Was Your Staple Line Also Sutured?

No spider is a technology to only make one incision on you instead of 5. Spider method for surgery has a higher leak rate because they cant see the top of the stomach as well where they put the last staples in because of the angle. My surgeon is trained in spider and typical laparoscopic.Hence, the typical 5 hole laproscopic gives them better viewing of everything. The steps i mentioned my surgeon used are what he does to make sure there's no leak issues. I was happy to hear the extra ways he closes the stomach.

Was Your Staple Line Also Sutured?

Mine was stapled,, sewn, meshed w/ medical mesh dissolvable "fabric", and then sprayed with surgical glue!

Down 110 At 5Months Post Op!

Thats amazing!! Congratulations!! Did you have a work out routine? I can only cross my fingers and try my best to have your success in 5 months! Any tips how you got there are appreciated!
  6. So I'm very happy my family is supportive of my decision to get surgery. However, they asked me to make a list of things I might need help with after surgery, or things for them to look out for, or if there are things to make sure I'm doing post-op and put it on the fridge in order to better help me. Obviously walking and sipping will be on the list. However, I feel like I might be oversighting important things. Has anyone else made a list for their family or care taker that they can speak to? Any helps would be appreciated!! Thanks!

Time Of The Month During Your Surgery?

Oh joy! I found other victims of getting my period the day before surgery! Now I'm more worried about wearing a stupid surgical panty with pad in it than a stinkin' leak! I hope they let me get away with a tamp. Pads are just too diaper like and reminiscent of 5th grade. Also I get horrible cramps, and I can't take the usual Ibprofen because it's an NSAID. Any advise what to take at least the first day till they knock me out with anesthesia?

A Date That Will Live In Memory

Congratulations on getting your date and your new journey ahead! I am getting my surgery the same day as you-July 16th. I'm not nervous as of right now either but I'm sure we will feel all the emotions leading up to the day, which I think is totally normal. I'm no help for most of your questions, but I do love your idea of having a little talisman!

    H Pylori

Thanks everyone for the input. I'll def get a hold of them and request the test to be done and take it from there.

    H Pylori

Nopee :/ she just said blood work for certain tests such as CBC, lipids ( etc, all sounded typical) and an EKG (electrocardiogram). When I asked specifically about if he will check for H pylori bacteria she said he usually doesn't which seems odd because sounds like everyone else has been tested for that preop! Who knows though, hardly anyone does their jobs correctly anymore maybe I am getting it done and she just doesn't know it is a part of it. Don't know if it's worth demanding it or not.

    H Pylori

So my surgery is July 16th, pre op appointments july 9th, and my coordinator listed all the tests being run for my blood work and then mentioned an EKG as my preop. I asked if he is testing for H. Pylori and she said he usually doesn't. Am I the only one not getting tested for it? Hmm.... I'm confused

    Where Is My Period Ladies?

Ohh i knew if i searched for period and surgery i'd find something! Well aunt flo is visiting me a day before my surgery date not sure if thats good or bad. I get reallly bad cramps and vsg patients shouldnt take NSAIDS around the surgery date (so no more of my usual ib profen), so i need to figure out what else i can take? Also i read they make u wear surgical panties that have a pad in it, is this true?? Anyone get away with wearing tampons? I hate pads, so diaper like! I feel like i'd living my fifth grade years all over again. If i have to do it I can live with that just having my fingers crossed to not have to

    :(

Im so sorry, I hope you find comfort somehow in this shocking news and pull yourself through it. I'm 25 as well and we have so much ahead of us in life, please fight! I'm with everyone else that seeking WLS was a blessing in disguise. Stay strong and please even though you aren't getting VSG right away, keep us posted how you are doing. I have read on occasion here that VSG was used before to remove stomach cancer, not sure if this is what is needed or suggested by your doctors for you. Knowledge is power educate yourself about all the options you have for your treatment, it will hopefully make you less scared knowing more about it. Chin up and start fighting!
