  1. I guess today is going to be my vent out day. I had one of the worst food days since surgery. Bfast started out with 1/2 a slice of mozarella on 8 grain toast, i had no snack and the. lunch was about 8 forkfulls of spaghetti carbonara, i had people over for tea and had a jaffa cake and then dinner i had a piece of chicken and some salad and just now before bed i had a frozen tetra pack of ribena..... Feeling very angry with myself.

  2. I hit the 5 week mark on friday. My diet guidelines were Clear Liquids for 2 weeks and then soft foods for the next 2 weeks and then regular food but my doc asked me to stay away from very chewy meats. I'll give you an example of what my daily food intake is. I don't really count calories i just make sure im satisfied.

7.00 am - Protein shake with skim milk

8.30 am - scrambled egg white with a slice of toast. ( takes me awhile to eat but i chew slowly, initially i could only have half a slice but i can manage 1 slice)

Snack- handful of strawberries and blueberries

Lunch- small piece of fish about 1/4 of a fillet and 3 tablespoons salad

Snack- babybel cheese or deli turkey or ham (1 slice)

Dinner- lentils 1/4 cup or grilled chicken with a tablespoon or 2 of veg.

    Hope that helps.

  3. On the day after surgery and for 2 days after i went into momentary depression thinking what have i done and will it actually help. I got over all that a week later and i'm now heading into my 5 th week post op and i couldnt be happier. Im down 9 kilos and loving the change. I've been lazy with walking ad i've been moving house so i guess i havent lost as much weight as some and also i was on pre op Protein diet for less than a week but if you follow the food guidelines and save treats for occassions ypu'll definitely see results. Let us know how you get on.

  4. I had a bit of pain immediately post op under my left breast bone. Thats when they realigned my liver but that was calmed with pain meds and as of day 2 i was in no real pain just a bit sore. I took my pain meds for 3 days. The 3rd day was just a precaution.

  5. Heya, i'm 4 weeks post op today and i think i did alright wih liquids from the word go. I usually keep a bottle of Water with me all the time and i literally keep sipping on it throughout the day and refilling it. Initially i was doing tiny sips but then i realised i could take pretty decent sized sips and then i also add in coconut water or sugarfree juice when i get bored and need a change of taste. Sometimes when im eating i might need just a sip of water but try to follow the no water rule 30 mins before and after a meal as your stomach will fill up too fast then and you won't get enough calories or Proteins in.

    Good luck

  6. My doctor is all the way in india and i live in kenya so all my follow up is basically done via email and even then they are not so great with responding to my mails so i rely a lot on the forum. I think i'm going to wait till the 2 month mark before i start weight training. Thanks a lot for all the help guys i really appreciate it.

  7. You won't have to live on just sips all your life. In my experience im almost 4 weeks out and i can finally quench my thirst by taking down more than just a few sips at a time.

Keep a bottle of Water with u and every few mins keep taking a few sips. It'll quench your thirst and if you keep at it you'll no doubt get your water quota for sure.

  8. Hey everyone, so i'm hitting week 4 this friday and i really feel that i need to start weight training to accelerate my weightloss. How long was it before you could start weight training?

I started my weightloss journey at 101 kilos and am now at 92 kilos and am having a bit of a stall. Any advice out there from anyone to rev up weightloss?

  9. Wow ur doing great. Im going to try getting in more Protein Shakes as i dont think im getting enough Protein at the moment. I just downloaded my fitness pal so i'm going to start using that from tomorrow.

I think the stitch the doctor put internally is whats causing some discomfort. I feel it especially when i sleep on one side. I wonder if anyone else is having the same issue.

    Keep up the good work.

  10. So i finally got the app working on my phone again. Im almost hitting week 3 post op and i feel great. Im down 8 kilos and a dress size. Everyones commenting on how im trimming down and i have tonnes of energy.

Sometimes i cant make my watet quota but most days i do. Im not sure if im getting enough Protein how does everyone measure protein intake? Also my right stitch is still sore is anyone else expetiencing this?

