward to meeting with my surgeon next Tuesday, will hopefully have a date afterwards. Meet with NUT for a final visit in Nov...come on Dec!

Haven't purchased anything except the Flinestone Vitamens (been taking those daily)...any thoughts on shakes?

Thanks all...we are almost there! YAY!

everyone has different views on the shakes. I was told to get samples of different ones so you know what you will like, but then again you taste buds change dramatically after surgery so what you like now could change. but you could get samples and just save them for after surgery. I think im gonna try to get Protein another way since we can puree stuff. get a magic bullet, I was told that comes in handy ALOT your first couple weeks after surgery!! good luck and see you on the losers bench ( that's a complement by the way) lol

  4. I am tentatively scheduled for December 18. So far I've had bloodwork done, clearance from the Nut, I've had 2 nutrition visits and have two more to go. Ive been to a support group meeting and have another one on tuesday. I have submitted my paperwork for my leave of absence at work. And my PCP wants me to get an EKG, final labwork, and chest X-ray closer to my surgery date for anesthesia. My last nutrition clearance is on December 5 and then we submit to insurance. Has anyone gotten final clearance from their insurance yet? How long did that process take for you?

I have final clearance. My surgeon submitted my paperwork to insurance on the 25th of last month and I found out the 3rdof this month. I kept calling and bugging my insurance every couple days. lol I found out before my surgeons office did..lol. I don't have any left to do, just see the nurse practitioner once more to discuss hospital things and then my last set of blood work for the anesthesiologist. Going for surgery on Dec 13...so happy! Starting a new year is gonna be wonderfull this time

  5. Finished all my pre-op appointments in June, met with the surgeon, scheduled surgery for July 31, then found out I had AFib. I spent the rest of July and August dealing with my heart instead of my belly. Now that is taken care of, so I have another couple of bariatric center appointments next week, and then another scheduled appointment with the surgeon. Planning/hoping for mid-December so I'll have 2 weeks off for recovery before I have to go back to work. Wish me luck! ( I need it!) :)

    Amy

I am having mine in Dec as well, come join the thread: December sleevers 2013. There isn't many people there yet but we can all discuss our dec stuff there and support each other!

  6. Alright December Sleevers, I'm hoping that this title brings more people in so we can follow and encourage each other through our journeys.

I am 40. I'm 5'4" and about 308 right now. I'd like to get to a healthy BMI which would be around 145. I'm hoping for a December 4th or 5th date with Dr. William Johnson.

    Everyone introduce yourselves!

wow, we need more peeps!! There has got to be more getting sleeved in Dec...come on people..lol I am 36 and have not always been heavy. I was thin my whole child hood through my mid 20's. I gained weight slowly thanks to depression and bad relationships. I slowly began to hate myself and the way I looked and felt helpless. I tried every diet imaginable and succeeded at some but always gained the weight back. I would gain more back at times too, becoming even heavier than I was before I dieted! Now that I am older it is harder to even lose 20lbs, and when I do lose I don't even drop a pant size which is upsetting and makes it hard to stick to a diet. I discovered weight loss surgery and prayed that I would qualify and after jumping through many hoops in the circus of doc appts and insurance I was finally approved and my surgery date is December 13!!! I simply can not wait! I am trying to stock up on things I will need before I go in so that when I get home life will be a little easier! Thanks and good luck to you all and I hope we get more Dec sleevers!!

I know there are 2 more recent threads with different December Sleevers on them. Lets join here to share our journeys!

  7. sugar free Jello and puddings. Bottled Water and some type of cup with a lid to keep track of how much your are drinking. Canned tuna and chicken to eat. Applesauce no sugar added, protien drinks that are ready to use at first. Mini food chopper or blender I have a Ninja. Comfy pjs, a robe, slippers, stretchy pants and tee shirts. Alcohol to remove sticky tape adhesive from your arm. 90+ lbs gone since surgery. :-)

Thank you so much for the info! And congrats on your weight loss!! when did you have surgery?

  8. Your surgeons office should be giving you a list of what you need and recommendations. Proteins should be made from " whey Protein isolate" . Also you will need as 'bariatric specific' Multivitamin, B 12 that you put under your tongue, Iron supplements for 3 months and calcium citrate 10000 mg per day plus Vitamin D about 1000 per day. chewable forms are the best, then capsules are second best. Google Bariatric supplements

Thank you! I will google that for sure! Ya, I figured the surgeons office will let me know but I don't go see them till mid November and I wanted to start buying things now while I have time and money. lol just getting ideas to make my first week or so at home more easy.

