I think the best advice is.... there could be bumps.. no there will be bumps in the road in the beginning. The first 3-4 months post-op tend to be the hardest as you go through, healing, and then learning about the new you. One of the best things I did, was follwed the advice of a book I read written by a bypass patient. She said to write two letters to yourself. One for the days/week right after surgery that moment when "buyer's remorse" kicks in. It should remind you why you did this surgery, how you feel at your current weight, what inspires you to lose weight, etc. Then the second is for yourself 6 months from now, when you might start giving up, or letting old habits creep in. Remind yourself of your struggles, and to stay on course for the long haul. Be honest with yourself. No one has to see or know these letters exsist, or you can do what I did. Gave them to my boyfreind in sealed envelopes. I told him if I got to a low place, and needed it, to give me my letters. Its amazing what pure honesty with yourself reminds you.

I have an older model iPod as well. I tend to carry my iPhone for music (and safety) though, which does have bluetooth funcionality. Thanks, I'll drag my fiancee into Best Buy next time we're out and about. I'm sure he'll mind tons...
Thanks for a great thread! I'm just getting into walking, and hopefully, eventually running. I'm at the start of training for a 5K mud run and I'm really excited!

I like Muse Resistance CD when I run. I also put together a list of running songs from men's fitness. It was supposed to be top picks for 2012. However, I still like running to muse better.

I'm assuming it's your pre-surgery diet. Keep in mind that the purpose behind it is to make your surgery easier - both for the surgeon, and for YOU! When you feel hungry, drink some Water instead. It can help you feel more satisfied.

MoreganK reacted to clk in When did your toughest weight loss plateau occur?
I had real plateaus - nine weeks apiece - at roughly six months and one year post op. Both times they occurred when I hit a previous "happy weight" that my body had trouble moving past.
And of course, the last twenty pounds were brutal but I hesitate to call those periods "stalls" or "plateaus" because I did lose weight...just at the poky pace of less than a pound a week.
My honest opinion is that many people get frustrated by "stalls" or "plateaus" that don't really fit that description. Daily weighing immediately post op and in those initial months leads to many people feeling terribly frustrated with a short adjustment period (often less than even two weeks) where the scale just isn't moving. Weigh weekly or monthly and a lot of that can be avoided, and save the daily weighing for maintenance, when it's necessary to stay accountable.

Yes, but that is probably part of what helped you get into bad shape. It's hard work to change habits to support a new life.

I don't have a scale... mine stopped working. So, I can't tell whats actually happening. People keep commenting that I look thinner, but I can't tell. Usually though, when those comments started happening in the first months, I'd drop a size a couple weeks later. I hope thats true again! I've started feeling pretty low that I feel stuck. I've been stuck for a couple months. I have 40-ish pounds to go and I don't feel like its moving! I need a reboot!

I got stuck at 10-11 months out, but it was my fault because I stopped exercising and logging my food. I'm back on myfitnesspal and started a jogging training program and the lbs are slowly starting to come off again.

I've been stalled on the scale for a month! I've lost a pant size though and I've never been this size in my adult life. So, the number on the scale can kiss my behind! I am so thrilled with my success so far!

I always liked seeing photos pre op...hell I still like to see them now. So here you go!
I just under 9 months out and down 172 lbs (about 20ish pre op). I follow the 600 -800 calories/+60 protein/+64 oz fluid/-40 carbs. I haven't really exercised and maybe walk a couple of miles a week. I am overall more active and I do plan on starting regular exercise soon. I have had off plan days but I can count the number of "cheats" on both hands. I wanted to get to a normal bmi quickly and this is what has worked for me. I am a few pounds away from "normal" and want to lose about another 20. Enjoy!

MoreganK reacted to AmberDawn in is anybody out there suffering from pcos?
I was told by my Gyno before surgery that there was a very good chance I have PCOS( trouble losing weight, unwanted hair, really messed up long cycles and he did spot some cysts on my ovaries).
After the surgery within a few months my cycles became completely normal, 28 days like clock work. I still have some lingering signs of PCOS but I think it's improved greatly since I've lost the weight. I also just found out I'm 7 weeks pregnant. So there is that
I think it does take time for our bodies to realize the weight is gone and for the PCOS to start letting up, but it will happen, just hang in there.

Since I now have my tentative date, I decided it's time I start doing some preparing for the pre-op diet after the surgery. I know it's a good idea to find out which Protein shakes/powders I like BEFORE I have to use them. That way I won't be trying different kinds at the last minute. A friend of mine is having her surgery in March and told me that she tried some of powders? utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury powders. I went on their website and ordered their sampler. It came the day after I ordered it! It includes two packets of each of their flavors, a plastic container and a thermometer to measure the temperature of the Water (can't heat it higher than 140 degrees or the power clumps). So far I've only tried one. The chicken Soup flavor. Now, it's certainly not my mom's homemade chicken soup, but it was pretty ok. There was no grainy taste or clumps (after I stirred it for awhile). It has 21 grams of protein, I believe. The package gets disolved in 8 oz. of water. Since I know I'll have trouble getting down a lot of liquids after surgery, I'm excited that this is only 8 oz.
I'll let everybody know what the other ones taste like as soon as I've tried them.

mrsflyboybs hi there - so you want to get "knocked up"?? haven't heard that expression since i went to high school with the dinasours!!
there is a board for "preggos", people wanting to get pregnant - and people that are already pregnant
all docs say different things - some people on our board get pregnant without meaning to
"some" docs say you should wait up to 2 years post up before you get pregnant
check with your doc concerning high risk et al - might vary for each person, but i "think" for the most part people get pregnant and are not considered high risk
but you will find the more specific answer from someone in the better "know"
    gotta comment on your "disclaimer"
its sad, but i understand why you wrote it (the disclaimer)
other people are writing similar things "disclaimers" because they understanably don't want/need to hear any harsh comments
people have left the board because instead of getting support, they got some harsh reality from "well meaning sleevers
I think more and more people have become aware of and successfully are "curbing" their comments
now giving support, with well thought out words of wisdom and help, advice, support -
this is what we've all wanted, and needed from this board
    wish you well
big congrats on loosing 115 lbs
    WooHoo
wishing you well on bringing a new angel into the world

Well I didn't quite get to my goal, about 47lbs short and now I've discovered I have a bun in the oven.
I have/had PCOS and my husband had motility issues so we thought it would never happen. Well we got the surprise of a lifetime. Now I'm wondering if Protein shakes(casein and isopure) are ok during pregnancy. They're a staple in my diet, i have a shake every morning for Breakfast.
Has anyone heard from their Dr about Protein shakes being okay during pregnancy?
I go see my Dr Wednesday but wanted to see what the concensus is.

While your in the hospital is when your worst pain will be. Everyday that goes by it gets way better. The most important thing to do is walk as soon as you can. And when you get to drink make sure to sip sip sip sip and sip some more. I would say in all from worst pain to no pain at all was about a week.