  11. Coconut Water is a healthy drink from young green coconuts before they mature. It is quite popular in the tropical region such as the Caribbean and Southeast Asia. It is different from coconut milk which is made from the white flesh of the coconut. Coconut Water tastes great and has several health benefits. Some health benefits of coconut water are listed below:

    Antimicrobial Benefit

Coconut water is anti-viral, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial. A 2008 research study showed that coconut water contains peptides or small Proteins that can kill bacteria. So if you want to fight infection, coconut water can help. It can also help relieve stomach upsets. It also protects against the bacteria H. pylori that cause ulcer by infecting the stomach lining.

    Hydration for Athletes

You may think that you can hydrate yourself with water or sports drink. However, coconut water contains several antioxidants and essential minerals such as potassium, magnesium and Calcium. If you drink this fresh from the young coconut, you will also avoid extra sugar added in sports drink or soda. It is better to drink fresh coconut water instead of drinking from a can. Usually processed coconut water is pasteurized, and it contains added sugar and preservatives.

    Healthy Heart

If you are suffering from hypertension, potassium from this drink will help lower your blood pressure. It also contains several electrolytic minerals that can be easily absorbed by the body. It does not contain any fat or cholesterol.

    Elimination of Kidney Stones

Natural health practitioners believe that coconut water helps dissolve kidney stones. Potassium plays a key role in alkalizing urine and prevents kidney stones from forming.

    Stress Relief

Drinking coconut water lowers your stress because it contains several minerals and small amounts of B-Vitamins such as thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid, B-6 and folate. Research shows that several B-vitamins play a crucial role in lowering anxiety, depression and stress.

    Hangover Relief

If you like to have fun drinking at a party but do not like hang-overs, some people claim that this also effectively relieves hang-overs. Since it is a Fluid with the same five electrolytes found in human blood, it helps cure hang-over by hydrating your body.

    Weight Loss

Coconut water is nutritious with only 50 calories per cup and it also has a low glycemic load. Since it is a natural isotonic beverage, it helps increase your metabolism. It also helps to detoxify your body, which helps you lose weight. Some people have a hard time losing weight because of the toxicity in the body.

Now skeptics may argue that the benefits of coconut water have been over-hyped. It is true that you can get some of these benefits from other fruits and vegetables. So it is always a good idea to get your nutrients from a variety of sources including coconut water.

Some experts explain that coconut water is not recommended for athletes engaged in intensive training because of low amount of sodium, Protein and carbohydrates. Again, this is under the assumption that athletes drink nothing but coconut water before and after training. The key is to eat a balanced diet in addition to this beverage. Most people get plenty of sodium, carbs and Protein in their diet already. So the majority of the population is less likely to be deficient in sodium, carbs or protein.

Drinking fresh coconut water from raw young coconut is far superior to drinking bottled coconut water filled with sugar and preservatives. If you are on a budget, you can buy your own young coconut from an Asian grocery store.

Next time if you have a choice between sugary soda or natural coconut water, hopefully this article convinces you to choose the latter. While it is great to be aware of the benefits of this exotic fruit beverage, it is also a good idea to drink this in moderation and not abandon several other healthy foods.

  12. Its not actually a brand. In kenya and india you get them in abundance from street vendors. In the states i'm pretty sure you'll get in the grocery section of the supermarket where they sell fruit and veg. I'll check out the sugar, Protein etc stats and post them up but my doctor advised me to drink it as soon as i was taking in liquids by mouth. If you buy an already bottled one then make sure its sugarfree.

  13. Heya peeps,

Just thought i'd share a little something woth everyone. I'm on the clear liquid stage as i am 5 days post surgery now and i've read and seen that some people are feeling a little low on energy. I find that fresh coconut Water really gives me a boost. It's so refreshing and tastes great after being stuck with clear Soup.

Hope you all have a great day. Another day towards a new you. Loving it. Xoxo