As far as Vitamins go. I used the chewables for only a few weeks and ended up with a full jar I never opened. I did not like the taste and moved to a regular bariatric Vitamin as soon as possible.

A few more of my favorites:

    - Chick Fil A sugar free Fresh Squeezed Lemonade

    - Chick Fil A Grilled chicken Nuggets

    - Seapoint Edamame snack Packs (Walmart)

    - Budget Sugar Free Popsicles (Walmart)

WOW, thank you for taking the time to post all that! it is very helpful!! I will def check out the websites.

  10. Thanks for the encouragement I guess we will see tomorrow they closed at 4 pm yesterday they said the coordinator had already left for the day I just called my insurance and they haven't even submitted it for approval to them yet and tomorrow will be a week since I finished all my pre-op

They didn't send mine off right away either. but it finally got to the insurance on the 25th and didn't find out I was approved for almost a week or so. I was getting worried. Im sure it will fall into place for you. It seems like everything takes an eternity when your just sitting and waiting..I know! Hang in there!

  11. I still dont have all my pre-op done. I go dr on the 16th of this month and I still have my egd and pre-op labs. But on the plus side already got ins approval! I think the wait is the hardest! Noe that I'm so close it can't come soon enough!

It will all happen. I have to go see the nurse practitioner on Nov 27 and then my last set of blood work and paper work for hospital the same day. then I am all set for surgery! Good luck!

  12. Congrats, they said someone would call me today but I haven't heard anything at all this drives me crazy not knowing what's going on.

Be persistent, I was calling and bugging my surgeons office at least twice a week and when I called today they had one more date open for surgery before Jan and I got it!! I know they are busy but like you said, they rush us and then they take their sweet ass time setting us up with a date. Good luck..call tomorrow! lol

  13. GOT MY SURGERY DATE TODAY!!! Dec 13TH yay, I don't have to switch surgeons I can get in before my deductible sets in again! Thank you all for your advice on what I should get before surgery, if you think of anything else feel free to post! I have never had major surgery before, had my gallbladder removed but I was only down for less than a day, I recovered quickly. I know I will be seeing the NUT again and I will be able to ask them questions but hearing advice from people who actually went through it and who know the ups and downs on what they got or should have got is more comforting to me! So again, thanks a lot!!!

  14. I would not invest in Protein shakes prior to surgery unless you have to have them for your pre-op diet. I couldn't tolerate them at all after surgery. You might get some samples to try after to see if there are any you can tolerate without making a huge investment.

I would go ahead and stock up on your essentials - at least for the first few days. Water, crystal light/mio, tea, Soups and stews, a Magic Bullet (the blender ...). You won't feel like going ANYWHERE - at least for a few days!!

I will def get a magic bullet, I didn't even think of that! lol thank you!

  15. I called my doctors office today they said they would have the scheduler call me tomorrow I feel like they rush you to get things done and then they take their time. I hope I don't have to wait until January I was hoping to be sleeved by November we have a vacation with friends planned for January wanted to be done recovering so that I could enjoy myself with my husband and friends.

Im sure you wont have to wait till January, I do because I happen to pick the busiest surgeon around ( not knowing) and therefore, I am begging to be squeezed in! Good luck and hope you get in soon and enjoy your vacation in January too!!! And youre right, they rush you and give you deadlines to finish everything and then once you are done they procrastinate. Its frustrating actually!!

  16. Not sure about the foods either I'm watching ur posts and responses too! As far as Vitamins I already started the sublingual B12, flintstone vitamins(they can't be gummies), and chewable cal+d.

Ya I almost picked up gas x today, I saw someone say they took some to the hospital and were glad they did. I wanna make sure sure I get the right kind ( strength wise) don't wanna overwhelm anything. I am def gonna get some vitamins and I guess order some Protein Shakes. I figured Ill also pick up some sugar free Jello and tuna and cream Soups like some are talking about. I guess Ill be good to go then. I am hoping I can return to college after about a week.

  17. There is a thread for this under forums/pre operation it's right at the top it says "The Official what will you will need for your gastric surgery list".. Hope it helps you.

I found it, it pretty much talks about stuff to take to the hospital. I was mainly wondering what to buy for when I get home. Since I prob wont be getting out right away. Things maybe some people wish they would have got or did get and are glad they did. food, shakes, Vitamins and what kind. that sort of stuff.
